LOVE 'EM! We went to the Crawfish Festival last weekend in Spring, TX. Skipped the music part & pigged out on crawfish. And I noticed one of our local Cajun restaraunts is having boiled crawfish for $2.95/lb. (I think we'll go Monday!) Enjoy your boil!

Since I live so near Drewsmaga, I bet we have been having crawfish at the same place in Spring! Love 'em and the crawfish balls, too! I so enjoy this time of year when we can eat outside without the skeeters.

Oh Glenda, Can't say as I do. I have a friend that gags when I eat(slurp) raw oysters, and when I hear her sucking those heads off those crawdads, omg.. well, we both just LOL at each other. Just enjoy Glenda. To each their own!! Some people call them crawfish and some people call them crawdads. Same thing, though.

I'm sorry I just can not eat things like that. I grew up along White River and saw "crawdads" all the time, such dirty things! I am not too picky about my food but creepy things with legs or oysters I do not eat. :)

We used to go when it was still Bean's Crawfish Boil. There was always at least one blues music stage set up then. Now that it's a promotion company "to do", most of the music stages are primarily hard metal music and that's not for us.

Glenda, if you like good crawfish, the Crazy Cajun in Inverness can't be beat. They also have the best fried Gulf shrimp and gumbo that we've found around here.

They are on my top 3 things of food I love.....

Marilyn Sue, where did you grow up, if you don't mind me asking? I'm a White River girl, too, I just moved on up a little further on the riverbank! LOL

Can't "do" crawfish - wish I could. I'm a shrimp, crab and lobster girl, though. Guess my kind of eating needs salt to swim around in! LOL

friend brought the makings all the way from new orleans...but it was just too spicey for me...

Local news which is sponsoring this boil, interviewed the man from Louisiana who always brings the crawfish and prepares them as well.

He brings them in a big semi, 25,000 pounds, for the two nite event.

Food Network did a segment on crawfish, the other nite, and it's a 12 hour cleansing process before they can be cooked.

I grew up in Western New York. Found them in ponds, we call them "crayfish" only nobody up north knows you can eat them. I had crawfish in New Orleans with remoulade sauce-delicious!

When I was 4 years old my family and I moved to the family land after they built a little house right on the banks of the White River, just a couple of miles north east of Strawtown, Indiana. It is now called Newton Ave. after my family. I lived there until I was married at 18. Our family still owns the land. I just stopped by there today and checked my Mother's house. We are getting ready to remodel there in a couple of weeks and then it will be ready to rent out. Mother is in a nursing home.

I could go for some of the bread pudding, particulary if it was doused with Bourbon sauce. (That's the only way I can tolerate Bourbon but oh yeah...that sauce is good.)

Sue, where I grew up, we had a creek that flowed by our house. During summer break, I used to walk down that creek and dig crawfish out from the banks of the creek. Then and now, those type crawfish are used primarily for fish bait. The crawfish that we eat around here are "farm raised".

We have a little creek that runs through our property where we live now and of course there are "crawdads" in it and some fish, snakes, frogs and turtles. Growing up we ate frogs legs and fried turtle and fish out of White River, but that was many, many years ago. Des Arc Ya Ya, what state was your White River in? Or where in Indiana?

clubm, Crawfish have the fiber taste of Shrimp but a more "fishy" taste. Still good though. I actually enjoy them as much as shrimp. But, I don't suck the heads.

Crawfish balls? Does that refer to a formal dance or to a tiny part of the crawfish anatomy?

Never been to a "boil" but have eaten them many times. I only eat the tail, though. I love getting them at our favorite Chinese place in Louisvile especially when the kids bring a friend. They are really grossed out when I have some on my plate-LOL!

Most of the ones I've eaten were caught by family and me.

Andy & Amber went to the Crawfish Boil Friday. Now he's wondering where he can find some to COOK! He probably doesn't know about the 12hr. cleaning process! lol

Just smelling the spice gives me a headache. We still end up going to a crawfish boil every year. Dh loves it. I fill up on carbs and keep my nose covered.

Brenda, Andy can also get live crawfish at Sexton's in Cahaba Heights. (It's just a bit behind the Summit.) I usually call on Tuesday and place an order so they'll hold them for us when they're delivered. They're really not that difficult or time consuming to cleanse for cooking. It's a matter of purging them in a salt water bath several times before cooking them. It takes us about 2 hours to prep for 40 lbs.
