Where do the soap dispenser, instant hot and disposal switch go?
Comments (9)It is personal preference! But, here's my setup: To determine which side to put the SD & GD air switch with a single bowl sink, first, decide which side to put the SD. (1) If you have a soap bottle now, which side is it on? Most likely that's the side you're more comfortable w/having the SD & that's the side to use. (2) If you don't have a soap bottle now or you're not sure you have the bottle on the correct side for you, then imagine yourself washing your hands (go through the motions at the sink to make it more real!). Which side do you naturally want to go to to pump the soap? That's the side to use. For us, we put our left hand under the dispenser to collect the soap and use our right hands to adjust water temp. For us, it worked out better to have the SD on the left...so we put the GD switch on the right...even though our GD is in the left, large bowl. Once you've decided which side to put the SD: If you only have the 3 (faucet, SD, air switch), I recommend putting the airswitch on the opposite side of the faucet from the SD. If you also have an instant hot water, filtered water tap, or other (like side spray), then put the GD on either side...it's so low-profile that it's location is not much of an issue. Comments (10)I have always had soap dispensers as I wash my hands many many times while preparing food and would not have a kitchen without one. Much is written about cleaning hands and surfaces often to avoid cross contamination and food borne illness. Our soap dispenser at our 30" sink is placed 10" left of the faucet, mostly because I am right-handed. If my hands are dirty from handling meat or chicken, I place my left hand under the dispenser and press the pump down with my right wrist. I always wipe the faucet and soap dispenser down when I clean the sink. I do not want to handle a bottle of soap with dirty hands nor do I want to keep it on the counter....See MoreWhich looks better please placement of soap dispenser and air switch?
Comments (19)Thank you all for your input, such a wide range of answers. I forgot to think about hole placement when countertop fabricator was here as I should have had him cut out just the center hole and then place the faucet in to then see how far out the other holes should go. Intead I just looked at his pencil marks of eight inches out from the middle hole which looked like a good amount forgetting about faucet handle sticking out. (I don't like the accessories way out to the side). Anyway live and learn. Although the idea of turning it so the knob is in the front seemed like a good idea which many of you suggested I just don't like the way it looks with my faucet. I ended up putting the soap dispensor on the right as it's far enough away that I don't bump it when using the faucet handle and will be easy to althernate from faucet to soap. Also since one views the kitchen from the right side it has the matching hexagonal base as the faucet so it looks pretty whereas there was not a matching airswitch. I did get a good laugh from the person that said I was over thinking it as I am very glad they are not inside my head b/c over-thinking and ruminating about each and every decison during this rennovation is the only process I know. Glad it's almost over....See MoreBuehl
