electronic item? Raven posted a reader at one sale a day.

A refurbished pandigital reader.. just wondering if any one

has had any problems with refurbished items. I have only a little more than an hour to decide! lol

I've bought a few including a 32" TV recently for my DD. Never had any problems... none of the items looked used.. they all looked new and all came with some sort of warranty.

I have my Vizio Vtab 1008 tablet that is a refurbished, no problem with it.
With that price not a big risk. There's a warranty on it.

I have double Cellular blinds (Alta from Budget Blinds) in my home office and love them except I dislike the long cords that keep tangling. I also wish I had gone with Hunter Douglas to get one big light filter single cell Duet blind on my two windows with retractaible cords. For my bedroom, I bought the Architella Duet Hunter Douglas Cellular blinds with the retractable cords in a 3/4" size. I love the bigger pleat size, I like the soft look, I love the insulating properties, and I love the top down/bottom up feature with no cords tangling and all cords staying the same length. I am just not crazy about the Linen color at night since it gets too brown for the look I wanted in my bedroom and I wish I went with the Daisy White.

I'm jealous! Funkyart - we are doing the same thing - redoing our bedroom furniture after 20+ years with a *matched* bedroom set. We had a couple of antique pieces in there also, but wanted a more unique look, rather than a matched set. Plus, we were tired of it! LOL We bought an old armoire and hubby refitted the inside with shelves. There is an area for the tv. I have an antique vanity and a small chest of drawers that the top actually pulls down and makes a secretary. That is *my* nightstand. We are currently looking for an iron bed and an old dresser or some type chest. I'll also have to find something for hubby's side of the bed - maybe a small table instead of something with drawers. Anyhoo (I'm sure you wanted to read all that!), I love the old iron beds, but we just can't handle a double bed. I'm currently looking at a place that has new beds, but many are old looking and you can pick a custom finish, so that helps in making the piece fit in with the other antique pieces. I love numbers 1 and 2 of your beds. Let us know which one you choose! tina

I found out it's on backorder, but should still ship before Christmas. The lady I spoke with on the phone said I had 30 days to return, but I'm sure the shipping would be quite high on something that big. I guess that's a risk I'll have to take. Can anyone give an opinion on whether this looks like decent quality? It looks to be of a nice weight and thickness. The lady at West Elm said it's nothing like one of those flimsy dhurries.

I've never bought refurbished items, but have been tempted to do so. Let me put it this way: What she doesn't know, won't hurt. And even if she finds out (somehow), who cares. By then she'll be enjoying the thoughtfulness of the gift. However, I would not put it in a gift bag, but rather a nice, sturdy box that fits the size of the frame with layers of tissue paper for a better presentation than a bag. That way you won't have to worry about a bag falling over due to weight on one side (if she doesn't open it immediately), because those frames don't stand up well if the easel isn't open (if you get my drift). In addition, I always feel a gift bag is a cop out from wrapping a gift and decorating the box with ribbon curls and a nice bow. I'd much rather open a wrapped box then take something out of a gift bag. It's the unwrapping and anticipation, I guess. Though I have been guilty of using bags if it's an awkward shaped gift to wrap. I would want the $10 rebate if I were you. 'nough said.

I've bought refurbished computers, and never had a problem. Someone explained to me that "refurbished" doesn't mean much. When something is returned, it's sent back to the manufacturer. "Refurbished" may just mean that they checked it out to see if it was o.k., cleaned it up if nothing was wrong, and sent it back out. I got a refurbished desktop that had a few scratches on it from rough handling, but it was fine and lasted me many years, until it was struck by lightning.

Often a "refurbished" can be better than "new" in some ways, since often the refurbs are tested to see if they're working properly while new items are normally only spot tested at best. I've bought a lot of refurb items over the years. Most couldn't be distinguished from new. I've had far more problems with new items than refurbs percentage-wise.

With reputable operations, an item returned, unused and unopened cannot be sold as new. Generally mail-order places are watched more closely on this than are retail operations. Go to the "W" place and return something and it goes back onto the shelf and re-sold as "new".
