Moving away from my cat - Will she be alright?
Comments (22)What did you decide to do in the end and how's it going? I'm in an almost identical situation to you, albeit in England. I've been living with my parents since graduating from university and have recently accepted a job offer in a place that's around a 3 hour train journey away, so I'll be moving there. I have a cat who lives at my parent's house, but she is 'my' cat, as in, I found her as a stray on the road when she was a tiny kitten, I took her in and she has been a very happy, lovely pet cat since. I feel very close to her, she also sleeps on me, follows me around etc. When I've gone away for weekends etc. my parents have told me she pines in my room and obviously misses me, she doesn't stop eating or anything drastic but still I feel sad to hear she pines and things. I have been looking for a place that is cat friendly, but realistically my budget for a flat/room is small and it would be extremely unfair to take her with me because of lack of space/being on her own all day. She gets well looked after by my parents and I know they will continue to do so when I go, but they have hinted at the fact that they'd like me to take her eventually as we have another, older rescue cat who really doesn't get on with my younger cat. It's just such a dilemma...I'm really going to miss her, to the extent that moving away feels too hard. But I know I can't stay just for her and I have to move my life forward (i'm not happy living at home and I don't like the place I live in). It's just so hard, because I love her so :-((( So do let me know what you did in the end and how it's going. Thanks, Camilla...See MoreMoving away from a child....wtf?
Comments (20)Imma - I don't understand!!!! How do mom's do this?? I don't understand why a dad would do it either but I can see that men (no offense) not all men.. Just a lot of men I know... Can be without their kids. They expect they won't have full residential custody, mom's have always kept their kids ... Ya know what I mean? It's becoming more common for men to have either joint custody 50/50 or residential custody but for my whole life I never knew mom's that didnt have their kids. When my dad left my mom, I was 2. My mom had to go to work. I went and 'stayed' at my grandma's for about a year but my mom called every day, many times a day and she got me on the weekends. My grandparents lived too far to just 'keep' me during the day and my mom couldn't afford child care at the time.. It took about 10 months for her to get on her feet financially and to start receiving CS in order to be able to afford it. She didn't walk away from me though. I've been told by my grandma and my brother and sister that it was the hardest thing she ever had to do but it was only temporary and she was THERE. She still provided for me and saw me etc. I would never blame my mom for the hard decision she had to make. I don't even remember it so that was probably the best thing for us at the time. But to move out of state and leave your kids, for another man, NO ONE comes before my kids!! I remember being faced with this same situation because of finances so I made the choice to move back home to my parents so I could still have my daughter full time. I could have let her stay with her dad, moved into a smaller place, paid a little CS which would have been no doubt cheaper than child care but the thought of it made me sick!! I don't get this Dad either. He calls his son every night to say good night?? That's an involved dad!! And to move 1000 miles away! Makes NO sense and if it were me I would be very angry because then I would have to pick up his pieces!! There are many many many times that I want to shout at my Dd 'your dad is an idiot!! He did NOT hang the moon! I hung it for him and I continue to hold it up for him!!' but the mere thought of my dd's heart breaking stops me every time!! If she knew the truth and she knew that her daddy isn't who she thinks he is, she would be devastated. I think most of us normal mom's know that and don't want to be the reason our kids are hurting. Which is what I'm sure your gf feels. Sounds like she puts her son first and his feelings. She has every right to be angry....See MoreWill I regret moving away from my original vision?
Comments (27)One thing about walnut is, unlike other wood species, it gets lighter as it ages. (Wish I could say the same about my weight!) I think a lighter gray like the first pic with walnut would be beautiful. Here's some I found with gray floors like you said you may do. If you do, it will look very cold having gray cabinets on top of gray floors, so having wood will warm it up. Mind you, these aren't necessarily the wood tones you like. Disregard the red backsplash. And you said you would keep wood floors and possibly transition to gray tile for the kitchen. Perhaps if you did a kitchen like the last pic in my previous post you like, you could do walnut on all the base cabinets, gray tile floor, and gray wall cabinets (you could even trim your gray wall cabinets with walnut end panels). Possibilities are endless. Kind of like this effect where they trimmed out the wall cabinets....See MoreHow many here move their succulents away from the windows when cold?
Comments (20)bluescitygirl I am not rude at all. I just answer you the same way as you commented to breton's post, using your exact words..."I am disagreeing with Breton2"... Ewwmayo posted even more info to prove the same point - did you pay attention to what he said?..."I took this thermal image a little while back and all the coldest days that winter. Outside it was around -18C or so. Inside, at the window frame it was -1C. My variety of succulents did just fine sitting so close to this window for several winters. The leaves were not touching the window pane. My coworkers and I were freezing!"... I know him, he lives approx. 100km south of me, and I have seen his plants. -18 C is about 0 F (you didn't bother to indicate if using F or C - it would be nice if you were precise, not everyone lives in the same country as you). I am not talking about hardy succulents at all. And FYI, I have been growing most of them for abt. 12 years, in cold z5 (and previously z6) and my windowsills are full of them. I hope I learned something in all those years - am sure I don't know as much as you do, but never lost a succulents from growing it on the windowsill. You sound very hostile for someone that just posted 1st time on this forum and doesn't even know who is who (female? male?...), how much experience they have and so on...I wonder who needs to ..." Maybe you and that other fellow need to go cool your assets in that freeze and chill"......See Morepalimpsest
