Thanks Karyn, with the plumbago, the more sun the better. If they are in even partial shade, they will grow tall and lanky and the blooms will be few and far between. Those grown in full sun will stay compact and will cover themselves in blooms so much that you can barely see the foliage. Jim, They should have already bloomed, unless you are growing them in too much shade and they are stretching to get sunlight. They bloom sometimes while less than one foot tall. I've also never smelled any scent coming from my mirabilis jalapa. Maybe you have a different variety. Fool4Flowers, the Plumbago will actually come back from the roots even when temperatures reach the low 20s. We had a freeze in January of 2007 with temperatures in the low 20s for about a week and i thought the plumbago were gonners, but as soon as it warmed up, they came back. I even found TONS of seedlings from seeds that had accumulated throughout the years. Maybe if you mulch it heavily, they will come back in z8.

Any ducks hanging around here had better stay in the water, to keep their feet from freezing ... and paddle hard, to keep it from freezing over. Someone had erected a fishing tent on a pond near the road as I went home the other day ... neighbour said that they're doing that on the lake, and that a small pond should freeze deeper at the same time, due to fewer currents and less wind. Hope the operator didn't get all wet ... while walking on water. ole joyful
