dishwasher protrude amount and toe kick?

I was wondering how you determine how far to push in the dishwasher.. it should be flush with something..?

also the metal plate that came with the washer is not pretty and has anyone just continue the cabinetry toe kick under it instead?

any pics?

I installed our Miele last week. I made it extend about 1/16th of an inch beyond the drawer faces. I did that to hide any irregularities. I was thinking that if you install it so that it is perfectly flush, things can change over time so that one side isn't.

I continued the cabinet toe kick under the DW, but I don't have any pics handy.

I can't help you much, but I most certainly will be using a wood toe kick on mine. We are on a tight budget and I picked up a used stainless dishwasher on Craigslist last weekend for $200. It was about an hour's drive away. Well, we just installed it yesterday and realized: no toe kick!! Plus, it doesn't drain completely....if we can get it to drain all the way, then we'll have to add a wood toe kick to match the existing cabinetry. Good luck I think it'll look fine.

Doesn't matter which cycle. Rinse/Hold is fine ... just add a tablespoon or two directly to the tub, let the machine swish it around and drain. Fabric softener kills suds in washing machines so it'd surely do the same in a dishwasher ... very little should be needed, less than a tablespoon. Dishwasher detergent ideally should not generate any suds. Suds interfere with rotation of the spray arm, dragging it down from proper speed ... and can also cause a vapor lock on the pump, starving it for water, reducing spray pressure and resulting in bad washing/rinsing performance. Rinse aid is a sort of detergent or soap and can cause sudsing in the final rinse if the dosage is too high for the water conditions (hardness). Dispensers inject just milliliters of rinse aid. Adjustable rinse aid dispensers typically release from 1 ML at the lowest setting to maybe 5 ML at the highest. 1 teaspoon is 4.9 ML. No "regular" liquid hand-dishwashing detergent in the household? Seems a little odd, LOL. Sudsing can be caused by residue left on dishware that has been sloshed in soapy water in the sink and then loaded into the machine.

One of the appliance folk can probably say with more certainty than I could but the model you chose looks like the Optima I had in my apartment, which was a great, great dw. I have a 10 y.o. Incognito though it dries very well. I've never opened the door. Here's what Miele says about how the drying system works -- it is not heated drying and requires no energy usage. "Most Miele dishwashers employ an advanced drying system that draws room temperature air through a port at the bottom of the appliance. This air is disbursed through special channels around the exterior dishwasher cavity and allows the interior water particles to condense against the walls of the dishwasher. During this process no external air is ever introduced inside of the dishwasher. This provides the most effective and hygienic drying possible." The reason the dishes get dryer on Saniwash is because that water is very hot and, provided the dw is fairly full, the condensation is quite complete. I have Ikea cabinets in the laundry room so I'm aware of precautions with those. Their plinth board in there is starting to peel though the cabinets are doing fine. I would just be aware and make adjustments needed. The DW does come with a front piece that is contiguous with the toe kick in my kitchen but that would depend on which Ikea cabinets are being used and how they are being installed. Crystal looks like a good choice to me.

Antss....not trying to say anything. I said it. Don't understand why clarification needed. I've said 105F is warm water....probably cooler than you'd use in the sink if you were hand washing. It isn't hot enough for the detergent to do what it's supposed to do in the machine. I would not run ANY DW cycle at such a low temperature. If the machine I own delivered only that, I would regard it as broken. In fact, that's why I just replaced my machine. The relay controlling the heating element failed and there was no capability of heat-boost to an acceptable temperature. (And fixing that 9-year-old machine would have cost too much.) I was left with washing temperature of about 105F, terrible cleaning, and no drying. The OP stated that his hottest wash temperature was 105 which I said was "ridiculous" because it is. If OP's machine is not capable of boosting to at least 120F, I regard that as unacceptable....which is what I said. OP has not responded. I suspect he does, in fact, have a machine that is capable of heating the wash-water above 105 but the heating element is not working properly....but don't know. 120 is the typical "normal" temp dishwashers use. Except for OP's machine, I am aware of none that will not do this in the "normal" cycle. 140-145 is the typical "hot wash" boost, available on many/most machines and gives better cleaning -- of course at the expense of more energy use. 155+ is what DW's typically offer in their "sani-rinse" cycles. Wash temperature is lower than that but the final rinse is boosted way up.

How to start a fight: discuss flooring before or after dishwasher, before or after cabinets etc. You're in a retrofit/remodel situation. Normally with new we run floors continuously through the DW cavity so the rear legs don't have to be adjusted significantly just to install or remove. Some thoughts: One could create a seam behind the toe plate and still install flooring behind the seam. One could build a sheet metal pan in that space, then fill w flooring to the same level leaving a way to capture leaks. Regarding leaks.... find some battery powered leak detectors and leave under DW & sink.

You might not want to continue the main toekick (although since you're DIY, you'll know the ins and outs of toekick installation so it might not be a big deal). Usually people have a separate toekick for the DW so that if repairs are necessary the whole thing doesn't have to come out.

We took a piece of the cabinet skin and made a toe kick for our DW. We then used velcro to keep in on. We did the same thing for our built in refrigerator. It's easily removable and looks great!

My husband did this for me about a year and a half ago. Install regularly... use the floor board, attach the trim to that and then vecro on...

We have Fisher-Paykel dishdrawers which come with a black plastic toe kick piece that I didn't like at all. Also we have Scherr's cabinets which have adjustable plastic legs, to which the toekick boards attach using plastic clips. So for us it was relatively simple to extend the toekicks all the way across the run of cabinets and across beneath the dishwasher as well.
