Tissue cultured plants can be made virus, blight, and bacteria free in the process of propagation. However, if a nursery gets virus free tissue cultured trees and puts them next to ones that have the virus, then, they get it, too. I also see people on here complaining that it takes forever for TC figs to produce, or that they never do, or that you can take a cutting from one and the cutting will produce before the original tree. Another thing people complain about with TC plants is that they are tiny. They start out as a few cells. I have bought TC muscadines and the vines were about the size of a matchstick and the roots were in a bag with much less potting medium than a sandwich bag would hold. But they caught up with the same variety purchased at the same time in half gallon pots within 3 months. I have no reason to believe my fig trees are virus free, so I'm not worried about it. But if I was starting out, I would have nothing but TC plants guaranteed to be virus free.

Thank you, Noss...I have the Fig in her own 10" pot, in garden soil,, sunken into the big terracotta planter that is also filled with soil. The whole thing is buried in mulch. It keeps the figs roots cool , moist and happy in this horrid heat and dry wind....The plants surrounding the fig pot are just vinca vine cuttings that rooted in there last year, and a few daylilies. I will take the fig out of the urn for winter, and store in the garage or basement.... cheers, laura aka "gplainshoya"

Oh thanks Dennis i really enjoy taking pictures its a lot of fun. You know when i joined little more than 5 years ago people seemed surprised and would say you grow figs near Chicago? But then i was not taking pictures and by the time i did more and more members starting posting and it no longer is a big deal about figs growing in my area nor Mich or Canada. Course some of us cheat and grow in pots. ; ) My Edible Lanscaping Sals was sweetest this season but has fallen down my list in favor of some others cause i favor a more rich or berry tasting fig not overpowered by the sweet. My Sana Cruz Dark has a unique sweetness to it but thats about all the flavor it offers so i cut up for scion and put it up this winter to help offest some cost of growing my plants. This season my Violet de Bordeaux was to me my best tasting fig nudging out my Hardy Chicago . Ronde i get to taste maybe 5 days or less there getting ripe now. My Madeira Black i had figs last season no ripe but tree was young and this season when i was wheeling all my trees in and out of garage onto driveway to get a head start they all were doing well Madeira started opening its buds at 30 inches tall and then Bam they just wilted and the main trunk dies to about 6 inches so it got set back a full season or more . Main trunk did nothing and it sent a shoot from it at soil level now about 10 inches tall . Next season if it survives garage storage i wont take it out as early in the high 40s like my others. I really hope my Ronde is not all sweet and not much flavor cause its my fastest young juvenile in yard. Time will tell with that as others. So sorry for long answer el.sals sweetest and i hope not too many more i have are not going to be just like it but i keep it for all these years cause its very reliable produces very well but 1 of these is enough for sweetness for me. Thanks everyone for compliments for its always appreciated. Axier i think i mention before my wife is from Spain. I was out eating some figs of other trees today and looked at Ronde and saw several smaller leaves 3/4 up tree that look different and like yours as well Axier. Yes it only a juvenile like my Grise Olivette the leaves are big and sure to change. The parent tree of mine is from Baud. The fertilizer i use is 24.8.16 miracle grow at half strength. Oh for Rafed if you ever see Adriano again politely tell him the Santa Cruz Dark is not a breba only plant per his listing. I have a UcDavis that i propagated myself and matches descriptions on other sites i visited and now in 2nd full season is ripening main crop this year - early this season the few breba on it drop off just like my other plants do here. On other site im documenting this process and first one is almost ripe and others soon to follow. We dont have that fig wasp here to pollinate but its always welcome. I may post a picture on this site also . ; ) Martin
