stimulas check and those who had to pay???

Has anyone received their stimulus check that had to pay federal income taxes when they filed their return? I had to send in a check with my return but asked that they direct deposit the stimulus check. Just checked their website but nothing is listed for our account- it should be deposited this week.

I have a credit card bill due between the direct deposit date and the mailed check date while medical bills on it that had to be paid before th end of April and school fees that were due this week.

Will we have to wait on a mailed paper check? :-(

We didn't have to pay and according to the IRS website we should have received the stimulus check this past Friday but the website to check it is still showing no information for us. Nothing has shown up in our account either and we had direct deposit of our tax refund. I figure we won't get it because we were counting on it too--that's just how our luck goes. Hope you get yours soon.

We didn't owe any taxes. Our money showed up in our account today.

Hi graywings, I started reading this thread without noting the dates the posts were written. Dave, I don't want to put you on the spot, but I am wondering how the accounts you spoke of in 2007, the 72c Guaranteed Savings accounts (equity-indexed fixed life contract, or annuity contract) have weathered over the last three years. Heh... you can "put me on the spot" in this regard *ANY* time ;~) Both the equity indexed life & annuity products have *VERY* strongly outperformed the unprotected stock index markets over the same periods of time (since 2007. In fact, going back from today to almost as far as you'd like.) Their design is that they capture & credit any annual upside (to a maximum gain,) and lock that amount permanently to your credit. On any years with a downside, your account sits tight with no losses at all (guaranteed by the insured backings of the company reserves and the state's guarantee association (each state's equivalent of a regional "FDIC" in essence.) If you put $100,000 in the S&P 500 for the last decade, you'd actually be holding a bit LESS than $100,000 today (not deducting the tax or management fees that may also be applied.) The same $100,000 in an insured indexing account would be approximately $211,768, net of everything (taxes & fees,) *OR* about an average annual tax-free rate of return of 7.06% Alternatively, those folks who decided to take their working capital OUT of growth, and put it into their real estate equity, have been double-stung; Not only have they gained nothing toward retirement, their equity values have decayed from 10-30% (depending on the area.) The clients who've been with us the last 3-5 years have been rather relieved, ecstatic, and pleasantly bored, all at the same time. Its a very nice financial reality to provide. YES, keep copies of them. I had a situation several years ago in which the bookkeeping/accounting person had no freaking clue what she was doing and wasn't depositing payroll taxes. When the situation was discovered and the girlie fired, her replacement had to research all the records. When all was said and done and a new system in place, it ended up that my records were still not correct, several weeks of payroll taxes were missing from the totals. I had all the original check stubs to cross-reference and get the numbers corrected. By the way, I believe it is illegal (on either the state or federal level) for employers to NOT provide a detailed paycheck stub in some form. I'm assuming your company has an intranet that all employees can access from work and/or home to get the information. Otherwise, they would probably have to provide a printed checkstub.

(I have deposited more-than-a-year-old checks and had them clear; I can understand why your DH did this, as well as him not noticing. Also, my next-door neighbors were getting old a senile, and didn't cash pension checks; they got a letter saying "did you get your check? it hasn't been cashed? but it was many months later, and it was several checks still on the DR table, not one check) when they took the money out of your savings account, did they give the "defective" check back to you? Shouldn't they have? Demand it be returned to you. (a lesson to us all--if we are giving a bank money back for a check, we should get the check physically returned to us) Unless they submitted it all over again? Here's what I think happened, if I understand this right. (some queries, though) 1. You give them a check, they give you cash. 2. They send the check to the central clearing house (the Federal Reserve?) to get their money. 3. The central clearing house gives the CU its money, and sends the check on to GM to get the money back from them. 4. GM sends the check--but no money--back to the central clearing house as "defective"'; the central clearing house is still in need of money. 5. The central clearing house sends the check back to the CU as "defective" and wants its money back from them. I would think the CU would have an account of money it would use to cover this; it pays the central clearing house, and the central clearing house is out of it. 6. the CU brings the check back to you, and says they want that money back; they take it out of your account. THEY SHOULD GIVE THE CHECK BACK TO YOU--it is your property, once they have their money back. At the very least, they should have destroyed it, but really they should have given it to you so YOU could destroy it. I'm thinking this is where the CU goofed, and I'd press this point. 7. You get a replacement check, and submit it, and the "you to the CU to the central clearing house to GM" chain works, this time. (can you get the folks at GM to send you a copy of their canceled check, the replacement one that supposedly worked just fine? Might be nice to have) Suddenly the old "defective" check is around. (Sometimes if a check is returned for "insufficient funds," the bank will resubmit it, just in case the money will turn up. They will bill the depositor $15, and then if it's returned twice, they'll bill another $15; the check-writer's account will get billed as well each time; this was unpopular, so some banks don't make a second attempt. I'm wondering if your "defective" check got slipped into the "insufficient funds" category and was REsubmitted? So, let's postulate: 8. The credit union resubmits the check to the central clearing house (Federal Reserve?) to get the money. BUT IF THIS IS THE CASE, then they should have RECREDITED your account when they RESUBMITTED the check. (because if they don't give you any money, then they shouldn't be getting any money from anyone else--it's not their money, it's yours, they're just the "pipe" to move it around) Did they? If you can get them to trace their records of when the check was submitted, can you insist that they DO credit your account w/ the money, on that day? 9. The clearing house (FR?) gives the CU the money, and sends the "defective" check on to GM. 10. GM marks the "defective" check w/ a confusing note that was *intended* to indicate that this check has been replaced w/another check, and sends it, but no money, to the clearing house (FR?) 11. The clearing house sends the check back to the CU, demanding its money back. 12. The CU comes to you demanding the money that it owes to the FR. So, did they "give you money" for that check twice (once in cash, once by crediting your account)? No, you say--but if this is what happened, then they should have. Or else someone put that check in the wrong stack somewhere--and I'd want to SEE that check, and I'd want to try to figure who where the "in lieu of" came from. So they should have given you money twice, and asked to get money back from you twice. Maybe if that's the chain of events, you can make them re-credit your savings account w/t he money they owe you from having resubmitted the check (treating it as though you deposited it all over again), and then they can take it back out again. I don't know about brilliant! I am limited in space when we travel. We usually either take the little Focus, or the Pickup truck, which does have a back seat, but when you get cooler and suitcases in it, you just don't have much room. We do have an Expedition, but it usually stays home. It just mostly depends on what we physically feel like at the time of the trip as we both have back problems. I've also had a fracture boot on for the last 2 summers, which limits how easy it is to get in and out of cramped spaces. The biggest reason I think I came up with this idea, was that I wanted something I could put in my purse or a folder with my list of shops/addresses/phone numbers, for the yarn shops in the states we would be traveling in. And your reason for not buying was the very reason I wanted to know what patterns I had & what yarns/amounts they took! Mostly, I tend to buy sock yarn when we go, as it's easiest to pack and takes small quantities. And it makes a nice souvinier. These socks came from....... Or I'll buy a pattern I like, then buy the yarn at my local shop. She may not have the pattern, or I might not remember what it looked like or what company published it, but she can get the yarn or something comparable that I like. Still takes little space traveling. Now get scanning! Then you won't have any reason to pass up that gorgous yarn you see next time. I wouldn't think it would be a copy write violation. You are using it for your own reference, and not sharing or copying the complete pattern. I do copy the whole pattern for my use, tho, so if I loose it or spill something on it, I still have the original put in a safe place. I can also write on it and not mess up the original. I've even had patterns that suggested it for that reason, just not sharing. Tami

Stimulus checks are sent out, either direct deposit or mailed, according to the social security number. Mailed checks may take much longer. Many are not due to be sent out until the end of July.

It doesn't matter if you had to pay additional taxes, or you were due a refund. They get sent when your number is up, as long as you sent in your tax return on time.

Check with the IRS website. All we can do is say, it'll come eventually if you qualify!

Mine should have been deposited on May 2nd, but nothing has come in. My daughter finally found this site and I filled in the things they said I should do and it said my check should be mailed May 23rd and if it didn't come by June 20th, there was a number to call. I had to pay into the Federal and had asked for direct deposit:

However, I noticed it also said something about the IRS notice "you got in the mail" and I never received any notice, so I'm not holding my breath on getting a check, even though it says I should get one for $588.

I don't know about some of your situations, but what I found out for us was, we had done direct deposit but we used an online tax service and had them deduct their fee from our refund. They became a middle man so we technically did not have direct deposit with the government but with them. So we have to wait for the paper check. We were counting on the deposit too, and I didn't find this out until I saw the updated FAQ's at the irs.gov website last Friday.

A local stations said whether checks are direct deposited or mailed has to do with how you paid your fees to e-file your taxes.

Since you mailed a check, you will get a check mailed to you. Had you done an EFT to pay your taxes you would have received a direct deposit. So yes, you'll be getting a mailed check.

My check was deposited the 12th or the 13th and was due to be out by today at the latest as a direct deposit. If I had been getting a mailed check I wouldn't get it until July! I don't like using the Post Office if I don't absolutely have to! And it pays!

I used Turbo Tax and got my stimulus check direct deposited into my bank account on the 2nd, so I'm really confused by Angela's post???

If you used a service that didn't ask for add'l payment to e-file and instead deducted it from your refund, then you would get a paper check.

If you paid by cc (or another method besides deducting it from your refund) for the e-filing, you would still get direct deposit. That is how I've always pd for filing when using Turbo Tax - with cc card.

I don't think you can go by what the government has said (typical government snafu). My payment to the government was made directly from my bank account, and my stimulus check should have been deposited May 2nd, but they say I am getting a paper check to be mailed May 23rd.

It was an article I read where H&R Block was mentioned when it said if you had your taxes done by them the stimulus check would be going to their address.

We used Turbo Tax and should have had the check direct deposited on May 9. It still hasn't shown up and there is no information on the IRS website about our check. There was a news story here last night about 1500 checks being sent to the wrong accounts--now I just read about the Turbo Tax problems. I guess the old saying is true--don't count your chicks before they are hatched. We want to start on a bathroom remodel and that money sure would have come in handy but we'll do it without it for now.

I used TurboTax and received my "stimulus" direct deposit on 5/9 (my SSN ends in 24). The amount we received was almost exactly the amount I had to send to the State of Maine.

Our refund was direct deposited today. DH thought we'd get it last Friday according to his SS#.

I created and e-filed my return with Turbo-Tax software....and my rebate was direct deposited in my bank last week.

No problem with Turbo-Tax.

Saw a report the other day that some direct deposit checks were posted to the wrong accounts. Supposedly not that many accounts were involved......
