That's what I feared, thought they would look so nice where I planted them. There are 10 or 12 of the same kind, and I sure don't want to pot them up. I believe you about the east side. That is tough also one rose gets hardly any morning sun and bloomed very well. My Asian or longiforum? lilies (Regal and Easter) are NOT happy campers, lean like crazy, but do bloom, the Regals are dwindling, and I would move those if I had room somewhere else. One spot on the west I'm saving for a couple roses, but it may not get quite enough sun either for lilies, amazing how little sun some roses will tolerate. I just don't have enough sunny spots in my yard and would have to dig up more sod which I am not up to now. They should be moved in the fall because that is when I planted them. They were too expensive to give away on freecycle and don't want to trade for anything because I don't know where I'd put that either. Sigh. I should have been more realistic. I've always wanted to tier the whole back terrace, big dressed stone of some kind, it's enough out that lilies and a lot more would grow there, but don't want to start something that is going to be too much more work to maintain. Thanks for answering. Can't have everything in a small yard, surprised I got in as much as I did and still have a lot of lawn (which I like) left.

Natanya, You sound like such a hoot! Wish you were my neighbor. I've never tasted a daylily, but good for you. I saw someone asking for daylilies to trade for other plants on the plant exchange. They said they heard they were good "dipped in butter". I sort of cringed without even thinking... seemed canabalistic for a moment. I guess I am really too involved with my daylilies to consider them as food. I guess though that if we were starving, we'd sure be able to go to the garden and do some nibbling. I agree with all of you: they're definitely Hollywood Regency. And I should recharacterize my own style, which is probably better said to be "*in* transition" rather than transitional. (: I do like clean-lined pieces, and our DR set is very Mission; the adjacent LR combines Mission and Art Deco; and our bedroom, where these chairs would go, is your basic Recovering Graduate Student/Random Wedding Present room. So funky/eclectic would fit in just fine there. And there's just something about these chairs... The room is a long rectangle. The half without windows is for the bed (not a bed per se, but rather mattresses on a metal frame) and the dressers, which are mismatched yard sale finds. On the other side of the room, I'd like to create a sitting/reading area next to the windows, with a gorgeous view of the mountains (by far the nicest thing about the room!). We got a red and tan handloomed Peruvian folk-art rug for our wedding, and that's what we'll use to set off the seating area. Also on that side of the room, framing one window, are some slender dark walnut modern-styled bookcases. And then the part I'd like to replace: a heinously ugly loveseat that a friend gave us, also on that side of the room. I'd much rather find some reading chairs and an ottoman than a loveseat anyway; the room's not that big, and the loveseat makes it a pain to open and close the curtains and shades. I agree these chairs don't look too comfortable, so they're probably not my ideal reading chairs. But they'd be good for draping the bathrobe or pulling into the LR for extra seating. I love the idea of velvet, and maybe even the box-pleated skirt -- hadn't thought of that, cool idea, thank you! I agree that they're great in a pattern, but I don't want lots of patterns clashing in my bedroom, I don't think. What would you think of a tan velvet on the back and the bottom of the seat, and then the top, round seat cushion in something like this: Here is a link that might be useful: I'd use this pillow cover to reupholster the seat...

I like the adventure of finding things, though... takes me down aisles and past things that I suddenly realize that I just have to buy! :-) "I thought about all the carts that are taken and dumped elsewhere after people wheel their groceries home in them. They should have a GPS so the stores could easily retrieve them. I am always amazed at the number of people who think nothing of stealing carts from the stores." Most of the grocery stores here utilize a system that causes the wheels on the carts to lock immediately when they're taken beyond a yellow line that's painted around the perimeter of the parking lot. The first time I saw it in action, I thought the guy had a cart with a bad wheel! Try as he might, he could not get the thing to move forward past a certain point... Even if you pick the cart up and carry it over the line, it won't roll at all.
