What's for dinner Saturday?

We're having taco salad. Too hot to have anything heavy to eat. I'll slice some pears, maybe.

Drove 36 miles roundtrip to Joe's Italian, to get a slice of cake for tomorrow's lunch.
It's no ordinary slice, it's a fourth of a 3 layer sheet, best way I can explain. Huge, and $8.95 a piece.

They were so busy, no room for me, so I bought my huge piece of Italian Cream cake that Mama makes and stopped by another mama place Mama Goldbergs and got my usual: bologna on rye with lettuce tomato, mayo and mustard.

We had a big lunch (leftover chinese food) as hubby is playing a birthday party tonite. They were there in the afternoon setting up (outside, hopefully the rain holds off). Speakers, lights and heaters.

The family is having a big barbecue with pulled pork and other
southern style food, and the band is invited. So they'll go back for 7:30 to have dinner, and then play till midnite.

I just had fried egg and tomato sandwich. Made 4 loaves of bread today and any type of sandwich tastes better with homemade bread!

Rhizo, you eat pretty healthy most of the time and, besides, that hot dog sounds mighty good! Enjoy!! Shirley, you described your weather so well I got chilly :-) But your dinner would warm anyone's tummy. Rob333, your dinner sounds delicious. I tried frying veggies in tempura batter once and the batter all fell off. I don't know if my grease wasn't hot enough or batter too thin. Just remember being sad I didn't get my tempura broccoli!! Your son will be full of adventure stories to tell you and--I don't think kids ever get tired of the snow. Glenda, you'll be cruisin' before you know it. Sorry you didn't get the dinner you wanted, but LJS isn't a sorry second. Terri, it's so unusual to read that you're having leftovers. I wouldn't think you'd have any with all those big, hungry boys around. Glad for you that you did, though. Momma deserves a night off!

Holy smokes Raven!!! I get bronchitis EVERY time, I don't get just a cold. The coughing hurts like hell, and I get headaches from coughing, and my head feels like it's going to pop off. So I get to the doctor as soon as I can. You must be in total agony! I made the overnight breakfast casserole for myself. Hubby is not an egg-eater, but he thought it looked really good. He had some, and loved it. Egg isn't the main focus, the bread, sausage/ham is. He finished it off for dinner with some corn, and I had leftover ham, potatoes and corn.

No dinner tonight. We went to a birthday brunch, ate too much, and have been dragging around all day. Neither one of us are used to eating heavily at 10:30 in the morning. Left there and went to Costco since we were close, Fred Meyer (there isn't one here locally) then home and had company for a while. Brunch was at a casino. The food is good, I had bacon and tomato omelet, more. And I did gamble a little before we left. I had almost lost my $20, won it back so played some more (slots) and that time I did lose it. DH lost his $5 on a penny machine and quit :) We're not gamblers, and I must say, its a lot more fun when I can break even or win a little. My SIL had begun with $200 and was up to almost $700 in winnings when we left, she has more disposable income than I feel I do.

..Asking me for a recipe isn't usually something I can help with. But I'll try! And I know that I said orzo but I MEANT coucous! But it sure would work with orzo. Fix 1 cup coucous and 1/2 cup red quinoi according to the directions on their labels. Be sure to rinse the quinoa first, and I prefer the red....it tastes nuttier to me. I cook both of them in chicken broth. This salad can be made just with quinoi, but I didn't want to scare my guests. :-) Veggies....to equal about two cups or more : chopped green onions, red bell pepper, english cuke, chick peas (rinsed and drained), halved cherry tomatoes. Use your favorite vinaigrette . I made a lemon dressing with quarter cup fresh lemon juice, quarter cup olive oil, two cloves minced garlic, chopped fresh oregano, sugar, S & P to taste, and a splash of balsamic or other vineger. I didn't use all of the dressing. Add it to the couscous and quinoi while still warm, cover, and chill. When ready to serve, stir and taste to add more dressing if necessary. I added a bit of lemon zest on top for serving and fresh mint from the garden .

I had meatloaf, a baked potato, and a side of the beans I cooked today...combo of pinto and kidney beans.

My meal would have really been complemented with some of jasdip's bread. I can smell it all the way over at my house.

I'm still eating Carrot Lentil Casserole. However, I'm switching back and forth between the casserole and leftover taco salad (well, the meat that is). Meatloaf sounds GREAT. Haven't had it in a long while. Cake sounds even better. And I never thought about a fried egg sandwich with tomato, that would be good for breakfast.

Mike did some nice thick pork chops on the grill. I stir fried, crook neck squash, zucchini, onions and Bok Choy.

I made some bretzel rolls today and some chicken salad so we had chicken salad sandwiches on bretzel rolls. It was quite good if I must say so myself. I agree with Jas, everything tastes better on homemade bread.
