A Chuckle - Actual warnings on product labels!

Came across these warnings from product labels, some of them are pretty funny...enjoy!

1. Do not allow children to play in dishwasher.

2. On a carpenter's electric drill: "This product is not intended for use as a dentist drill!"

3. On a baby stroller: "Remove child before folding."

4. On a handheld massager: "Do not use while sleeping or unconscious."

5. On a laser print cartridge: "Do not eat."

6. On a household iron: "Never iron clothes while they are on your body."

7. On a fireplace log: "Caution, risk of fire."

8. On children's cough medicine: "Do not drive car or operate machinery."

9. On package of peanuts: "Warning, contains nuts."

On a chain saw: "Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands."
On new camera: "This camera only works when there is film inside."
On can of self-defense pepper spray: "Warning do not spray at people."

I think I'd have to go with #3 and #6 as my top two - how about you?

I wonder if the companies have been sued over these and that is why they put out these warnings? (some people will find anything to sue over, right?) Makes you wonder. I mean surely they can't think people are THAT dumb. LOL

Of course they think people are that dumb! Many of them are.

I'm not going to google it, but many years ago someone set a stepladder up on a pile of frozen manure, but it wasn't quite as frozen as he thought. Ladder and idiot fell. His view was the company that made the ladder should have warned him not to set it up on a partially thawed pile of sh!^. Now there are warnings on ladders. Many people out there are just plain stupid.

My sister was stupid enough to use a fabric steamer on a jacket while wearing it-it was just a small wrinkle, but still! Idiot, and we still tease her about it.

I won't mention the company here, but the worst problem I ever had with a food ingredient supplier took nearly 2 months to deliver a simple order. Many emails and requests, then threats, and the relatives of the owner stepped in to assist. Needless to say, I finally did get the items I ordered, but when your working on something that needs to get done before the produce spoils, what can you do. After a long length of pleads, a brother sent me a refund and asked me to stop emailing him. He had taken it upon himself to send me the cost of my order, but was quite hostile, even though I had not sent him the initial requests for order status. At the time, the order was charged to my CC the moment it was placed, so 2 months was not a good outcome. I have found that if I use commerical jellies as pie ot turnover fillings, they tend to boil too much and will brn quicker. Nothing worse then scraping hard, black, burned on stuff from your non stick baking pans. Did you check with the following site? http://www.theingredientstore.com/generalstore/starches_gums_flours-300/index.htm They do offer options to UPS, but you need to call them before placing an order. US postal Parcel post is the cheapest, but because of fuel costa, anyplace you order from that ship this will have costs for shipping. As a help, if you plan to use the product again, order a larger amount, so that you not only save money on multiple shippings, but you usually pay less for a larger amount. If you have a baking supply store near you, ask them if they can stock Clear Jel for you. I am sure that many cooking/baking stores would like you as a paying customer.. How about a company charging you shipping costs on a replacement for a defective product. Here, in 'Taxachusetts' taxes are also collected on shipping charges. That burns me no end..

Esther, whoops! Sorry, somehow didn't see your response until now! Yes, I saw that other vendors of the dog tags also charge almost as much for shipping the second through gazillionth tag as they do the first, but I think that's because normally they probably aren't selling more than a couple or three at a time -- they're dog tags, and very few people have as many dogs as I have hostas! :) I think next time I'm going to contact the seller ahead of time and ask for cheaper shipping. It cost her $1.71 to ship my tags, and she charged me over $10 in shipping. That's ridiculous. However, I'm very happy with the tags themselves, and I probably will go back for more even if I have to keep paying that much in shipping because the tags look so good. I found some skewers that worked! I found these on Amazon and was able to bend them using pliers by laying them flat on my kitchen counter with the loop hanging over the edge, grasping them right up under the neck of the loop with the pliers, then bending up HARD. I'm scrawny and I could do it, so it would be a cinch for any man and probably most women. These skewers are flat, so I did need the loops that came with the tags, but I really love the finished product, and the skewers are 17" long so they can go deep into the ground and still stick up high enough to read easily without squatting. Cats and puppies are far more likely to experience adverse reactions to flea products. Years ago it was recommended that only flea powders be used and that they be used with caution and washed away once they did the job. Even flea baths were deemed too harsh. Another thing many people don't realize is that many heartworm tablets also have flea preventative. So some people who use both may be unknowingly overdosing their pets. Ask if you pet is already receiving flea protection through their heart worm meds. Flea and heart worm preventatives are a wonderful science for animals that need them. If you live in a mosquito invested area heartworm meds are a must. But too many pets are on heart worm meds year round when they might only need them at specific times of the year,when traveling or never depending on where they live. The same can be said for flea medications. Once the fleas and eggs have been dealt with then enough of the treatments already. There are some environments where regular flea maintenance may be required but not every household pet needs to be dosed with pesticide every month. I have two large dogs. Both had fleas just once in their lives. The Lab as a puppy and the Rot when she first came to us in her later life because she was often at the dog park. These dogs have "natural" flea prevention. I leave their coats alone except for brushing. All the dogs I know that have skin and flea problems are constantly being bathed as if they were children. They are dogs. They have natural skin oils that need not be washed away. A muddy dog can be simply hosed down if needed but the full bath thing with shampoo, conditioner and cologne etc. is way over the top for many dogs. My dogs get a bath maybe twice a year or if they roll in something really disgusting. They don't smell, they don't have skin problems and they don't have fleas. They are brushed and their ears are cleaned. Their nails are kept short, one by nature and one who needs regular clipping and dremeling. Please take a look at what you are doing to your pets. If there is a medical reason for doing something like extra bathing then fine. But don't just do things because every says so. I am extremely lucky to have an honest vet who doesn't push unnecessary things but even some practices out there are really pushing products for profit these days. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Oh, I have never really been shy about these things. I'm not quite as liberated as my cousin though, who once had to pee so badly that she just pulled to the side of a busy road and did a squat. Unfortunately, a police car happened by at the same time and she ended up being cited for "public exposure of genitalia." Yeah. You don't wanna be THAT person.

Yep, I think these dumb warnings are the result of lawsuits. Possibly prevention, but my guess is the result of being sued.

These obvious (and needless IMHO) warnings showed up ever since the broad sued MacDonald's when she spilled coffee on herself. Companies are thinking of every possible scenario to inhibit possible suits. I don't blame them for putting these on, but it's unfortunate that it came to this.

The judge who awarded her should be to blame for all this.

I bought a giant bag of Kirkland pecans from Costco last week. On the back it says "Allergy alert! Contains pecans!"

Yeah, we loved the words: Always remove baby before washing.

That was on the peanutshell baby sling. :)

Exactly, I buy a cup of coffee every morning. The paper cup has these words "Caution! Hot!" Gee, I hope so.

I agree, these warnings mostly come from frivolous law suits, and the Judges who hear the cases should be fired or what ever it is you do to get rid of bad ones, and the lawers who take on the cases, should be disbared.

I once bought a curling iron and the package had the warning.....Do not use while sleeping. Now isn't that a new high on multi-tasking. LOL Dottie

I'm a pretty good multi-tasker, but I'd sure like to see the hairdo of somebody that can curl their hair while they sleep...good one, Dottie.

I saw a product in the grocery, which was supposed to be heated in the microwave before use, which had the warning,
"Caution: Contents will be hot after heating".
Do you think?

That "broad" that you refer to was an 81y/o woman. And BTW she was not driving when this occurred like so many think. The car was parked. She received third degree burns requiring numerous skin grafts and over a week's stay in a hospital. There had been 700 previous reported incidents of people getting burned that badly due to McDonald "unique" way of "brewing" coffee. All she wanted was her medical bills paid.

It was not the judge that awarded her millions - it was the JURY that awarded it. The judge REDUCED the award to $480,000 considering the jury's amount to be excessive. The woman then settled for even less than that, out of court, before McDonalds filed their appeal. All she wanted was her medical bills paid.

The woman originally wanted $20,000 to cover her medical costs. It was her lawyer who upped the amount requested. Blame the lawyers if you must point blame. They are working for their percentage 'cut' of the award.

That is not really a "warning". It is information. Many people buy cameras assuming they are digital cameras and fail to bother reading the instruction manual that comes with it. Then they are upset that they don't have their vacation or wedding pictures and try to return it in a rage because it is "broke". Sooooo, manufacturers had to start putting labels on cameras telling people to put film in them and alerting people to the fact that it was not a digital camera.

Legalese. For a long time in my state and many others, pepper spray as an assault weapon, was illegal carrying a ten year prison sentence and a $10,000 fine. Sooooo, cayenne pepper spray was marketed for "kitchen use". LOL. This way a person buying pepper spray to own, to defend themselves in case of attack, could avoid prison.

Ahhhh, sometimes warning are there for dumb people who do something one the spur of the moment. I found out the "Ouch" way that doing a touch up ironing while wearing clothes is not a good idea. Or at least don't use the *Burst of Steam* setting. Ouch.

My DS's umbrella stroller didn't have the warning. It didn't matter, since the stroller couldn't read; it was constantly trying to fold itself up with DS inside.

I like the warning on the iron. Although I haven't *seen* my iron in months...I'm pretty sure it doesn't have that warning on it. If it does, I've ignored it many a time!
