Interior door / hardware stlye and color? (pics)

I'm trying to decide on my interior doors and am having a little trouble. This is what I like but am concerned about it looking dated in a few years. It is an 1850 home that we are putting an addition on and renovating.

I like this door knob

In this finish

Any opinions or advise?

Nice selections. I want to ask, is the interior style of the house cottage or country? I find this door would go best in those two styles because of the beadboard. There is a similar door that has a plain interior panel that is pretty much generic as far as I'm concerned and would go with any style. As for the door knob I don't think that will go out of style.

I love your choices, also! Are you planning on changing all the door hardware in your house to match the ORB finish?

FWIW, and possibly unfortunately, I agree with your friend. The short moment when the door is open isn't sufficient to justify matching the satin nickle inside; and IMHO, metals within eyeball range should be at least of similar color. One sees (even if not consciously studies) the exterior lights and exterior knobs as a decor unit, and upon departing, the room's interior knobs (whether cabinet or several doors) are a different unit. I realize the SET of mix/match knobs looks strange while it's in your hand, but honestly, once installed, I don't think anyone ever stands at the door's edge in order to eyeball the interior and exterior knobs at the same time. I suspect you'd have to work hard to name any m/m sets in your present world, and yet there are likely to be many (especially on bathroom doors).

Trend, as far as I can judge, is gold, copper, and flat black. Of course other finishes are widely used by most. But I wouldn't worry about trends so much. What I would worry about-is how my chosen finish going to look like. For example chrome or nickel look good both in cheaper options and in more expensive ones. Brass or gold or oil-rubbed bronze can be extremely beautiful, but then they would cost more. And if they are cheap they sometimes won't look that great. I think some level of mixing finishes is perfectly acceptable, and can ever be extremely beautiful at times, but requires confidence and good eye. But if for example you are going with dark levers, black or bronze, and the hardware in bath is pewter or nickel-I think it will work. If levers are black and hardware is brass-would also work. Now, mixing "silver" finishes and gold ones-here I'd be more careful, because that's much harder to pull off. My preferred finishes are copper, polished nickel, antique silver, antique brass, pewter..all of these usually require special order and longer lead time, just something to keep in mind. I went with polished nickel in master bath-frankly, if I knew it'd be such a pain, I'd reconsider. As for the contrast-I think bronze or black would look amazing with white doors. Unless you have doors that you dislike so much you'd rather unsee them..:) I hope to see other answers here too, choosing hardware is an interesting topic.

You can split finishes with Rejuvenation door hardware, and could probably do the same with hardware from House of Antique Hardware or other reproduction hardware vendors. We did that with a few of our doors, and we have ORB knobs on our main floor (where the woodwork is stained) and white porcelain knobs upstairs and in our basement (where the trim is painted white).

Mark - ha ha, I'm guessing you don't like a black/white home. Patricia, I don't have any photos as we just broke ground. I've been trying to find photos with the different looks. I was thinking the black hardware on white doors would look like a checkerboard, but I keep seeing it online. That's why I'm thinking polished nickel which is what we like and I think they are more of a timeless look, but want to hear/see from others. Thank you!

Brutuses... I wish I could answer that! People ask me what my 'style' is and I just don't know! My mom says I'm 'eclectic' because I just pick what I like. I know I'm definately not modern. I grew up in a country home so that is comfortable to me. I guess I just have some of everything!
We have gutted the house so all of the hardware will be ORB. I hope I don't regret that down the road but I love it right now. Glad to hear you don't think I'm crazy. Some days with all of these decisions I sure feel it... ;~)

I am looking at the same door! Ours is a craftsman/ranch style house and I am using that door upstairs. Down stairs I am using a 5 panel door. There are only 3 interior doors down stairs and that is the look I am going for.

I do have beadboard in the master bath, so I think that door will go fine.

I don't think it would look dated. I love it! My doors are similar but without the beadboard.

In it's original state, I believe it would be very rare to see an 1850 house with rounded panel interior doors. I think you will risk a dated look with them.

I've lived in 3 old homes and I'm an admitted purist when it comes to interior decoration so take my comments as you wish. I'd go with square/rectangle panels.

I agree with patser on the door style. But you should get whatever door you like best. Love the egg knob and ORB finish. It will look very nice.

Are you replacing ALL the interior doors? If not, I'd try to match the existing doors as much as possible. I used ORB knobs/hardware on our addition and love it.

Mine are like Lindybarts. Those are the ones I had in mind for you. It's a style that would match anything I believe. However, if you think your house will lean toward country style then the beadboard door would work.

I am just putting in all new doors to go with the new door and hinges and ORB knobs I am using in my new bathroom. It has 2 panels like yours, but no bead board and a straight top. I really like this style, but yours is nice too.
