My plan isn't up until August but I got a letter from them saying I was eligible for a new one now. Granted, I don't have AT&T, but if they want you to re-up with a new 2 year plan (you KNOW they do) it shouldn't be too hard to explain your situation and get them to come up with a solution. Let them know you're ready to walk if they don't!

Some cellphone carriers might work with you. I worked at Verizon Wireless. They went out of their way to keep their customers & prevent them from leaving. Of course it helps if the customer was NICE, had great payment history and was a long standing customer.

It never hurts to ask. Worst case scenario, you can buy a used ATT phone from Craigslist or Ebay and activate it on your phone line until it's time for your upgrade. Be careful and investigate the EIN and make sure you don't buy a stolen phone. However, there are legitimate and honest sales available online.

Maybe ATT will give you a discount or something. If you don't like what the representative is saying, ask for a supervisor, they may have more leverage. But beware, I've talked with supervisors that were worse than the representative.

Verizon also sells used phones, at least they did when my husband lost his while helping our son do some work outside at Ponderosa. At the time it was a no bells, no whistles one and it was I think $19.00. Yes, talk with your carrier. I know Verizon has been very good with my kids plans.

Before I did anything else, call and temp.suspend the service. Maybe, just maybe someone will find it and contact one of your numbers. I found a cell phone at Hobby Lobby. My son went through the contacts, called one of them and gave them our number. The girl called and my son met her at Hobby Lobby and returned her phone.

I don't know about AT&T..but T-Mobile makes you get a new contract with almost every change you make!

I have AT&T. I lost my new phone after having it less than a month! I was so mad at myself. I'm pretty sure I know where I lost it, but of course, someone else more than likely picked it up before I got back to check. I did not have insurance. DH does, since he is hard on phones - but I certainly have insurance on the replacement, LOL!

Anyway, my contract would not allow for a new phone for free (or greatly reduced price) until this coming October, no exceptions. So I got a less expensive (translated nicer/user friendly) phone than I wanted for now and will get the one I want in October.

Yes, AT&T sells refurbished phones, but the irony is that the phone I had sold new for $160 and the refurbished one sold for - get this - $160! For real.

Did you try calling it? It might be around the house.
If it's truly lost, then notify at&t immediately so they can cancel the usage. Otherwise you might get a bill with $5000 worth of international calls.

I agree, report it stolen so you don't get a big bill. Check buy.com for phones also.

sorry should have clarified...I called to suspend the service already...It's been gone for a couple of weeks now. To be honest, I don't really miss it (I know...GASP!!) but it is convenient sometimes, or if there were to be an emergency with my mom or dad and I wasn't home.
I just don't want to have to pay for a new phone..so I may just wait for when it's up.

Buy a throwaway phone to use 'til your contract is up. They're really cheap.

My sister-in-law lost her cell phone somewhere between the grocery store and home - she found it 2 weeks later, IN THE FREEZER! LOL Apparently, she bent over the freezer to put away frozen goods and it fell out of her shirt pocket and into the freezer.

I have always found AT&T easy to deal with. Always helpful and seem to go the extra mile. Call them and see.

You can use a cheapie GO Phone from WalMart. They are less than $15 and all you have to do is put in your SIM card. My DD got her current phone (Neon, I think) from them and has had no problems.

When i lost mine and finally reliazed it i called the number and a woman answered and i explained and she said, someone had found it in parking lot and turned it in at her store. was lucky this time, not so the other time.

One day I got a call from a woman who found a cell phone by a curb in CA. It was my son's phone. She said she just scrolled through the numbers and figured mom was a good person to call. I explained that I was in Iowa but I called my son on his land line and he returned to where he had been parked at work and got his phone back. So nice of that lady to try to find the owner.
