Wolf gas rangetop-easy to clean??

Am going to remodel my kitchen and am looking at either a 30" or 36" Wolf rangetop. Wonder about the ease of clean-up on the sealed burner unit, and with the griddle on the 36" as well. Would appreciate any input. Thanks!

I had a non-sealed and loved it as I just put foil on the pull out drawer and it was super easy to clean. Every couple of weeks I took it apart and cleaned the burners and took the top off etc. I think the unsealed really can help in that you can take things apart and really get in there. However, I have not had a sealed rangetop so I am not sure as to how those are with cleaning. Just thought I would mention my experience in case it helped.

I have the open burners and I wouldn't call it anything close to super easy to clean! :-) LOL We have 8 burners, multiple cooks of all ages, and use our rangetop so much, that cleaning issues are bigger for us than a lot of families, though.

From what I can tell, you just don't get a powerful gas stove and expect it to stay pristine. The well-loved and often-used look just has to be OK... Besides the flame configuration, I chose the open burners because of all the nightmarish cleaning stories I read here about sealed burner rangetops. Since having mine I haven't met anyone in person who thinks their gas rangetop is 'easy clean,' whether it's open or sealed. I think they just each have their own issues. I think the Wolf open burner rangetop might look nicer if it didn't have the shiny black burner pans, and instead had cast iron like the BlueStar, since I find cast iron more forgiving when it comes to cooked on spots..They blend as on cast iron cookware. I can't remember if the sealed burner Wolfs have the same shiny black porcelain coated finish, but mine has non-shiny spots that don't allow it to look clean or new any more. Hardly anything gets to the slide out catch pan underneath, and it cleans SO easily, that I don't worry about wrapping it with foil.

It was a bit of a PITA and some trial and error, cleaning our Wolf range's black enamel burner pans, but now it takes me a lot less time and effort, For a real thorough cleaning, I'll remove the pans, one at a time, and scrub in the sink, using a blue scrub sponge, some dish soap (I use Palmolive) and some BKF (Barkeepers Friend). If necessary (for baked in grease spots or high-sugar type residue), I'll spray the pan(s) with Dawn Power Dissolver (spray gel), let sit for anywhere from 15-30 minutes, and then scrub. Dry with a lint-free dishtowel, and replace on the range. For spot cleaning, or cleaning when the pans are super-dirty, I spray with an alcohol-water mixture I mix up (with lavender essential oil, though others can be used, for scent as well as anti-bacterial properties), and wipe dry with a microfiber cloth or paper towel. Obviously, don't spray alcohol when burners are in use! I've also used Perfect Kitchen (from BB&B) with good results, but I've been liking my alcohol-water spray just that much better (for cleaning ability and less streaking/smearing). Once you get the hang of it (by that I mean, finding what works), it really takes little to no time to clean them. FYI, if I've just cleaned the pans, and I am going to cook something particularly messy/spatter-y, I cover the surrounding burners/pans lightly with a sheet(s) of aluminum foil.

I had a funny encounter with an appliance salesman at Sears when I was shopping for a new range. (I ended up with the sealed burner Wolf -- love it.) When I asked about the ease of cleaning different types of range tops (glass, enamel, stainless steel, etc.) he said that the main reason people come back to the store and complain to him about their rangetop is that they don't seem to understand that cooking is really messy and that ranges have to be cleaned every time you cook, as quickly as possible. His comment struck me as unusually honest and so true. Soapy water on a sponge works fine for cleaning the black enamel on the Wolf rangetop. Don't use any abrasion harsher than a blue 3M scrub sponge. The black enamel around the burners can look streaking if you don't polish it or buff a little with a microfiber cloth after cleaning. And the black, like any black surface, shows all the little light colored bits (sugar, salt, etc.) one drops on the stove top when cooking. Silver lining: you can see what you've dropped on the stovetop and therefore know to wipe it up (back to the wisdom of the Sears appliance salesman!)

Pllog makes a good point. Thank goodness for small mercies - no peeling, no flaking. Funny about that with the previous ovens. Rather surprised about that too as I hadn't heard anything about it. Must say, am a bit mystified by a convection oven whose fan cycles off. Why??? Not to save energy surely since the most energy-light part of the oven would be the fan! I downloaded the manual and saw that bit on page 17 that Rocs pointed out to you. A convection oven that may or may not convect. That's not averaging, I wouldn't say. Anyhow, Monogram has received good reviews and I will say that the forward/backward flow is a not half-bad idea to get good coverage. Not to sound totally condescending, but I just wanted to reiterate a few things that you probably already figured out cooking oh in the course of your life and re: convection anywhere (these are the things that I needed to learn): - pre-heat time. Never mind the beep; let it pre-heat 30-40 mins. - Selecting the correct racks and rack pairs when multi-rack baking. All specify to watch for this esp. with multi-rack cooking. - Air-flow: Take them at their word when they talk whatever their oven needs for clearances and to ensure laminar flow in their ovens. Yours says 1-1.5" clearances on either side from the walls, center the dishes on a rack, stagger them when one on top of the other (mine is v. tolerant about the last in convection mode but the clearances for airflow are definitely imp. I've found) - cooking to dish type: darks, vs. shiny vs. glass. Spills vapourizing to smoke is also surprising. Sounds like the bottom element was on and scorched the spill. I think using your drip try from here on out to help catch spills sounds like the best bet. I don't really know what to say though as it sounds a bit odd. Wouldn't have thought the bottom element could get that hot that it would char spilt pastry. No way that Monogram will come out to check the element to see if it is out of place somewhat? (Its a stretch but that's such an odd happenstance, I'd be dying to see what's under the panels ;-) ). Rhome, you'll figure out the ovens' idiosyncracies no doubt.

We're new to our Wolf sealed burner rangetop, but here goes: For me, I think it is easy to clean, I do agree with rhome that the shiny bottom makes every splash noticeable. With that said, I am the main cook, so I tend to tidy up after each use. I always was a tidy kitchen freak, so keep that in mind. We also have a griddle and I love it, find it also very easy to clean, and nothing not even eggs stick after it's seasoned.
We lucked out, I went looking for a Blue Star, as I had already priced out Wolf and SubZero, but needed to travel over an hour to find a dealer. I couldn't believe they were discontinuing their Wolf/SubZero line...so I now own a 48" rangetop, 48" SubZero, double Wolf Ovens, and a scratch and dent Optima Miele for,,, well a great price!

I would however buy Wolf even if I didn't stumble on this sale from heaven. I had a wee bit of an issue with the ovens (I followed the instructions to heat the ovens initially to 500 degrees..this is not the thing to do..according to the service guy who also said Wolf Ovens are Very Good ovens. Good luck with your decision, I think you will love your Wolf as the rest of us do.
