Goodbye Irene - quilt Pic :~)

I got power back on last night!!! 36K still w/out power this morning who are serviced by the same power company. Power company insists they are 'storm ready' ummmmm????

On the afternoon of Day 5, I realized I could try out the Jelly Roll 1600 Race - it required no iron (I am a dedicated presser)and I could use my Featherweight plugged into the gas portable generator without risking harm to the FW.

I used Hoffman Bali Pops Mocha Mint. It is straight off the FW - no pressing - no trimming. I will name it "Goodbye Irene" - the power came on while I was almost finished-I didn't even realize it - I was chugging away by the little light on the machine, and a neighbor knocked on the door to tell me to turn off my generator! :)

This is the first I have sewn on the FW. What a cool little machine.

Great job! I love your story and could just imagine you having such a good time sewing on your FW that you didn't even notice the power was back on. Glad to hear that.

I have a FW I got in late October (and named BellaRuby)that I've yet to use. You've inspired me to pull her out, reintroduce myself and use her to make a block for a friend.

I have been busy with odd and ends projects for two weeks and getting so much done, that I've put sewing on hold. I'm toying with giving my g'son a wool quilt I made, because he likes the warm, heavy quilts and uses them. If I decide to, then I need to do some knotting on it to reinforce the layers together before Christmas. I made the one quilt to send to the Children's home and just decided not to put Christmas gifts on the agenda to sew. I would like a Christmas with no extra pressure or rush, and this year is it. LOL. I did get the sewing room walls finished. Good-bye loud paisley wallpaper.

Yes MamaGoose that is a wonderful thought provoking image. You and LL have been rung through the mill. I also had a few issues with medications for Joe. This is when I started to keep a detailed journal. Some thing that could not just be heard from me but written so the doctors and nurses would see I was keeping details and when he was told to take this or that med is showed up in his food journal as barfing his guts out. Stop the meds he was better. And even though these meds were supposed to keep him from getting sick they did not work that way. I was also very frustrated on the way they were taking care of him in the hospital. His skin was horrible and his toe nails were awful. No one even bothered to look at his feet but me. Interesting the first thing the home health nurse looked at was his feet and she was pleased I had cared for them She said it is common in hospital to neglect the feet. And when they brought him food they did not open the container even after notes taped to the tray and written on his board in the room. I would get there and everything closed up. He could not open the containers so he would go hungry. He was too out of it to ask. I had to spoon feed him for a couple weeks after we got home. Sometimes he fell back to sleep eating half a cup of custard. LBD sounds like a horrible disease. Spiders coming from the ceiling is more than enough to make a person go over the edge. Feeling so bad for your and and Hubby. MG and LL. We did get some sun. We canceled the dentist appointment yesterday AM. too much snow and emergency weather alerts saying stay off the roads. I think we got 5 or 6 inches of snow but at some point in the night there was a bit of rain so it laid down an ice slick under the snow. This morning we woke to sun and about 13 degrees. We did breakfast then out to put the snow plow on the ranger. Joe had about half of it done then I went out to help him do the rest. I know he wanted to do it all by himself but it is good for me to refresh my brain on how it goes on and comes off. Then I went off to the post office and Joe plowed the driveway. LOL He even plowed a swath across the back yard for the kitties to travel on their adventures.

I am in exactly the same place with my red oak floors :( my floors look just as orange as in the pictures... and the variations and wood grain are much more pronounced than I wanted. I have the flooring company coming in on Monday to put down the third coat of poly - do I have any options at this point? Or just a matter of it mattering less once I get more used to the new color...? I had this same level of shock and discomfort with my wall color (had to leave my apartment for the evening just to soothe myself!), but once they sanded the floors - I realized I loved the wall color, just that my old floor finish was clashing with it. Now after staining the floor - I am back to feeling they really clash... and I really wish I had just opted for no stain and a natural finish instead... I’d take that look over what I now have any day. At least - that’s how it feels right now. To the original poster - @lacollar - (or anyone else with a similar experience) - did you eventually get used to (or even fall in love with?! :)) your floors... even though at first it felt like the choice of stain color was a huge mistake? Has anyone tried tinting the final coat to tone down the orange/reds? Does that work? Appreciate any help/advice. Thank you all!

Gin - I was able to take off the ankle from my Pfaff and put in on the FW and use all the Pfaff feet. (My dealer showed me.)

I also wanted to point out to those who may want to try this quick quilt, but want it larger. Before the last step of cutting in half and sewing- the section measures 99" x 30"(a little larger after pressing)
3 jelly rolls sewn to this point, then the sections sewn together should give you a king size or close. I may make a quick king.

Sitting here smiling because you know you got it bad ............when.

We have a generator, but it was used mostly for g'house crops, and only found its way down to the house once q three days to kick on the freezer and fridge so food wouldn't spoil. The whole house is pretty much retrofitted now to run sans electric if needed.

I have hand quilted and embroidered by oil lamp. Suppose many generations before me did the same thing in this old house.

Nice! I may cut up some strips and bring them to the retreat. Great way to use up all those scraps.

Glad you're back in business Marsha!!! I hand quilted with a flashlight (one of the big camping size) but it wasn't the same as having lights. To me the humidity was the worse part. We had 4 hurricanes in a row and trees and trash everywhere. But all fam & friends were safe!!
Thanks for the pattern, it makes a cute quilt.

I'm glad you have power again and you are all safe to boot. It's nice to have a "souvenir"of this harsh year. I'll be anxious to see how you quilt it. It's lovely.

The instructions are to join all the strips on the diagonal. What would happen if they were all joined on the straight. How would the quilt look then? Would it be awful? Just a question.

Great job, Marsha!!

You can lead the races at Retreat then! I had plans to have 'quilt races' doing this! You can make your 2nd portion to your king-size!

Very good question - actually, sewing the diagonals is the time consuming part of making this, because I also trimmed the excess w/ scissors and clipped the threads after each seam. When I tried to chain piece, I inadvertently flipped the long strip and had the seam on the wrong side, even though I thought I was careful. I think you need the diagonal seam to keep the eye moving down the strips-visually looks better and more complicated.

I think I am going to add a border or two. Good idea Rebeca - to quilt hurricanes / wind.
