How many square feet in an 80 lb bag of cement?
Comments (13)If you don't mind sweating a little, you can usually buy a nice playground mix of sand, and a sac of portland, and mix your own in a 5 gallon bucket using an electric drill and mortar bit. Measure how much sand it takes to fill your molds. Use a 1part cement to 2 parts or even 3 parts sand and add water (Will vary greatly on each batch) I make my own pavers and only do 6 at a time, but only mix enough cement for 3 at a time. They are about 15"x15"x21/2" and each one weights approx. 20lbs. I have a few that are 4" thick by 30" and they weigh 120lbs. Not fun to move at all. At 21/2 " and a high portland ratio, a car can drive on them once they are cured. I like making my own mix because I have control of the consistancy, I started out using a pre-mix, and it varies with brands, what size aggregate. Most importantly, you need to use the entire bag each time, as the portland may settle in the bag unevenly. I purchased the sand from a local retail by the yard at about $10 a yard. Portland is cheap also, so my pavers are costing about $1.00 including the cost of the molds($500.00) another thing to remember is that you can always add more water, but not more cement to your mix. MIght also want to think about a release agent for your forms, if you plan on reusing them again....See MoreFiguring out square footage?
Comments (4)How did you get 104 ft? Your two side walls are 3' by 7.5', or 22-1/2sqft each, or 45sqft for the two. Your rear wall (rounded up) is 5' by 7.5', or 37-1/2sqft. Add the three together and as has been mentioned, you have 82-1/2sqft. To nitpick by using the 58" dimension, your rear wall is actually 36-1/4 sqft. So your real total is 81-1/4 sqft. You can do this with minimal waste due to the size of your tile and the dimensions of your shower. For simplicity's sake, let's assume you want a horizontal stacked pattern. Your side walls are 36" long by 90" tall. With your 19.75" by 10" tiles being set horizontally, your side walls will be two tiles wide by 9 tiles tall, for a total of 18 tiles per side wall. Your back wall is 58" wide by 90" tall. Roughly 3 tiles wide by 9 tiles tall. 18 + 18 + 27 = 63 tiles, or 86.4 square feet of tile to cover a little over 80 sqft of wall. Not bad. When done, you'll have about 5 sqft, or roughly 4 tiles worth of offcuts. A little over 6% of waste. If you go with a running bond, use your offcuts to wrap through the corners and you can be just as efficient....See MoreHow many square feet is your kitchen?
Comments (41)This is an ancient thread. (Hello from 2017!!) I wanted to briefly chime in for anyone perusing this thread for information regarding an older home that has like victoriajane and another poster which has lots of entryways and confusing layouts for walls. I have chosen for my guesthouse to have what is called an 'unfitted kitchen' It is well used in England. It's more like armoires and dressers look. Take a gander on the internet. Bing.com seems to have better photo selections for this than Google, FYI. I wish everyone the very best on their journey to a happy and productive kitchen and home....See MoreHouse of 870 square feet for $350K
Comments (16)My son and daugher-in-law just bought a house. It's surprising how the market is heating up, at least at the low end. Of course prices are way way below the peak. The house they bought sold for twice as much before the housing crash. But it still feels like things are set for the roller coaster to go up again. There were multiple offers for several houses they tried to get and they got out bid by investors. The house they bought was on a program called HomePath where for the first week or so the house is only open to offers from people who will live in the house for a couple of years. They were lucky to get a 1300 square foot house in decent condition for around $150K. Most of the others in that price range were 900-1000 square feet and or disasters needing heaps of work. Is the larger "closet" of the three things that look like closets in the top bedroom a bath? Is there a bath on the main floor? And what's behind those two really skinny doors on by the railing in the den/bedroom? It looks like the front one might be a heater or hvac unit because it has vents but it seems like the back one would be hard to get too with that skinny path and door and it looks so shallow....See Moresue36
