I wonder if the companies have been sued over these and that is why they put out these warnings? (some people will find anything to sue over, right?) Makes you wonder. I mean surely they can't think people are THAT dumb. LOL

Of course they think people are that dumb! Many of them are.

I'm not going to google it, but many years ago someone set a stepladder up on a pile of frozen manure, but it wasn't quite as frozen as he thought. Ladder and idiot fell. His view was the company that made the ladder should have warned him not to set it up on a partially thawed pile of sh!^. Now there are warnings on ladders. Many people out there are just plain stupid.

My sister was stupid enough to use a fabric steamer on a jacket while wearing it-it was just a small wrinkle, but still! Idiot, and we still tease her about it.

Yep, I think these dumb warnings are the result of lawsuits. Possibly prevention, but my guess is the result of being sued.

These obvious (and needless IMHO) warnings showed up ever since the broad sued MacDonald's when she spilled coffee on herself. Companies are thinking of every possible scenario to inhibit possible suits. I don't blame them for putting these on, but it's unfortunate that it came to this.

The judge who awarded her should be to blame for all this.

I bought a giant bag of Kirkland pecans from Costco last week. On the back it says "Allergy alert! Contains pecans!"

Yeah, we loved the words: Always remove baby before washing.

That was on the peanutshell baby sling. :)

Exactly, I buy a cup of coffee every morning. The paper cup has these words "Caution! Hot!" Gee, I hope so.

I agree, these warnings mostly come from frivolous law suits, and the Judges who hear the cases should be fired or what ever it is you do to get rid of bad ones, and the lawers who take on the cases, should be disbared.

I once bought a curling iron and the package had the warning.....Do not use while sleeping. Now isn't that a new high on multi-tasking. LOL Dottie

I'm a pretty good multi-tasker, but I'd sure like to see the hairdo of somebody that can curl their hair while they sleep...good one, Dottie.

I saw a product in the grocery, which was supposed to be heated in the microwave before use, which had the warning,
"Caution: Contents will be hot after heating".

That "broad" that you refer to was an 81y/o woman. And BTW she was not driving when this occurred like so many think. The car was parked. She received third degree burns requiring numerous skin grafts and over a week's stay in a hospital. There had been 700 previous reported incidents of people getting burned that badly due to McDonald "unique" way of "brewing" coffee. All she wanted was her medical bills paid.

It was not the judge that awarded her millions - it was the JURY that awarded it. The judge REDUCED the award to $480,000 considering the jury's amount to be excessive. The woman then settled for even less than that, out of court, before McDonalds filed their appeal. All she wanted was her medical bills paid.

The woman originally wanted $20,000 to cover her medical costs. It was her lawyer who upped the amount requested. Blame the lawyers if you must point blame. They are working for their percentage 'cut' of the award.

On new camera: "This camera only works when there is film inside."

That is not really a "warning". It is information. Many people buy cameras assuming they are digital cameras and fail to bother reading the instruction manual that comes with it. Then they are upset that they don't have their vacation or wedding pictures and try to return it in a rage because it is "broke". Sooooo, manufacturers had to start putting labels on cameras telling people to put film in them and alerting people to the fact that it was not a digital camera.

On can of self-defense pepper spray: "Warning do not spray at people."

Legalese. For a long time in my state and many others, pepper spray as an assault weapon, was illegal carrying a ten year prison sentence and a $10,000 fine. Sooooo, cayenne pepper spray was marketed for "kitchen use". LOL. This way a person buying pepper spray to own, to defend themselves in case of attack, could avoid prison.

On a household iron: "Never iron clothes while they are on your body."

Ahhhh, sometimes warning are there for dumb people who do something one the spur of the moment. I found out the "Ouch" way that doing a touch up ironing while wearing clothes is not a good idea. Or at least don't use the *Burst of Steam* setting. Ouch.

My DS's umbrella stroller didn't have the warning. It didn't matter, since the stroller couldn't read; it was constantly trying to fold itself up with DS inside.

I like the warning on the iron. Although I haven't *seen* my iron in months...I'm pretty sure it doesn't have that warning on it. If it does, I've ignored it many a time!
