Fish stock — what do you use?

Every now and then I come upon a recipe that wants Fish Broth or Fish Stock and I don’t have any on hand.

Other than going to a market and buying a fish or fish rack or head (unlikely to be available) and making my own, what might I do?

Tuna juice?

cat food?

wharf scrapings?

I see there are jarred, cartoned and canned offerings, but these all appear pretty salty. Some commenters complain the are way too fishy.

I am not wild about what think of as the Japanese strong-smelling dried and resuscitated fish fragrance. I’m looking for more of a New England Anglo cast.

Any ideas or recommendations?
