Pam, I'm hoping I can get a tetanus shot at one of the local pharmacies tomorrow. Plan B is an urgent care center, but those are farther away. I intended to get the shot a couple of weeks ago, before I got sick.

I'm sorry it happened to you too...but yeah...I had all that too, not quite as bad maybe. Your not alone is my message here...

I got 1 fever blister under my upper lip. Then the cold meds made me woozy and I went jogging and tripped over my own shoes, crashed, skinned my shin, my knee...palms of my hands, road rash from the pavement along my forearm....

About 8 weeks later....stomach flu.

I hope you decide to go to your reunion. You'll get some relief as time heals all. Take care of yourself!

Nicole, I think what you're saying is that I have stomach flu to look forward to. LOL

Start using Abreva on those cold sores. It dries them up in a hurry, although you will still have to go through the scabby stage. I have one on the corner of my mouth right now that I stopped early with Abreva.

OH....and did you fall off your porch in front of anyone? I crashed while a car load of my neighbors drove past...they stopped to see if I was alright...but I got up quickly and kept running to my embarrassment. :0) Man I was in pain!

It sure seems like the spring/summer colds are the worst. Maybe it's because they are antagonized by allergy season?

Have you tried any nasal/sinus rinses for your nose? It never ceases to amaze me what salt water can do. I linked to the one I use, I like it much better than the neti pot.

If you decide to try it, it's best to use the premeasured salt packets that come with it and use distilled water.

I'm pretty sure it's been less than 10 years, but definitely more than five. Five is the deciding number following an injury. My DH knew someone who died of tetanus after somehow getting injured from a cast iron frying pan, of all things.

Yes, I use a neti pot. I just realized I've had this same one for 27 years! This is the first year I've been using it with distilled water.

Heavens--how could I have forgotten about the tick bite?? I got another bite after that, earlier this month. This latest one was a nymph, so small I couldn't tell it was a tick until I looked at it under a strong magnifying glass.

I'm still dealing with tick issues. Based on symptoms like night sweats, which I have every night, and others, I'm fairly certain I have Babesiosis. Babesia is a parasite that invades the red blood cells. It is not familiar to most of the medical community, but it has invaded the Red Cross blood supply in the northeast, which is a serious concern and indicates how prevalent it is in our area. Tests for it are not only wildly expensive (my doctor ordered them, but I was quoted $3,000) but unreliable as well, so unless another way is found to deal with the problem it is likely to get worse.

Babesiosis is related to malaria, and the treatment includes a drug related to quinine. This, too, is wildly expensive ($1,030 for a small bottle), so I'm going to try a Chinese herb the folks at LymeNet recommend as an alternative.

Anyway, my immune system was already battling this, or something like it, when the chest cold (?) came along. I was already dragging; now I feel dragged out. :-)

One more thing about the ticks: It's increasingly clear that the deer tick situation bears more than a passing resemblance to a plague. Yet we have no vaccines, no cures, not even a consensus on how to treat it. Medical science is really going to have to step up to the plate. They seem to have their heads in the sand, and want the public to stick theirs in too.

I hate to add to the owies, but DH got his Tdap booster Friday (also the pneumonia shot). His upper arm is really sore today where he got the Tdap. So...no sleeveless dresses at the parties, eh?

I'm so sorry you haven't been feeling well for such a LONG time. Chronic stuff really wears a person down.

My ongoing 'trouble' is not being able to hear. Both ears are constantly clogged, and I have a lot of 'goop' in my head, leading to cough and sore throat. When I speak it sounds to me as though I am talking underwater. I'm going to try Zyrtek tonight. Maybe it's allergies.

Oh I hope you can make the reunion. I know how much you've been looking forward to it. Please feel well (and heal) by tomorrow (so you have time to get ready to go).

The tick problem has me paranoid. When my kids were little I worried about Rocky Mountain spotted fever. What ever happened to that? Now I'm deathly afraid of Lyme disease. I heard on the news that ticks are everywhere in abundance this year due to lack of acorns that mice feed on. Only 5% of ticks are infected with West Nile which was a worry here in PA. But get this 55% of ticks caught are positive for Lyme. Very very scary with two dogs, and we're always outside.

I agree, Alisande, and I wonder what it's going to take for them to get their heads out of the sand...the tick population is exploding and they are now in areas where they never were before.

Lily, I am with you. I had to force myself today to weed out an overgrown (with Bishop's Weed!!) shady, damp, flowerbed that had many years worth of leaf mulch on it (virtual tick heaven). I was going to ask my husband to do it, but then felt guilty.

Lily and Toby, I can recommend a lot of showers and a lot of laundry. Today I waded into my bed of tall flowers to pull some weeds, and then had to walk through an area thick with crown vetch......and then I went into the house and headed straight for the shower. Used a lot of shampoo on my head. Put the used clothing in the laundry. Started over.

This goes on a lot. :-)
