DD just returned from Savannah with the cookbook. Everything looks easy and yummy. As Paula herself says, Souhern food is Comfort food. Just relax and enjoy it." I'd be glad to provide a recipe anyone might be looking for. chery

I have two of her books and have tried a few of her recipes. They are delicious. The one that comes to mind right now is her Beef Stew. It was so good. I made it for my scrapbooking friends and one girl who said afterwards that she never thought she liked beef stew and now she knows she loves it. lol Enjoy the book!

Sorry, I just saw this topic, I didn't know it had been resurrected again. Natal, Paula lost weight eons ago. Old news. Do you work for Google? :) Lukk, Paula is the one who made her health public. She's had the disease for a few years now and she is going to make money from advertising a new medication for diabetes. Since she kept it a secret for so long while cooking high carb and DELICIOUS food, lol, speculation is she only "came out" because of the money. Which rubbed a LOT of people the wrong way, even others on the Food Network. Tina, I did see the interview, she's in denial when she said there's only a "few" people who were mean. Once more she hedged and said how much her family loves her. But I guess I'd do the same. It's not going to die down unless she stops those interviews with Al. I'll still watch her show unless she starts cooking "light." Everybody with a brain knows it's all about moderation. It's like telling an Italian cook with Diabetes to can the pasta. lol I have to wonder though, will the drug company still use her now that she's had such bad publicity, so bad that her own, long-time publicist quit on her because of how Paula handled it? Stay tuned! I still like her though, she just made a questionable choice.

Norma, I went to a few other recipe sites and someone had the Just Desserts cookbook. Here is the recipe: SWEET BABY CARROT CAKE Cake 2 c. self-rising flour 2 tsp. ground cinnamon 2 (4 oz.) jars strained baby carrot food 4 eggs 2 c. sugar 1 1/2 c. vegetable oil Frosting 1/4 c. (1/2 stick) butter, softened 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened 1 (16 oz.) box powdered sugar 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract Preheat oven to 325*. Grease & flour three (3) 8" or 9" cake pans. Mix all cake ingredients together & blend with a hand-held mixer. Pour batter into prepared cake pans. Bake 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool in pans for 5 minutes. Invert onto lint-free dishcloth, or waxed paper and allow to cool completely. For frosting, mix all ingredients with a hand-held mixer & blend until smooth and creamy. Frost layers, top, and sides of cooled cake. Serves 16.

I don't really like Paula Deen either...I hate the way she portrays the southern woman. Many people will look at her (idiot acting) ways and think that all southern women act and talk like her. orie I think the same thing especially when I see food on her chin or coming out the corner of her mouth. Glenda I think I saw on the food network a show about the waffles and fried chicken...seems like a restaurant that stayed open late for the late night crowd invented the chicken and waffle meal. Their two big meals that people ordered were waffles or fried chicken after a night out and lots of partying (drinking. Gladys Knight and Ron Winans have a place in Atlanta but I don't think they were the original ...I'll have to check that out. Here is a link that might be useful: Chicken and Waffles

Just posted my feedback on Paula Deen but accidentally put it on the other question re her cookie recipe. To put it mildly.....she is a great lady and a great cook. I have all of her cookbooks and have eaten at her restaurant 3 times. Don't go near Savannah without having a meal with her. This is truly good Southern cooking. The Banana Pudding is to die for or maybe "die of". LOL Made the Copper Pennies recipe this week and it is yummy and so easy.

She prepared this when doing the 100 year old kitchen makeover.

Collard Green Pizza
Recipe courtesy Paula Deen, 2005

1 (1-pound) ball store bought pizza dough
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup marinara sauce, plus 1/4 cup
1/2 cup cooked collard greens, drained
1 large ham hock, cooked and meat removed
4 slices bacon, cut into large pieces
1 cup shredded mozzarella

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Stretch dough and press into an 8-inch pizza pan. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise
and 1/2 cup marinara sauce. Coat the pizza dough with the mixture. Top with drained greens, ham hock

meat, and bacon. Cover with cheese and remaining 1/4 cup marinara sauce. Bake 25 to 30 minutes until
golden brown. Slice and serve warm.

I just love Paula Deen and watch her show almost every day. Another of my favorites on the food channel is Rachael Ray.
