I do online banking, but put in the amounts myself. I don't trust some companies for autopay. I do nothing automatic thru the bank account, because in my case if I want to stop the automatic you have to put a stop payment$$$$, notify the company and remember to list it in the book.

I have payment to Time Warner via a credit card. No problems in over a year, plus I get a rebate from the CC.

No way will I authorize payment directly from my checking account for that very reason (duplicate withdrawals).

Same here as Wantoretire. They send a bill in mail and the amount charged to my cc is always exactly the same as the bill. No surprises.

And there was no charge to switch over. Could that EFT payment be a bank fee?

I won't ever authorize anyone, company or person, to make automatic deductions from my account(s). I do online bill paying through Wells Fargo, and I can either log in and enter a payment manually, or I can schedule a recurring payment of a specific amount to be paid on a specific date each month (or every other month, etc.).

I'd be willing to bet that the EFT payment is something they'll hit you with every month, for the "benefit" of them deducting the payment. Why not make it yourself each month? That way, you'd be certain of the amount paid and also that you aren't going to be double charged.
