Someone earlier today posted about making a small garden for their children. I attempted to answer and got kicked off Garden Web. Not sure what I did wrong. Anyhow, if that person reads this-here's my thoughts on letting children have a small garden: When I was about 10 years old, my Dad made a garden in our backyard. He grew tomatoes, poyatoes, cukes, beans of all kinds. In May he hoed one row and gave me two packs of seeds and told me they were mine. I planted the seeds-lettuce and radishes. I tended my row daily, weeding and watering. I had a crop within weeks. I was so proud of my Salad Garden. I picked my lettuce leaves and radishes. One day Mom showed me how to make a salad dressing of water, vinegar, oil, salt pepper and sugar and some spices from her kitchen. I proiudly served it to my family with dinner that night. I can still rememver the crunch of those home-grown radishes. And all it took was one row and two packages of seeds! I've been interested in vegetable gardening ever since, nearly 50 years!
