I don't disagree. I remember commenting to my then high school daughter about how messy some of her classmates looked as we walked into the school's entrance. This school is located along the coast in the high rent district. She brought me back to reality by asking me to add up what the cost was of the ensembles I was criticizing. She was right. They were wearing expensive, but ratty looking clothes.

Maybe they were traveling......

Carol, it is not just travelers. Locals go out to very nice restaurants wearing short shorts or old jeans and Ts.

I am a lot more relaxed in the way I dress then I use to be. The days of putting on a nice dress to go shopping or eating out are LONG gone!

Some people (My DH for instence) doesn't know the difference between casual dress and "work-in-the-yard" clothes. I doubt that it is likely to be a matter of financial stress.

Today we were eatting at Applebee's and a young couple came in and sat across from us. This young man had his pants down BELOW his fanny and underware showing completely. For years we have seen signs at doors "No shirts, No shoes, No service" They should add the requirement of having your pants pulled up!

I am trying to improve my casual wardrobe so that I will look like more than "everyday" when I go places, but I have a tough time finding close to fit right.

I don't care how people dress as long as they are clean.

I have passed extremely well dressed women who reek of cigarettes that they try to cover up with perfume. Nasty.

Was at Golden Corral the other day, and I thought one of the lady's boob's was gonna fall out when she bent over the buffet.

I think it started with an 'affected-casual' look. ("Oh, I'm too, too busy to bother with how wrinkled my 100% linen, $10K suit looks. You've probably noticed I haven't had *time* to shave for *days*. I'm a very, very busy, important *person*. Besides...I'm bored.")

(Not that I miss girdles, hose, pumps, gloves, hats, ratted and lacquered hair. LOL I do wonder why a woman would choose to wear maternity tops when she's not expecting!)

I think a persons appearance reflects how they feel about themselves.

What they wear doesn't bother me unless it's offensive in some manner or totally and unreasonably inappropriate.

I must say, it's difficult for me to resist asking a couple questions when I'm out:
1) Incontinence problem? Need fast access or something? If not, then pull up your dang pants. If Eddie Murphy and Gordon Ramsay were here, they'd both say you look like a donkey.
2) Why don't you take a shower? Do you REALLY think marinating in that ghastly perfume makes you smell attractive??? Go stand next to a diesel exhaust pipe and you'll smell better.

I really like to let people stylize as they wish, but people also need to know that when they exert that right, I have the right to laugh and stare a bit too. F'rinstance:

Uh, Lady... I can hear that outfit screaming from over here. Spandex DOES have certain strength restrictions. Not unlike bridge load limits.

I guess I'd rather put up with body odor than these chemical coverups. And on top of it there's all the other smells from fabric softeners to detergents to hair sprays, deodorants, body powders, cosmetics, foot sprays, hair sprays.... Good grief! They must need a foot locker the size of Delaware to store all their stench supplies!

Two things really get to me. The way alot of the women wear the tops, even local news personal, no lady I really don't need to see you boobs!!! and the way alot of people dress at church. Looks like they are going to the beach/camping etc. I don't mean they should dress in suits etc, but shorts and work jeans/cut offs, don't seem appropriate.

Pajamas in public. So wrong!

You see a lot of people wearing pajamas out in public, I can never understand that.

I don't like the 'hanging down pants', but I imagine if I were a 18 year old boy today I might be wearing them myself. I think our parents were shocked in the 70's by our low rider bell bottoms, hot pants (short shorts) and our bare midriffs. All the guys had long hair... DH said his Dad hated that more than anything. The next generation will have something else to wear that will have us shaking our heads. lol

I don't get the pajamas in public either.

Alot of the nice expensive clothes now are made to be worn wrinkled and with holes in them....Trend....LOL

Sign my name to Wildchild's post. We have a coworker who is a heavy smoker and sprays herself from head to toe with a terrible perfume. Luckily, she doesn't work in my suite, but when she enters it (6 cubicles away) I can always tell it's her without looking.

And---she ALWAYS dresses really nice! Her entire wardrobe is Chico's.

I mentioned to a DD that I wished a grandson would wear larger shirts, as his always seem just too tight across the shoulders. She informed me that this was the style now. OK, but it surely doesn't look so great.

I don't mind casual at all--not even wrinkled--as long as it's clean.

Don't care for the 'here are my boobs, take a good look' style common today.

But interesting you should post this. I was just thinking this weekend about the difference in clothing styles from when I grew up. When I was a teen, your bra was NEVER supposed to show--ever. Not bra straps peeking out. So I'm really torn when you see gals wearing spaghetti strap tops with their bra straps visible--glad they're wearing a bra, but I don't want to see it. And does anyone remember a time when, if you were wearing 2 items (2 shirts, a shirt and a jacket, etc--the inside one was NEVER supposed to be longer than the outer one? It looks SO sloppy to me, the current trend to wear a shorter outer top over a longer inner one--looks like something is hanging out that shouldn't be (is the visual here making sense?).

Oh, well, guess we're showing our age.

Will add--we went to dinner at a restaurant last night. There were people there who were very dressed up, many were casual (we were)--didn't bother me a bit. I really think clothes should be worn for comfort, and in all honesty? I thought the casual people looked much more comfortable than the dressed-up ones.

What bothers me is people who wear shorts and tank tops to church. Not so bad on children, but not good on an adult woman no matter how good her figure is.

If you have tattoos all over yourself (even a so-called "tastelful" little rose on your ankle or chest) and five piercings in each ear and refuse to wear hose, you probably think you look nice!

I'm not very old and I love casual, but I don't understand bare feet jammed into high heels in the dead of winter. Not even my gorgeous 25 yo dtr's legs and pedicured feet look so good bare that she should go without, but she does.

Somebody somewhere told us we should go barelegged in winter, so a lot of us do. Why is that? Surely not because it is too hard to pull on pantyhose!

How people dress doesn't bother me. I might not care for the style personally, but I just couldn't get too worked up over how someone dresses. Every generation goes for the "outlandish".

Maybe. But it probably doesn't match how you feel about them or how you "think" they feel about themselves. They might be dressed in what they consider fashionable, "hip" & feel confident and good, while you see them a trashy & insecure. Just sayin'.

A Checker in WalMart the other day looked so groomed and smart I had to tell her sje was obviously around 60 but hair was neat and a lovely
strand of pearls. I told her she looked to good to be behind a cash register. More to a greeting waiter type in a fine resturant.
That aside. I remember when the only place a girl tcould get pair of blue jeans to wear was in the boys or mens department.
And why do most of the tops (separates) look like the blouses we used to wear as maternity tops??

I've heard that the really baggy pants that the boys wear is going out of style. That's the only style I absolutely hate. On girls is the really low cut shirts that I hate. That doesnt' seem to be going out of style yet.

The way people dress for TV talk and news shows is sooooo wierd. The women sit there with a very tight skirt up to the top of their thighs. Then she has a neckline half way to her waist, and she is usually bleached blonde. They often have bare arms. Well, enough skin showing to leave no surprises!

Then the men are dressed in a suit over a dress shirt, with the colar closed and a tie.

Just what are they trying to say!

Most the boys now scissors are NOT wearing the baggy...They are wearing skinny jeans and tight v-neck T's....but someone posted above the didn't like the tight...I just think to each his own as long as they are clean...personnally I prefer the tight on the boys as to the sagging stuff....but that is just my opinion!
