If she heard something pop or tear I hope they did a thorough MRI on her knee. Sounds like she may need surgery? Why did they cast her?

So sorry to hear about your sister. It's hard to believe that someone would just step over her and continue walking down the isle. I'm going to try to give her the benefit of the doubt and think that she didn't realize your sister was in pain, thought she was just working and in her own little world, she just continued on. If nothing else, at least she said excuse me. I hope your sister is doing well.

I talked to Terrie last night. She isn't in a cast, but a brace. She sis get a shot of cortisone, which she said hurt a he!! of a lot more than the injury. In time the knee will be OK and she is off work for a while. My main point of the post was a person so callus that they wouldn't even stop to inquire about the person, but just step over a person laying on the floor. It makes me remember a couple instances in the news where a person is being assaulted on the street, people can see it happening from their windows or vehicles.....and don't even call 911, much less help out themselves. Are we becoming a heartless, uncaring population?? Dottie

I really wonder if she just didn't realize what was going on and thought the person on the floor was doing some kind of job or something...I really do no believe that we are a heartless uncaring people...at least not the ones I know. I'm going with georgysmom and believe that she didn't know your sister was hurt.

I'd bet anything the customer didn't know your sis was hurt. I've seen workers at those big stores sprawled out on the floor reaching for things on the back low shelf. Stocking is hard work, so I bet the customer thought your sister was doing the same thing.

I think Oakleyok hit it on the nail. I doubt the woman thought your sister was hurt.

Well, if you call writhing on the floor in pain, working, yeah she though Terrie was working.

With people's attitudes nowadays it's hard to decide whether to interfere or mind your own business. Not saying that I wouldn't have accessed the situation and tried to help, but who knows all the circumstances. But I hope she'll be okay.

I thought of you when I ws at WM today and saw a worker sprawled on the floor arrnging a bottom shelf

If someone were to just step over me in that situation I'd be hard-pressed to refrain from tripping them.

And the person would have to be pretty ignorant, self-preoccupied and stupid to think she was working there flopping on the floor like a catfish on the beach, which totally explains it for me. Not even an "excuse me"? Plus I'm not exactly sure that I'd believe she was taking up the whole aisle looking like she was working. Stoopid and/or self-centered are more like it. To not ask or say something isn't in line with most people I run into. As a customer in a store I'm often asked "where's the ______?" and they get goofy look when I say "Well, I don't work here..." and if I have an idea I might add "but I'd guess it's _________".

There's so many selfish people around, it's sad.

I was in Safeway a few years ago looking for band aids or something. A woman in the aisle started having a seizure. She fell down and was slamming her head into the floor. We were right in front of the pharmacy. I called 911 on my cell, got down on the floor and held her head in my lap as best I could so she didn't crack her head open. Pharmacy manager came up and stood behind us until the EMT's arrived. Never lifted one finger to help. Not one other person offered assistance either. The girl had some bloody saliva coming from her mouth, so I had blood all over me. I asked the pharmacist if I could use the bathroom to clean up. He told me the bathrooms weren't for public use. *shaking head*
Never did hear what happened to her.

Wow...the incredible lack of concern and caring from the customer just amazes me...I hope your sister is recovering ok and so sorry she had to experience this...

If she had been able, she would have kicked that womans butt that day. By the way, Sis's nickname is Taz, for Tazmanian Devil, nuf said. LOL She is doing pretty good, Not much keeps her down. Dottie

I had to laugh when you called Sis "Taz". One of my favorite cartoon characters has always been old Taz!

Obviously strength runs in that family! So did you two butt heads growing up or were you more of a tag-team? Sheesh, teaming up the Irresistable Dottie Force and the Immovable Taz Object could make the Road Warriors run! ;)

Oh, and tell Sis that it's a good thing that the crazy customer wasn't in a Lil Rascal. She'd have to clean tire tracks off her clothes without so much as a beep-beep.

No disrespect Dot (I noticed you only thanked the people who agreed with you)...but I might have done the same thing.

Heaven knows, I struggle and stagger around just trying to get up from my hands and knees when I'm in the garden, along with a few grunts. But that doesn't mean I've seriously injured myself.

Did you sister scream, was she moaning or sobbing uncontrollably or just adjusting herself down on the floor with facial expressions which might not have been noticed?

I've seen clerks lying on the floor wriggling around trying to pull cans out from the back of a shelf, or count something way at the back.

When I was younger, I dislocated my kneecap doing the splits in the middle of a dance class. I popped it back in place and limped to the back of the room to sit down. No one even noticed - I didn't make a sound. In fact, the teacher wasn't aware anything was amiss until my knee started to swell.

So, I have to agree with Oakleyok. My thoughts exactly - I doubt the woman actually noticed there was pain involved - just movement, and attributed it to someone stocking or counting a bottom shelf.

Oh, forgot to add...I was in a hip to ankle cast for 8 weeks.

Friend Cynic....you are so funny, besides being one of the most well-informed person I know. Sis.....Taz, is 12 years younger than i am, so because of that, we didn't really bump heads when we were young, and as adults, although there are some things in her life I don't agree on, I keep my mouth shut because #1. it wouldn't make a difference and start and argument, and #2. It is really none of my beeswax. She works at the Target near St. Louis Park/Excelsior BLVD. One funny story about her job. A guy came in looking for a product, and she really went out of her way to help him. He later called the store and complimented her for her helpfulness and attitude. At a employees meeting the manager told about that phone call. The guy didn't get her name, but described he as a short, dark haired......portly....woman. Guess that described her well enough because everyone knew who he meant. When Terrie told me about it she said.....PORTLY! who in the he!! uses the word PORTLY, any more. LOL I love my Sis. We had a brother, but lost him to cancer about 10 yrs ago. Dottie

I'm sorry but if I had been the woman who stepped over your sister,#1 I would have at least stopped to "notice" if the woman on the floor was stocking or if there was some other reason she was laying in the floor! #2 Who just "steps over" a person laying in the floor of a store?Go around maybe but not step over! I can't believe anyone would just step over someone regardless of whether they thought they were stocking or not!
Dottie-I'm sorry that your sister hurt herself and hope she is better soon.I'm also sorry there are so many people with negative reactions to the situation after you explained in detail what happened.In my mind stepping over "anyone" laying in the floor for whatever reason is just not right!

Well tie me to an anthill and fill my ears with jelly! AH, yes I've noodled my way through those back streets to get there quite a few times. Haven't been there for a while though but I like that store. One of the reasons I've started liking Target again. But you'd better tell your sis that their electric carts need to be replaced and pronto or I'm sending Hot Rod Dottie to play demolition derby with them and I don't care how many doors you take out in the process! ;) But one thing's for certain. It's hard enough to drive those carts over the floor mats so she wouldn't risk getting "back-tracks".

Off topic, I know, but WTH. One time I was there I was picking up some cat litter and a few other things. They had a great deal going on the litter and I grabbed two of the 35# buckets and put it in the front of that pitiful cart. There was a young guy down the aisle and he came quickly and asked if I was doing any more shopping or anything and I said yes I had a few more things to get, whereupon he grabbed the two buckets and said "Here, let me take these up front to the checkouts for you and you will have the cart open so it doesn't hurt anything. There's not much room in there. And when you're ready, just let me know or let someone know and we'll help you to your car with it!" I was shocked! Mixed feelings though... Very kind, no question, but... Did I REALLY look that helpless???

I can't tell you how ,many times I've embarassed myself by asking someone "Do you work here?" When it's obvious they don't.

Good morning Cynic....maybe that guy thought with all that weight of those pails of litter, he was afraid you might do a reverse wheelie with the cart. Or maybe he was making room in the cart so you could buy oodles and oodles more.

I told Taz (my Sis) about tripping the offending woman and she said Target has a company policy about abusing customers. Go figure, LOL She is doing much better after taking most of the week off and resting the knee.

Jannie, most of these big store's employees wear a "uniform" like at Target it is tan pants and red shirts.
