I don't like any stainless steel in the kitchen, Glenda. We have a trash compactor that, even tho it's rectangle, still can't seem to 'catch' what is tossed at it.

I had a stainless steel sink in an apartment we rented in Bethesda, MD eons ago. I could never make it look clean, even when it was freshly scrubbed. If I toweld it off and wiped it down with spray wax, it would look good till the next person turned on the faucet. I am highly suspicious of the effort to keep stainless steel looking good still and have none.

No, I did't like mine. It wasn't cheap, either. Bought it at Bed, Bath and Beyond. (Simple Easy?) I ended up putting it outside for storing a bag of birdseed. I don't remember what it was about it that I disliked....it's been awhile...

I'm not a fan of stainless steel either. There *is* something about those old fashioned step-on-the-pedal type wastebaskets about which I'm nostalgic, but I want a decent sized basket in the kitchen and plastic seems to work best. I have a Rubbermaid one that's styled after the Rubbermaid totes that I've used for years and years and it's a good size, rectangular shape, is easy to remove and replace the bag and it's easy to clean when the bags break. (Bags never break, do they? Yeah, right...) Has a nice flat lid (same style as the totes) so it can be used for setting things on it if needed and it's a nice shape and reinforced on top so I can set things on top of it, boxes or even grocery bags while I'm putting things away.

You caught me! We do have stainless steel sinks, but no ... I don't like them. If I ever (EVER) get to re-do my kitchen like you are, I'll replace them with something else.

I don't like a stainless steel anything. I do have a SS sink because it "Came With" my kitchen her at the RC. The only trash can I have in the kitchen is a large plastic kitty litter bucket that is under the sink; plastic liner fits it nicely.

All other trash goes into a 39 gallon trash can on wheels, which is in the garage, right on the other side of the door from my living room.

I had a trash compactor years ago when I had a family at home. I really liked it.

I like my SS kitchen trash can! Its rectangular and has an insert that lifts out. It has a pedal operated lid. Now Sparky has figured out if he bumps his head into the lid from the side, he can wedge his nose in their and lift the lid! I have a smaller SS trash can near the computer with a sensor on the lid that opens it. I like that a lot. I will be buying a new dishwasher soon and was thinking of a SS interior. Hate the plastic I have now.

I like a porcelain sink.

I like ss for sinks--they're no trouble to keep clean and shiney at all--just a quick wipe and a dry with a paper towel and they look like new (and my ss sink in the suburbs is 27 years old--still looks new. The porcelain sink in the country house NEVER looks clean, no matter how many hours a week I spend scrubbing it with baking soda. I also love my stainless steel, professional workbench--but those things are made for heavy-duty, commercial use, and are a completely different grade of SS, I think.

Other than that, I won't have any stainless steel in the kitchen. The appliances made for household use are too hard to clean, and too easily scratched. Given the amount and type of use a trash can gets, I'd NEVER choose stainless for one.

When we added on to our kitchen at church, we had all stainless appliances, huge island top and fridge, etc. At first we religously (of course!) polished it when we cleaned, but now a wipe-down is all it gets, but the island top is so full of scratches and water marks all the time. Never again, but it will certainly outlast any of the parishioners!!

We have all SS in our kitchen. Our trashcan is SS, as well, and we've had it 5 years. It's a Simplehuman brand and it's great :)

We have stainless steel now that came with our countertops, too. It replaced a white porcelain that I liked but it had a nick out of it right where you could see it. I'd like to have another cast iron one like I had in our cabin. It was grey speckled with one huge, deep side and a small side for the disposal. But the S/S price was a whole lot better--free. I use Barkeeper's Friend to clean it. Does a good job.

We have a white wooden box with a lid in the kitchen for trash. It has a wooden thingie to hold a trash bag in place. I got it at Home Decorators and had to put it together but at least it doesn't look like a trash can. It has a small drawer in the bottom to hold bags. In the cabin I had a cabinet on the island that pulled out and had big double trash baskets for recycling. Cool!

I've never had them, but I don't think I'd like S/S appliances--mainly because of fingerprints and if my husband lived at your house you'd understand why. Sigh!

I have a pull-out to the left of the sink. It holds two plastic containers -- one for garbage, one for recycling. I have a Big/Little sink and a round prep sink, both, white porcelain undermount. I use Bon Ami and Clorox Clean-Up.

The ranch we bought in 1971 had an all-steel kitchen by St. Charles. The cabinets were rose-color steel. The countertops and sink were SS. There was SS tile on the walls. I Hated It. Got rid of all the SS as soon as I could.

I don't have one, but have been sorta looking for one in an oval or rectangle shape. I have all stainless appliances. But I don't require perfection and you are welcome to leave your finger prints on them just like the boys do...

I am like you Terri...I have lots of SS in my kitchen and I don't have to have it perfect looking! It never is and I am not going to obsess over it! Heck it's just water marks or finger prints! Stacy

I think the quality of the stainless steel has a lot to do with whether it has a shine or not. The one in my moms home I think is a higher quality one, looks good after 30+ years. The one in my home won't shine no matter what I do. It's probably the cheapest sink the builder could buy. Just like the difference in quality in pots and pans and flatware.

I hated mine until I found the simple human. The only problem I found thus far is that cat paws print very easily on it. =(
