Something about it looks old to me (i.e. "vintage"), but I can't make out enough details on my monitor to say too much more. The tub looks sleekly 1940s-ish to me, and the soap thing doesn't look current at all. Come to think of it, the tub reminds me of old diners. I wish I could enlarge the image to see more.

The soap holder and curve of tub do look like 30s to 40s but the tile and bath material itself seem newer to me. The tub does not look like porcelain to me. I am going to guess and older home with a 1960s bath remodel to fit the 1930s home?

I have no idea! Guess IâÂÂll take a guess on it being fairly new because in some ways that tub looks like a soaking tub of today. Perhaps the other items like soap holder are reproductions or were there already or were a good vintage find. I think the tiles are also newly installed.

The ceramic soap dishes, toilet paper holder and ceramic towel bar ends are still available in 30 odd colors from at least one manufacturer. People aren't using them a whole lot for new baths.

I will post the whole picture later, but technically I suppose it *could be brand new like jterrilynn says. I have my own guess from the picture and the house itself, but it could new--you would just have to know where to find the materials sources.

My MIL had an almost identical bathroom, ca. 1970.

I have the original brown tiles in my hall bathroom in my 1950's split.

At first I thought "wow, that's my brothers' bathroom from 1971", but looking at the soap dish and how it's installed, I'm thinking later. Also, the tub sides look skinny, which is a more modern style. But 1971 isn't back in fashion...yet...is it?...so I just don't know.

Well I canâÂÂt wait to see the answerâ¦guess I was maybe wrong. One of the things I used as a clue though is that there does not seem to be old track marks on the tub where the ole stainless framed glass or plexi glass shower/tub doors were. Those were popular during a certain time frame. Same holds true with the gold framed shower/tub doors.
However, with closer inspection it looks like the tub might have a curved portion on the left which might mean this is not a shower tub combo (or maybe not) and there is a separate shower stall? I still have no idea but will stick with it being fairly new or 1950 something.

What I think is we've finally identified the timeless look so many of us are trying to achieve. :)

Is that an art deco motif on the tub?

The final answer is that I don't know for sure. But lets look at the house.

The house is a (pretty spectacular) Norman revival, designed by Mellor, Meigs & Howe, 1931.

The bath seems to occupy the far left corner in the half-timbered brick portion.

This picture shows the interconnected bedrooms and another bath to the right.

The space occupied by the bath seems a lot like it could have been a sleeping porch, but by 1931 I am not sure they were doing sleeping porches.

The other bathrooms are mostly original with new faucets as needed, one has an obviously modern, brilliant white vanity, while the rest seems fairly intact. The toilets all seem new.

So here is the bathroom. My vote is "original to the house" because of the standing waste assembly on the bathtub. The tub is deco and its associated plumbing looks original and given the other bathrooms in the house it doesn't seem salvaged from one of them. Kohler offered a porcelain color called "Old Ivory" at this time, so other manufacturers at the time probably had their version. This may have been the husband's bathroom.

Well, the tub and the soap holder look older to me. In combination with the tile, I'd guess early 1970s. I agree it could be done now, but I think the soap holder in particular suggests either older or deliberately "vintage."

The tub is a different color than the sink and toilet. "Crane" made tubs in what looks like exactly the same style in the 1940's and 1950's and in that color. There may have been eariler same models but I haven't found any in my search.

I should have written it down but if that tile is a clay tile there was an Italian modern 1950âÂÂs bathroom designer doing modern bathrooms in what looks to be an exact match to that tile.
Maybe the bathroom has sort of evolved over many years. Perhaps it was not put in until several years after house was completed?

I'm curious about the location of the mirror. Would this bath have a separate area for shaving, storing a strop, etc? My Grandfather stored his strop on a hook near the mirror over the sink.

I don't have any question about the tub being from 1931--standing wastes were not available much after that, and the filler is down inside the rim of the tub. The toilet looks within the last ten years, as does the faucet set on the sink, but these things often need replacing. I say 1931 with replacements.

I just don't know about the tile around the tub. Brown would have been unusual but not impossible, I guess, and I've been in some bathrooms of this period that have wood floors, where the originality of everything is without question.

Well that was a fun game but now I want every little factual detail. IâÂÂm feeling unsatisfied.

It's nice, I like the materials and colors. I haven't seen such a spacious bathroom of that age, with so many windows - it's unusual, but nice.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a new bathroom seeing that the items are still available. It looks like a man's bathroom to me. Now someone has to go to the door and ask them lol.

Half-alcove tubs are not available. If you know where they are sold _please_ let me know.

Lefroy Brooks makes one that looks almost like this in acrylic. It is called Belle Aire.
