Finally Done with my dragonfly stack-n-whack! (pix)

I FINALLY finished my "Dragonfly Dreams" stack-n-whack. This has been a WIP since early spring. Finally...a new couch quilt just for ME!

This was a learning experience. My sandwiching didn't go so well & there were quite a few puckers & pleats when I got done machine quilting...mostly along the outer, border areas. Evidently, I didn't pin it enough. But even so...with the way I was having to push & pull the quilt thru my machine, I was bound to have some imperfections. Oh well! I really don't care. It's done. I love the batik background...it's pretty & hides a lot!

And look....my kitty made it in the pix...again!

Miss Amy, your box did arrive yesterday and I apologize for not posting sooner. My grandbaby just went home and I wasn't online. Anyways, Amy sent me a wonderful box. It has a bottle holder in shades of blue and off white, an awesome assortment of mixes to put in my water, a hummingbird feeder, a rose scented soap, and seeds :prairie coneflower, blazing stars, portulaca, blanket flower, purple spiderwort! You don't have to know what will go on the upper part of the wall. Prep and prime it and you'll be ready when you decide. I think you can use that medicine cabinet if it is something you love. I'm not sure how to judge your "is it too much" thinking though -- do you really love it? As far as size, make sure you have the height for it with lighting that you like. Include the height of your vanity, the splash, some room above that, the mirror and then see what you have left for lighting and clearance above and below. I would like the wider mirror, but if your ceilings are low, you may need to go shorter. If the mirror fits, what would you think about getting some rub n silver from the craft store and adding some silver highlights to the mirror and lightening it up a bit? If you like that idea, go to Hobby Lobby or Michael's and get some of that rub on silver (yep -- use your finger even), and give it some highlights. That might soften it a bit and tie it in to your lighter room. If you've never done anything like that, find something to practice on -- a picture frame, a flower pot or vase - something that you can play with and see how it works on edges and details. For lighting. look at the fourth row of that Ferguson's lighting link, look at the Feiss Claridge. That could follow the shape of the top of the mirror and it might be nice to bring in another curve rather than a straight line. Personally, I like a three light fixture most of the time. It's that odd number thing, plus, if that is the main source or only source of light in the bathroom, I think it's better to have the ability to have more light and tone it down with a dimmer or smaller bulbs if you need to or want to. As far as the toile, it's hard to say not seeing the space and what you have. It might look great, but you keep your other elements in mind. Glad you kept the grout light. I do think that the floral idea will work better than some other toile patterns because of the round and flowing lines. The ones that are tiny sketches scattered could wind up looking like one more liner element. All I can tell you about the creaminess is that I can't tell you anything from my monitor. You'll have to look at the different elements together. You should be able to order a sample of the wallpaper and you might want to try a few to compare.

Greenhaven, I think it depends on how you grow up. My dad was a jack of all trades because his dad was that way. Well long story short I was a big tomboy and tagged along with many of my dad's jobs (metal fabrication, machine fixing, electrical, plumbing, small building jobs like decks and garages. Also at home I was the one that helped him bleed the breaks on his old 1952 1 ton box truck. I also helped him rotate the tires, change fluids and general maintenance. I was also in awe when he had to get out his engine lift (doesn't every one have one?) to put a new engine in his old truck. DH is also very handy because he grew up on a small farm and learned woodworking from his grandpa. I even felt competent enough the other day to fix my leaky S trap all by myself. I fixed up the front porch on our old house (have to sand again and paint since winter came early last fall. :( It will be pretty when I finish, and I can transplant my little seedlings outside. I agree with everyone else though that learning to be handy seems to be a lost art, and I told DH we will have to teach little DD everything we know. It won't be hard though since he loves to help with everything. I am looking forward to your second thread and hope it goes as well as the first one.

Thanks Parma. It's paintable wallpaper in the insets. But the door framing is actually backed with some sort of metal. It was painted inside and out so I don't know what type of metal. Tin or sheet metal. Why thank you n2cookin. I'm guessing you are a good cook and that's something I so am not into to. I can't even get everything done at the same time! I married a good cook though. My Momma didn't raise no fool. ;) Sue, thank you. That's just what I was going for. I don't mind the look of painted furniture if it's done right, but I really prefer stained wood. This wood wasn't worth the trouble to refinish so I thought I'd have fun playing with it. I should ask our daughter about how the anaglypta holds up since we did her baby chest of drawers a year ago March with anaglypta on the raised panels. She now uses it as a night stand. Here's a pix of it just after we did it. She was just crazy over it. It was from my folks and they are both gone now so it means a lot to her to have it with her, yet updated so it's not just an old piece of furniture. It's about twice her age.

I love your backing fabric!!! Good job on the quilting...I know that was a lot of pushing, shoving and tugging! You got some nice designs from your fabric for your blocks, too.

That is really cute and I love the colors. I would never have thought of using that fabric for a stack n whack. I was always under the impression you had to use a larger pattern. Good job.

Thanks for all your kind compliments. This was my learning quilt for using my free motion foot AND walking foot. Learned what a pain the walking foot can be while trying to go around hexagons! And also that I really need to leave my sandwiching until Quilting group at church so i can tape the backing to the table while I'm pinning.

I'm loving looking at it. It's a bit hot here at the moment to enjoy covering myself up with it.

Awesome! Dragonflys are such a wonderful creature in themselves, and to use dragonfly fabric with create a W&S quilt is wonderful. I love the design that each block made. Great work.

Your quilting looks fine to me. A little puff and ruffle here and there are part of what makes a quilt hugable. I always use a high loft batt ( I don't do clothing) to create that extra dimension. I don't want it to look like a tablecloth. Even my wall hangings have extra batt in the pictoral elements to prevent a flat look.

Thanks for all the compliments. I love that quilt. It's the cheeriest quilt I've made so far...& it was fun to see how the k-scope blocks would turn out.

Too bad my "quilt inspector" is gone. :(
