White for me too...my mom has been gone for eight years this October. I miss her...I will light a special candle for her tomorrow.

White for me....my mom died in 1969......39 years ago on April 30th. I really miss her and am sorry she didn't get to know my children.

White here also. My Mom died in January of 1990. 18 years ago. She died after her 51st birthday and didn't see my children grow up or graduate or have children of their own. I miss you Mom!

My rose is red; and I thank God for this.

In my family we always wore peonies, white or dark pink, from Grandma's garden for Mother's Day.

White for me. Mom passed away in 1993 of a broken heart age 66. I miss her and dad everyday!!!!!!!!!!

White for me. My mother died when I was 12. She was the hub of our family. Ahhh, peonies, she grew them in the back yard. How I miss them here in warm southern California.

White for me, too. Mama died on July 30, 1970, at the age of 53 - a couple of weeks shy of her 54th birthday.

White for hubs, too. His mother died on September 5, 1969, at the age of 45.

Ah Glenda I was waiting for you to ask this question, you ask it ever year and it makes me sad. White for me, Mom died in 1989 when I was only 24 (she was only 58).

Red for me... and I'm sooooooo very, very, thankful! My Mom has put up with sooooo much crap b/c of me! ...and she still loves me! (well, at least she says she does.. lol)

Red for me...., going to pick up my darling and bring her here today! But I gotta confess, I am clueless to the red or white rose tradition....I have it figured out, but never heard of it before....am I a dummy or what???

Gosh, I just got off the phone with my mom and asked her if she remembered all the ladies wearing red or white corsages at church when I was younger. We discussed how seldom we see the tradition anymore.

So my surprise to browse through this forum and see the topic!

Hugs to all of you who have your moms still, but not in the physical presence--mothers live on in who we are and in our hearts.

I am fortunate to still have my mother this mother's day; she came to stay with us for an early celebration, which is something she hasn't done much through the years because she was taking care of my dad, who died last September.

White for me also. While getting ready to drive the 100 miles to visit my Mom on Mothers Day 2002 I got the phone call telling me that my 92 year old Mom was in emergency surgery. She never recovered enough to acknowledge us, but I know she knew her children were there. She passed on May 26th, 2002

Red for me, white for my husband. My mother-in-law was an unforgettable character, and I'm not alone in missing her.

We'll be taking my mom & dad out to dinner tonight. Happy they are still around to have fun with.

White. I lost my sweet mom last July; this is a tough first Mother's Day without her.

Red for my mom. Wednesday we'll be celebrating her 90th birthday. I'm so happy I have another "red" year with her.

Red for both DH and me. My Mom turned 90 this year and DH's turn 80. We are lucky and so was our son to have grandmothers so long. I didn't when growing up.

White for me - my mother died almost 11 years this summer and I think of her every day. My younger sister died less than 3 months ago leaving a daughter 29 and a son 26 - I feel so badly for those kids - the first Mother's day is the hardest.

Red for me, just got back from the nursing home. We had a nice visit even though she doesn't know who I am. I fed her and talked to her and sang softly to her. She was having one of her really mixed up days and she always loved to have her hair stroked and sang to, it kind of calmed her down some. She was 91 this past March.

White roses for me, my Mom passed away September 23, 2000 (just 14 days shy of her 61 birthday).

White for me. My mother died at 42 two years after having me. February 1956. Dad and I always took lilacs to the cemetery on Mother's day.
I was in Walgreens on Friday, there were lots of people picking out cards. I had to look to see what the holiday was. I've never purchased a Mother's Day card nor received one.

White for me. My Mother has been gone 13 years. She had Alzheimer's so long that I have to really think back to remember her before she got sick.

Gee, I'm 50 years old and never heard of this tradition! I had my mom here for breakfast/brunch today and would have cut her a vase of red roses had I known!

We always went to the garden and cut a rose to wear to church, red or white, on Mother's Day!

I've never heard of this either.

But red, for me. I just got home from visiting my mom, who will be 89 in two weeks.

White for me ... mom died in '42, aged 39, after a few years in psych. hosp. following birth of her third son.

I remember scarcely anything of my relationship with her.

I was pretty well entirely away from home when Dad remarried in '48 (and we got a pretty younger sister) and step-mom died in '84 ... I don't think that I ever realized earlier that her calendar year was double Mom's. Also, her death year a reversal of the year that she came West.

I spoke in some detail of my connection (or, rather of necessity, lack of it) with Mom, a couple of days ago on another thread.

For those of you fortunate enough to still have your Moms, rejoice in the good relationship that you have ... and in the ways that it has been less than good, make a sincere effort to resolve some of the issues, please. In almost all cases, you'll (almost certainly) be glad that you did. And if she passes from this life before you make such a substantial effort ... you'll regret it for the rest of your life, I'll bet.

For those who have lost your original Mom, find another, a sustitute, with special concern to find one who's never had a child, or whose child(ren) is/are gone. Such would well offer an opportunity for a mutually rewarding relationship, in most cases ... and if one doesn't work well, don't be discouraged, persist: quite likely another will.

Good wishes to all of you fine Moms for the weeks/years ahead.

I'd love to find a substitute mom. I know there are many lonely older women out there and I miss my mom a whole lot. I wish I knew how to find another "mom" as I'm sure such an arrangement would be a blessing for both sides!
