DH is in the hospital

I had to take Bob tot he ER last Saturday evening. His temperature was slight at about 3pm. I checked him every 30 minutes or so because he had a very sore throat and a lot of rattling when he breathed. I thought he had strep or pneumonia or both. I'm not going to go into detail here about how stubborn he was that he was not going to the hospital. I told him his temp was steadily climbing and I thought he should go. I also told him it was Saturday and I didn't want to wait til Saturday night to go because that is usually a busy time. After 4 hours of squabbling I called his son and asked him to come help me get Bob into the car. His temperature was over 102Â° by then and he was getting weak. When we got there it was 103Â°.

As it turns out he does not have strep and he does not have pneumonia. He does have some type of infection, but they cannot locate where it is. He has been seen by a urologist and a lung doctor. They did some more X-Rays on him this morning and also did some vascular tests. He has had a low grade fever off and on since he's been there, but at least they are keeping it down under 100.

As of right now we still don't know.

I'm so sorry to hear about Bob. He is in my thoughts and prayers. It seems that I've heard of more people with pneumonia this year than ever before!

Hoping they find what is attacking him quickly so they will know how to treat it.

Hi...I am so sorry for you. This is a terrible thing for anyone to have to go through, and you're just beginning to grieve. My name is Susan and I'm a teacher, too. 3 1/2 years ago, my son and granddaughter died. I have to tell you that my healing really began when I went back to school. Our tragedy happened at the beginning of summer break, and I spent that whole summer in a fog. I'm not sure what went on...I was busy putting one foot in front of the other. I only remember that I made cookies for another grieving family and made pickles and jelly. But once I got back to school in the fall, my healing seemed to begin. I wasn't even sure I could work with little kids anymore, because Millie was 6 when she died, but I found that not only could I, but I had something to do that kept my mind occupied for minutes and then hours at a time. Also, I think since I work with mostly women, I found great comfort and support from my colleagues. I wouldn't have been able to cope nearly as well without my job and my friends. I hope you'll find this the case, too. You're in my thoughts and prayers...again, I'm so sorry.

at least the kidney scan isn't too bad..in fact it didn't take long at all for the ct or the ultrasound...be aware however, if they want to do a mri with contrast the dyes used arn't kidney friendly...lots of blood work, but you can get used to to that... water becomes your best friend...

I'm sorry to hear of your problem, Linda.

I'm sending some good thoughts and hopes, plus some prayers, for Bob ... and for you.

I hope that they get things straightened out soon and that he starts healing soon, as well.

Well, I misread your post and thought he did have pneumonia. I do hope they find out what is causing the fever soon, so they can treat it!

Linda, you got him there however you could. Good for you and hope he's much better soon. Isn't it a drag when they can't find the problem? Maybe they'll put him on antibiotics anyway.

Goodness! So sorry to hear hubby is so ill. I hope he is feeling better soon.

It is a good idea to get a pneumonia shot. My Mother's nursing home requires it.

Sound like what happened to my DH a couple years ago. They called it a gut infection but had no idea where it came from. He spent 2 months in a rest home with 24 hr iv's.It was what they had to do-Several people seem to be getting something like that, but they seem to know a little more about treating it now. He did have some side effects from the very strong consistant anti-biotic-but is almost back to normal now. Good Luck. It is scary
