Help me choose right pink rose for my front yard.
Comments (11)I have several of these roses. First, Pear d'Or is more of an apricot/pink, probably more apricot than pink. It, so far for me, has been a nice rose and just borderline for a pot. Bonica is gorgeous, full, constantly blooming, wonderful pink color but in my garden way to large for a pot. Bonica I also like Sharifa Asma and so far is just borderline size for a nice sized pot. I'm afraid that this rose too, might get to large (at least in my garden). This rose is gorgeous and extremely fragrant though. Mine's still young, only a year old. So, for my suggestions, at least of the ones mentioned that I grow, I have to also suggest Our Lady of Guadalupe. This one stays nice and compact, is in constant bloom, has a nice pink color and fragrance. You could also try Pink Gruss an Aachen. It's surprisingly compact and nice rose. The pink is slightly bolder than OLG but a nice pink, not garrish, and the blooms are much fuller. The plant is thornless or nearly so. In my garden, however, it doesn't bloom quite as well as OLG but might do better in a pot. Mine is in the ground. Our Lady of Guadalupe...See MoreHelp to choose a pink-ish large flowered cl.
Comments (32)Hi Nik, We are also in zone 9 (central California) and are growing Awakening. It is quite vigorous and thorny and slow to repeat and suffered severely with powdery mildew in the spring. The flowers are not that exciting, around 3 inches across. We bought a grafted Radio Times rose (Rosa multiflora rootstock) around 3 years ago and planted it around 8 feet from the base of a Krauter Vesuvius flowering plum tree. RT decided the it would be more fun to grow as a climber and began to throw up long canes. The canes have invaded the canopy of this tree and you can now see huge (4-5 inch) spectacular flowers peeking through the purple foliage as you come down the street. Most of the flowers are, unfortunately, out of reach. And so one of my winter projects is to cut this monster back and plant it near a rail fence and train the canes horizontally. The repeat is much better than that of Awakening and the flowers are quite beautiful, thickly petalled and very fragrant. Downside: it is a bit thorny and suffers from a touch of mildew (as do many roses with exceptional fragrance) from time to time. Two other pink English rose climbers that we are growing are Spirit of Freedom (own root) and Wedgewood Rose (grafted). Both would be good roses for you to consider. Any yet another is The Generous Gardener, which is a blush pink to blush apricot. TGG seems to have less mildew than the others and has dark green, glossy foliage which is quite attractive. Good luck in your choice! John...See MorePlease help with choosing a good pink for DD room.
Comments (8)Room is painted. We ended up picking BM Just Peachy, which came out great! Nice pale pink, not too nursery, not too hot pink. The room has a nice "glow" so far and the sun has not been out for days here... -palimpsest- The suggestion to follow pinks from the Brown line of colors was a great idea and that's how we ended up with this color, I kept telling my DD not to read the name of the color-- this usually misleads. She's happy. -rtmom2- To answer your furniture question. DD has natural wood with pine knots showing, french country style. The headboard has subtle stencil done in pale pinks, greens, peach flowers in a light brown basket. Some of this repeats on a smaller scale on the hutch, dresser. The pink on the walls picks up the pink in the flowers and seems to take on something from the natural wood, this pink and the natural wood looks good in the room. The pine knots which are darker will help with the brown that we are working with and I am considering changing her dresser, desk knobs to metal oil-rubbed bronze ones to tie in a new look. We got our furniture years ago at Seamans Kids here in the Northeast, they've gone out of business. Have you tried IKEA for natural wood look? My DD also is not yet into "black" as a color, seems to be the consensus all around...wait another 3 years! Yikes! Good luck. Thank you everyone for all the good ideas, I like the thin line in contrasting paint or some sort of stencil. I'll have to play around with that myself. I hope to put out pictures soon....See MoreNeed help choosing exterior paint color. We don't like pink!
Comments (5)Are you looking for color blocking? I see it in your inspiration photos. If you do then you should try the home decorating forum. I am not a fan of color blocking myself, but they know all about it....See Moretfm1134
