New season of "Longmire" starts Monday night....

For those of you who are fans of Longmire, it starts again on Monday and I think they're re-running all the others this weekend on A & E.

The Glades is on before it, if you're interested in that one.

I love Glades and Longmire!! I have it on my calendar. Has anyone read the Longmire series of books? I have them on my list to order, and hope they are as good as the series.

If you are talking about the plastic mulched beds, no we laid that by hand. It takes some time, but we are getting faster. I hope the time spent now means less weeding in the future. First I till the beds out to at least 3 feet wide. Then I come back with a rake or a hoe and make a 4 to 6 inch furrow on each side of the bed. Then we set the roll of plastic on the bed roll it out a few feet and bury the edges and on the end. It works best to hold it down with a helper or a heavy concrete block. Then unroll further and stretch as you go. Fill the sides back in with the dirt. Then at the end of the rows, my helpers help me out. I hope this helps. I wish I had a mulch layer, but I need to get the tractor and tiller first. I did build a garden bedder/hiller that I used to make raised beds outside. I rented a tractor this year and it worked great. Jay

new seed snatchin season--anyone started yet?!!!

Anitabryk2, the best time to take cuttings of the crepe myrtle is right before they get ready to bloom. Before they have set buds, but certainly before they bloom. You can always try to root them now, and you could have some good luck. I am just saying optimum time. I would say that I am an absolute fanatic seed saver. But I NEVER snatch seeds at a plant nursery. I have a friend who owns and operates a nice nursery, and people steal his seed pods and even dig up plants from the flower beds out front! He sometimes depends on his plants making seed so that he can propagate them for plants to sell next year. It is hard for the 'little' nursery to compete with the box stores, and we are going to sorely miss them when they are gone. All that knowledge! All that advice! Sorry, didn't mean to rain on the parade. On the other hand, public gardens, post office offerings, whatever, are all fair game, as far as I know. Just take the time to research the plant you are sneaking up on so you know when the best time to snatch the seeds, and know also that some seeds are sterile, and will not germinate for love nor money! When I take a cutting, I try to get one that has just bloomed. That way, I can truley say that I am deadheading..... Janie

I haven't seen enough of the new shows this season to notice yet, but I'm sure you're right Flamey. It would be a darn good time for some of the actors to get a "job" done and have time to recoup. I'm just sick to see what some of them have done to themselves. Those Sturgeon lips and plastic looking cheeks are horrid.

Sorry, should have included a link. http://www.sweetpotatoplant.com/shop/covington/ We've been using them (Steele) for years with no problems. You have to get into larger quantities for the price to get good (100 or so). There are also some special deals that allow you to mix and match quantities and types on the specials page that are nice. Here is some info on Covington from HortScience Magazine. If you scroll down a bit there is a side by side comparison between Beau's and Covington's. http://hortsci.ashspublications.org/content/43/6/1911.full Tom

I had already set the dvr for the Longmire season but didn't get Glades set. I really dislike the girlfriend on Glades, I thought last season they were going to replace her. The way she talks she sounds whiney all the time it's distracting. Maybe she will leave town for good this time.

I agree, raven, the female is very whiny and her character runs hot and cold all the time, poor Jim never knows what he's gonna get from her on a minute-by-minute basis. And the way they tried to hide her in-real-life pregnancy last season was very distracting and the plot change to cover it up didn't help the series any.

I'm getting ready to read the series of books about Longmire. Just started reading the King and Maxwell books by David Baldacci in preparation for that new show starting in June on TNT.

I found Longmire in 2012 when it had already been on for a few weeks. I've taped them all the past couple of wks, have 4 more to watch before Monday night.

When they first started showing a series of any shows, they made 30 some episodes a year. (Example: I Love Lucy started with 35 a year. By the time it ended, there were 27.) It has slowly gone down through the 20s. But I find it ridiculous that they only make 10 shows now for the entire year.

Looking forward to the second season. I read all the Longmire books, and really enjoyed them. I need to set the Tivo to record Glades as well. We also loved Mcleoud's Daughters.
