How is the quality of Pottery Barn kids furniture?

Dd finally settled on a bed that meets her needs and approval. I have only ordered textiles and a shelf from them. How is the quality of their beds and dressers? Did I read somewhere if I order through the store you don't have to pay shipping? Thanks again for all you wonderful advice and if you want to play devil's advocate with this bed please do so. Link enclosed to the bed she picked.

Honestly, I have not been too impressed with the quality of PB casegoods (bookcases, wood beds, night stands, etc.) My daughter has the cameron bed with the storage drawers underneath. It's less than 2 yrs old and already has quite a few chips and dings.
I don't know why I keep buying furniture from them! (I have found that the upholstered furniture is excellent quality).
As for shipping- if you order at the store, the cost of shipping is included (store prices are a little higher than catalog prices). But the advantage to that is that if you need to return the item for some reason you would get a full refund (no shipping charges to deduct).

We have a Pottery Barn outlet in my town. The outlet always has a lot of damaged furniture. You can clearly see that the furniture isn't "wood"; it is pressed wood covered in a thin veneer. Once it is scratched or dinged, it can't be repaired. IMO their wooden furniture is way overpriced. (I haven't browsed much in the past year. If PB has changed their source of case goods recently, maybe someone else will know.)

I have had (and still have) my share of pressed wood furniture. Sometimes it fits the bill for a temporary, inexpensive solution, especially if the piece won't see a lot of heavy use. However, I don't want to pay PB prices for it. If you like that style (sorry, couldn't see the bed from your link. It pointed to a PB main page.), check out JC Penney and Target. They carry PB knock-offs. I doubt their quality is any better, but at least the price is more in-line with the quality.

I purchased the Pearce Sectional in the performance tweed in March. It is only my husband and I most of the time. It is a very fussy sofa. It is beautiful to look at but has to be fluffed and pillows have to be flipped every week so the down doesn't break down. Thankfully it is only the two of us with our children and grandchildren hanging out on the weekends. If I had purchased this sofa when we were raising our three boys I would have driven myself crazy trying to keep it looking nice. The back cushions do not bounce back well and must be fluffed after someone sits there. I called PB and have had a difficult time getting a call back. The one I sat on in the store did not do this. I had my last sectional for 20 years. I had is slipcovered after 13 years which gave it a new life. My children always commented how much they love that sofa. When we moved into our new house I gave one of my kids the sectional and got to order the Pearce which I always admired when I would go into PB. Sadly, I am extremely disappointed in my purchase and would not buy this sofa again. I still need a sleeper sofa for a den and after doing my homework will purchase the Brentwood from Arhaus. My niece has the Pearce in leather and loves it so do your homework before ordering this sofa. It may do better with the heavier covering options. Good luck!

compumom - You must have missed my recent rant about PB shipping charges. About a week ago I ordered 2 end tables to use at nightstands. They added "shipping and handling", "delivery fees" and tax which added up to about $230, about $90 of that was tax. I called the support number, the local sotre, and tried every coupon code I could find. I was politely told that's just the way we do it. So I sucked it up, pretended it was just the cost of the tables and paid it. For my outrageous delivery fees I got the tables shipped from 10 mi down the road...lol. One came on a truck on Fri, the other on another truck the next Monday. They came UPS and were placed on my porch, no setup or anything. BUT, I do love the tables so I'd do it again and next time I won't beat my head up against the wall trying to avoid their charges I guess. Wish I'd known about Nancy's trick, I might've given that a shot! Good luck to you.

Thank you Heather! I love your room from the picture. Yes, most of my case goods that weren't my grandmothers were Craigslist finds. They were often someone's parents' or grandparents' stuff and I got good deals on them. Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck in finding upholstered items so far on Craigslist so I'm open to buying new since a quality reupholstering job is often fairly close in price to a mid-quality new. Love your idea about the Harris tweed fabric. Wish I had picked up a few yards when I was in Harris a few years ago. If only I had known at the time that my new husband didn't like the decor and furnishings I brought to the marriage. Oh well. I guess that may just mean, I need another trip to Scotland with a stop in Harris. ;)

Between my two girls I have a complete bedroom of PB Kids furniture. One DD has a 3-pc wall unit/desk set that I am very happy with. The drawers are on metal rolling glides and work fine. The other has a Captain's bed that had the drawers on plastic and wood glides and several have come off the track. I am not happy with those drawers.

The finish on both of them has been fine - no paint chips or scratches. I find them to be very sturdy pieces.

Full disclosure - I am affiliated with PB and do get a discount. That said, I do think the desk wall unit is worth it's retail price. The bed, not so much.

I cannot comment on the quality, but I have noticed that PB is not standing behing their produce anymore. The return policy is now 30 days, and that includes defect. So the warrenty on their furniture is 30 days.
