.....I went out the door this morning, and I tripped over something on my door step.I literally tripped. I picked up a package that was left my the mailman this morning. The sender was Ann T.Look what I recieved from Ann. It is absolutely beautiful Ann!!! I just love it !!! It is a "Handmade Wooden Cheese Board"and one of the Beautiful Cards that Ann makes.

That was so very nice of you Ann. Thanks so very, very, much, and I will alway's think of you when I use it. I think this picture shows off the different grains in the wood better....

Even Kiko can't take his eyes off it.....

I shall cherish it forever.This board will defineatly be something I shall pass onto one of my girls. I just have to decide which one. Thank you once again Ann !!! You are truly one special person !!! Diana55

We had some rain, as well (over an inch), a little over a week ago, but then those darned winds come in and dry everything out again. While I'm wishing for more rain, I'm mesmerized by the Camellia blossoms, and clapping my hands at the first Cape honeysuckle blooms! Repotted some Zinnias that looked like they needed a makeover, and the buds are opening toward the spring-like sun. I'm a mum-oholic this year, so I've attempted to find my creative side by potting them up with attractive companions in attractive pots. They still appear to be attractive. Repotted the Cyclamen, which has been growing and blooming since last spring (even in the heat of summer!)....and I still can't believe it. Also repotted the Kalanchoe Mom got me for Christmas last year. The hummingbirds have returned to fight over the 'Anthony Parker' sage and the feeders, and the flies are fighting over the Rescue! fly catchers and struggling to get out. HA! Gotcha, you little nasties! I just have to make sure I don't get too close to the catchers, since the scent is highly un-Spring-like. *gag* Happy gardening! Brenda

I hope they are not goners. If it is any consolation, a lot of mine haven't broken dormancy yet or appeared above ground. I don't get desperate enough to dig up the plant entirely or de-pot it to check for rotten roots until June. I have lost more to waterlogged roots than to cold. Last Fall I planted some pots in large tub-like pots where the round was too difficult to dig or roots would have to compete with trees or shrubs. I put wire fencing around the pots or group of pots & stuffed with fallen tree leaves. Then I put cardboard boxes over the top to absorb some melting snow. But after I uncovered the pots for the Spring we had a whopper of a snowstorm mid April. Until this last week, only 2 of my above ground pots showed any life, And only about half of the inground ones. I noticed that the garden soil I had topped the pots with was rather hard as it dried out, I scratched about half inch deep on the surface and a tad deeper if there was any old stem still left after the fierce winds we had this year. Found a few coming up this way and a few more appeared within a few days. I had learned from planting lilies in pots that they would be less likely to rot if the container was filled to the brim with soil than if any space was left for water to accumulated. Yesterday I decided that the still no-shows might be strugling to get through the top layer, which was much tougher clay than I had thought. So I scratched deeper and removed the now broken up clay top layer and found a few more green new shoots, A few still weren't visable after digging down 4" or so, but I had freed them from the clay and will wait a week or so before trying the next strategy, whatever than might be. I had noticed a few weeks ago that one, Avant Gard, had not had it's inground pot completely filled in and in the half inch of open space some snow melt was accumulated. I have a feeling that this one might have gotten root rot from this. Didn't think of putting more dry soil on top to try to absorb the moisture. Will have to wait & see. Lesson learned - mix more compost in top layer when filling in the pots. Will do this for new ones and in returning soil to the late sleepers that I just uncovered. Marie in ME

Glad you got it fixed without a hassle. Sounds to me like maybe your builder is right and this really is the BEST granite fabricator in your area... and they just have an incompetent (possibly new) employee. Truth to tell, after all my experiences with various construction trades, I am now MUCH more likely to hire one after hearing a recommendation that says something like "well, they screwed up X, but then they owned up to their mistake and fixed the problem with no hassles at no additional cost to me" than I am to hire a company where all the recommendations basically say "everything went perfectly." The first recommendation tells me that the company has integrity. The second just tells me that the company only gave me references where the job went well... and even the most incompetent companies can occasionally do a job right. Mistakes happen in construction. IMHO, a company with the integrity to own up to its mistakes and fix them without a hassle IS the BEST you can get! Obviously tho, unless the company hires employees that are reasonably competent, the company won't be able to stay in business very long. So, for the sake of everybody else living in your area who will someday need granite installed, let's just hope that the template guy who did such crummy work on your granite either learns his lessons (or is fired) before he puts his company out of business!

Kimberly, Just checking in to see if you had any news. I was happy to see Dave and Trish comment on your thread. I have seen both of them in the other forum and they always seem to have such great advice. yeah for GW community!! I had to tell you that I shed a few tears over your post above, where you mentioned you homeschool, etc. I so understood what you mean when you said sometimes night seems so dark. And bless your heart when you said you thought maybe you weren't the person you had believed yourself to be. We all have those moments in life where we feel that way. It seems you are being tested and tried. I am sorry for the discouraging time you are having. BUT, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. I just believe that somehow, someway, good things will happen for you, a good person. I am keeping you in prayer, and will put you on our prayer requests at church this weekend. Keep looking up. I know your new home is not where you are laying up your treasures. You deserve to have space to raise and school your children. And you need not apologize for the space in the home or the amount of property. God gives good things. If He led you to it, He will lead you thru it. Have faith. Stay strong. Try every avenue. Continue to pray for wisdom as you seek a resolution. Have faith and trust that God will make a way. He still sits on His throne! Hugs to you. We're all rooting for you (and I'm praying for you. Beautiful gift Ann! I love the grain of the wood and the smoothness. I know it's meant to be used, but it's also very easy on the eyes as well:-) Enjoy it Diana!

YAY! That Mr Wolf up in Canada really makes some beautiful wood boards. I got one that he made and I feel it is extra special because Ann picked it out for me.

The one Ann sent you has a nice shape and the wood grain is just beautiful. I use mine all the time.

That is one beautiful board, but I especially like the look that your pup is giving it, sort of like "will you please put something to EAT on that board". LOL

Yes Ann.....Our mail system seems to be faster than ever. Oh I will use it Ann, but I hate to, because I'm scared of ruining it, but I will use it, thats for sure. I sure like the way the grains run through the wood. I will be making a cheese ball to put on it first. I think a nice Cheese Ball will compliment it nicely.( Thanks for the idea Dixiedog) You really didn't have to do that Ann, but I just love it, and I shall look after it well.Thank you once again !!! Lovely looking board! Diana use it, that's what it is meant for. A few cuts add character and a touch of mineral oil will keep it beautiful forever.
