Revere Pewter didn't work for me on my master bedroom walls. Neither did pale oak. I ended up getting a custom gray.

FWIW, I plan to do my living room in the same scheme. But, I am doing my walls in BM Spanish White with my trim in White Dove. My furniture will be cream, gold, and navy with marble and wood furniture pieces. My interest in keeping the walls more neutral is that we are photographers and I want to have a gallery wall behind the sofa that I can switch out photos seasonally.

Just a quick question...the blue in the rug appears to be more of a French or Cadet blue rather than navy. Does it look that way in real life?

The first photo is one I found on Pinterest, but the pattern and the colors are quite close to the actual rug she'll be using. The colors in the first photo look a little washed out to me, compared to the real thing. In real life, the camel is a little more golden, the blue is a little more navy, and the red is a little more brick. I have tweaked the photo to make the colors more representative (at least on my monitor) of the actual rug. I don't know that a photo of the actual rug would have been a truer color rendition, though. My photographs all seem to be quite yellow!

If you will do a search on "oriental rug" at Houzz.com, there are some interesting pictures that might inspire you. I tried "navy living rooms" as a search and found that to return fewer results that weren't as applicable.

One thing I noticed was that when there was a bold oriental rug in the picture with neutral upholstered pieces, the color of the wall paint and draperies was often a shade of brown, toning down the carpet.

As is often the case with these things, DD & DSIL are changing their minds daily. They've now decided to leave the walls the color they are. DD describes it as "builder tan," which is slightly darker than "builder beige."

Looking through the 57,000+ photos of rooms with oriental rugs on houzz.com is no small undertaking. But what great inspiration!

At least Houzz now has the slideshow feature that lets you click through fairly rapidly. When they first started, you had to download a page of a few images at a time. Unfortunately, there are still lots of duplicate photos. I wish the site could clear some of the duplicates away and change their search function to allow a more targeted search.

I looked on Houzz and hopefully this link will have the same photo for you. First picture. So yeah, beige walls would be perfect with the rug.

I haven't found the slideshow function on houzz yet. Gotta try that.

I have another rug they could use that has about the same level of wear as this one. I've always liked it and didn't worry about wear on an antique oriental rug. Do you think this looks too worn? Mine is a navy border with a closed raspberry field. There are touches of camel and sage green in the border and the field.

I never think any truly vintage Oriental looks too worn, but it does inform the decor direction of the room.
