Now I know why I only have 1 Furkid!

We just got back from the vet for yearly shots, flea and heartworm protection. Prices have gone up!!! There is no way I could afford to do this for more pets. Jaggs will just have to remain an only furchild. He can bond with his new cousin Buddy!

He's usually OK after his shots, just a little lethargic so we'll skip the park tonight I think. He's curled up on the sofa now.

Time he started to earn his keep! If I could just teach him to do laundry or vacuum!

I just took my dog for her rabies vaccination - $112!!! And that's not even distemper,parvo, flea drops and the other medications she needs!

WOW.....thats expensive.When I took my 98lb choc lab for all his shots,and the prohart shot for heartworms,the blood test to make sure he was negative of heartworms,the exam,cleaning his ears and cutting his nails it was only $135.00.I am so grateful to our small town vet,whom I love dearly and is so good w/Drake.Thank you Dr.Danny.

I have half a dozen grey owls and they don't look at all like that first photo. But they are only 7 years old. I was under the impression that 4'-6' in height was to be expected with a wing/bat shape. Much more flatter and broad than the photo. They are around 4'-5' right now and are flat and spreading. This year is the first year they have had berries, which are very attractive.

OK - I took a couple of pictures - I just have to get them from camera to computer. This is the only fig on the small tree - it is a breba. When I get the memory card reader located I'll upload the pics. BTW, my Hunt is ripening a few too. That tree looks like it will be a fig maker. Birds are robbing it but it still has 8 or 9 figs in various stages on it.

Karen no problem. You put it on after first egg. Any box would do. In fact it's a big joke about the cheese-its but I love them and since it worked so well the first time about 4 or 5 years ago I won't use anything else! LOL What happened is I had blues and eggs in a box way in the back of my yard (first nest of the year) and all of a sudden I heard that dreaded sound. I had planned to make one out of wood with sides on it but hadn't got around to it yet. They came the earliest I'd ever seen that year and my husband is a carpenter so of course we always have wood around but hardly ever have any tools around here. I had to leave that day and so I had to come up with something quick. All I had was duct tape and that was my biggest box. I have had the same one last 2 nestings with no problem but I put a lot of tape on the inside of all the corners and those front corners too. I just screw it to the sides of the top of the box like you would with the mono fishing line for hosps and maybe tape the top and sides down to the box or you can tack it on with finish nails driven part way in and just bend them over or use thumbtacks. Make sure you have at least 2 1/2" of clearance so they can get in. I completely cover the hole so mine come down pretty far but I haven't had any casualties since I started using these. Karen just make sure they can figure it out. Sometime young birds will have a problem with this BUT eventually they always find their way in. The couple this year was not very bright. I had to take it off the second morning so she could lay her next egg and I put it right back on when she was done. She got it the third day. My Tres have been vigilant enough to not need one but one lady on Bet's site has used a guard with Tres successfully. I just think it kind of goes against their grain. You know the way they look out of the hole for each other and change places so fast. You know what I'd do with those wrens? I'd take a piece of cardboard and tack it to the front of the box covering the hole and run some duct tape down the outside corners so it looks like the guard from the front. I do this with empty boxes in my yard to try to teach them when they see this it means no entry just in case you have a persistent bird it may help next year. Hope it helps Cathy

Live_Wire_Oak...is that interior or exterior/overall width? I'm asking, b/c when we were looking for a sink, our KD told us the overall width (i.e., exterior width) of the sink we chose should be no more than 1/2" narrower than our sink base. So, a 36" sink base meant a sink no wider than 35-1/2". We ended up with sink that had an exterior/overall width of 35-1/8" wide that fit in our sink base with no alterations needed. Our cabinet walls are 1/2". Based on my experience, it appears if you wish to install a sink w/no alterations to your sink base, then your sink should have an exterior width of no more than: Width of Sink Base - 2 x Width of Cabinet Walls (or, no wider than the interior opening of the cabinet...but if you don't have your cabinets yet, you cannot measure that!) Additionally, you need to know three other things: How thick is your subway tile + hardibacker or similar board behind it if that board is mounted on top of drywall and is not the wall itself. Faucet dimensions...you need to know what faucet you're getting if you want to be certain it will fit. Some faucets need several inches behind them to work properly...handles that go back, wide stems, etc. So, check your chosen faucet's specs to see how much space you need behind the faucet. Also, if you have an undermount sink, the faucet holes cannot be drilled right at the back of the sink. You will need a little more than 1" b/w the sink & the faucet hole. The width of the stem of the faucet will vary depending on the faucet. Window (I know, you have no window, but others might): If there's a window behind your sink If window is not counter-height (~36"), the sill height & depth If window is counter-height, and has no sill, the depth of the window well If window is counter-height, and has a sill, the depth of the window well and the depth & height of the sill (may be negligible height-wise, but do need to be sure it won't impact the amount of space available for the faucet hole.) CalypsoChick...if you look at this picture, the measurements, you can see the overall width of 35-1/8". It was narrow enough to fit in a 36" wide sink base with 1/2" walls with no alteration. Notes about your other sink choices: First, though, you say you have a 24" sink base, but you really appear to have a 30" sink base...you need to confirm that with your KD or GC (or whoever did the final design and ordered or will order the cabinets) b/f you can decide on a sink. Meanwhile... I just went to the vet today. He did a annual check up and rabies and it was $94.00. This is my new vet. My old vet was $400.00 everytime I went in to see her. I did a search for vets on www.yelp.com and found a great inexpensive vet.

Oh yeah - food. In the old days I would struggle to get a $15 bag of food in the car. I must be getting a lot stronger.

My latest vet bill was for 3 of Sam's teeth taken out, 2 cysts on his back stitched, a lump removed and biopsied. I started writing a check and then ended up putting it on the credit card. $828!
The biggest part was the biopsy - who knew they would send it off to the University of PA? It was a fatty tumor and I thought it was and the vet thought it was too. $128 just for that.

When we lose one of the dogs - there will be none replacing it.

A couple of weeks ago I went to the vet to buy a 6 month supply of heartworm preventative and flea preventative for my three dogs and it was almost $500.

I took the Great Dane today to get his yearly shots and tests and it was another $85. I had planned to take all three dogs today, but will wait for another monthly paycheck to come in before I take the other two. They aren't due for the annual stuff til June 11. I just did Luther's today because he is going to obedience school in about a week ( more money ) and I wanted to get his vet stuff out of the way.

That's why we have only the one peke! I would love to have several, but the vet bills are high. We got some heartworm meds through the mail, it was cheaper than buying them from the vet. I keep him in a puppy cut with a pet clipper, all grooming is done at home. We save where we can, but good dog food, shots, tests, and routine care cost quite a bit these days.

I have also started grooming Jaggs at home. It was just so expensive and I was never really thrilled about the cut he got anyway. I use a pet clipper and just do a puppy cut as well. He looks good and I get covered in hair!

We have a vet here in town that comes to one of the local "Feed and Grain" stores...He gives the shots for...it seems to me I paid $7.00...LOL..but it could have been $12.00...Can't remember for sure which one it was..but I know it is cheap.
Last summer I took my Yorkie there...she tried to bite him.

Well now- come to my house. 5 dogs and 8 cats. It runs me about $100.00 per month just for flea meds. We have a vet that travels like Pattico so each round of shots is about $12.00 per animal.

The food prices have gone up considerably. But, they are all very worth it to me and if I have to get a second job to support them then so be it. I will say this, no more additions. The Inn is full!

Ouch! Gotta take our three babies in one of these days. I can see it's gonna hurt! Sounds like I can expect a fair increase from last year. I'm thinking maybe I want to ask what the charges will be ahead of time and take one at a time if necessary.

Now I know why I only have 1 Furkid!
