Backsplash help. PICTURES. Need a push to move forward
Comments (2)I love glass but don't want the shine they have so I thought I would steer away from it. Maybe an insert would be possible. What do you all think of the type of tile I mentioned in my first note that has some color rather than a neutral? Or do most of you think neutral is the way to go? I would like the backsplash to NOT hide in the background. I would also like it darker than the upper cabinets so the uppers pop out. But not dark (medium shade would be good). Any ideas or pictures would be great. Thanks...See MoreAre we moving away from tiled backsplashes?
Comments (20)MeMcG, oh, no....I am so not questioning if kitchens with tile are "in" or not. I'm just wondering if it is becoming "acceptable" to the mainstream to not have tile, or anything on the kitchen walls, except behind the stove. EAM, funny about the J&J comment...sort of do have stock, but only in a human way ;) rosie--I'm thinking if I paint it a color, I can change it! dedtired, yes I understand that they usually take their kitchens. The ones I was looking at didn't exactly look like they were going anywhere. I wish I could get some of the photos electronically to share. grlwprls, that is one of the looks, just the glass behind the stove. Angie, I can always count on you for some great pics. I know tile has been around forever. (When I was in Ephesus looking at the Cliff Houses that they are working on, the entire wall of the kitchen area was done in a mosaic tile, probably made of marble based on the marble roads and sidewalks). I guess I meant when did it become "expected" to do tile all over the kitchen, and not just behind the range? Pal, I think the editors are still loving the white cabinets in the kitchen, but it's the backsplash where they want to see more color used. ....from what I'm told. Well, I'm back to waiting for my samples of tiles to arrive in the mail.......See MoreHow to make your own tile and back-splash (pic heavy)
Comments (25)I'm not sure how I came across this post, I think it was displayed on the right side and I clicked on it being intrigued by the tile making. I was at one time interested in working with papercrete and hypertufa. But after enlisting my brother, who wasn't as enthusiastic, and my niece, who poured cement down my laundry room sink, which original to the house had lasted 70 years, and ruining three blenders, my interest waned. True to form, if I come upon difficulty in a project, I think of it as a sign for me not to continue. And really, after all these years of trying various crafts that result in crap, I should know better. I also should have known better than to ask my brother, who always says it can't be done to any of my unique design ideas. And I should have known better than to ask my niece, who once stayed up all night before having to drive to LA for an art show, cutting mat after mat after measuring once, twice, sometimes ten times, but always coming out with the wrong size. I think we both have math dyslexia. I should video us trying anything crafty to see where we go wrong. I think both of us having ADHD might have something to do with it. Sorry for the backstory and run on sentences. So, I just wanted to see if you continued with your venture. And to say sorry for whatever tragedy occurred to cause you to have to move to Florida. Not that there is anything wrong with Florida, but it isn't Panama. Which is one of my favorite places in the western hemisphere. I hope no one is upset that I brought up a seven year old post....See MoreKitchen backsplash height, existing 4" backsplash, and ending dilemma
Comments (9)I have a similar question five years later: Is the 4" matching back splash now out of style? And how long will it stay out of style? Doubt that it would be possible to get a full matching back splash 14 years after the home was built. I am considering removing the 4" back splash and going with a complementary tile or, perhaps, a colorful wallpaper. Thoughts as to how long the short back spash will stay out of style? (I'm old enough to remember bell bottoms - the first time they were in style.)...See Morepetra66_gw
