Soap dispenser or no soap dispenser?
Comments (36)Can anyone recommend a dispenser with a LONG spout? The one we have now (Price Pfister) has an utterly useless 2" spout. I have found a 3 7/8" spout, also 3 1/2", but am wondering if there are any that are longer. The new sink is 10" deep. We weren't going to get a new soap dispenser, but after reading this thread, I thought, "I don't want ugly bottles on my new granite!" I could do a rack mounted on the sink cabinet door, but I think the dispenser is neater :-) It just needs a long spout so it can actually squirt dish soap into the pots, instead of dribbling down the side of the sink. Will definitely get a NeverMT--so glad that I heard of it here!...See MorePlacement of soap dispenser and air switch on granite counter?
Comments (10)Lexluthor, it's not a stupid question. I didn't know what one was until I encountered the term here--and then I had to have one (two, actually!). An airswitch is an alternative to a wall switch. It's the little button on the counter to the right of the faucet in my pic. In most cases here, it's to operate the garbage disposal, although it could be used for just about anything with an on/off switch. Most people who use them like not having the clutter of a wall switch on their backsplash, or in the case of a garbage disposal in an island, having an easily accessible place for the switch. I have them at both sinks and love them....See MorePlacement of Air Switch, Air Gap, spray and soap dispenser
Comments (4)Ditto to Breezygirl's point #2. I am linking a thread on why you don't need an air gap, and/or if your Code requires one, what to do about that (i.e. substitute the soap dispenser after the inspector leaves). Also, are you sure you want a side spray? A faucet with a built-in spray is better IMHO. With a side spray, you have to hold down the handle to keep it on spray, you will get less water pressure than you would with a faucet and built-in spray, and side sprays tend to break faster than faucets with built in spray. Also, it would be nice to have one less hole in your countertop, and one less hole to clean around. So, if you take my advice, you are left with 3 holes: the faucet (if it's a single-hole faucet), the air switch and the soap dispenser. I would put the soap dispenser on the left and the air switch on the right. Don't put the soap dispenser too far in the corner - there are people on this forum who have done that, and don't like it. I have my soap dispenser 8.5" (measuring on-center) from my single-hole faucet. Here is a link that might be useful: Thread about Air Gaps...See Morefaucet, soap dispenser placement?
Comments (2)I'm guessing you have a single sink? Here's our setup. Faucet in the centre, sidespray halfway between faucet and right sink edge, soap dispenser 1/4 of the way in from left sink edge (if you divide space between faucet and left sink edge in half, then divide the left half again, that's where we put the dispenser.) Robin, for your unique setup I would recommend: - Faucet in the center - Handle midway between faucet and 3/4 in from right sink edge (Midpoint between my faucet and sidespray) - Soap dispenser 1/4 of the way in from left sink edge (where my soap dispenser is) - Instant hot 1/4 of the way in from right sink edge. Best thing to do though, after your sink is installed, is to do an actual "mock-up" with your actual faucet pieces. Have a handy friend hold them up in various places to see what they'll look like....See MoreRoberta K
