I thought Spring was here... cold front moving in
Comments (14)I got up and hooked up my 33 gal trash can to my roof runoff drain and it stopped raining. Weather.com said it would rain all day but as usual they were completely wrong so I go no rain water. I have noticed that my 10 warmest established plants (along the south side of my house) have the most inflo development and my coldest plants are still totally dormant. These 10 also have the warmest night locations with the house radiating heat from the day. Plants with more day sun but are exposed to more cool at night, are still behind. Shows how complex the factors are for coming out of dormancy and inflo development. Also, i think the flower is a fluke (is almost open today) as most of my plants are on par for mid May to mid July for flowers, but these 10 should be flowering in April (Bali Whirl, Vera Cruz Rose, Cindy Moragne, Kimi Moragne, Cerise, My Valentine, Moragne 23, an unknown white, and a so called Bill Moragne which is more like an Eva Lani). Time will tell. Bill...See MoreMoving away from my cat - Will she be alright?
Comments (22)What did you decide to do in the end and how's it going? I'm in an almost identical situation to you, albeit in England. I've been living with my parents since graduating from university and have recently accepted a job offer in a place that's around a 3 hour train journey away, so I'll be moving there. I have a cat who lives at my parent's house, but she is 'my' cat, as in, I found her as a stray on the road when she was a tiny kitten, I took her in and she has been a very happy, lovely pet cat since. I feel very close to her, she also sleeps on me, follows me around etc. When I've gone away for weekends etc. my parents have told me she pines in my room and obviously misses me, she doesn't stop eating or anything drastic but still I feel sad to hear she pines and things. I have been looking for a place that is cat friendly, but realistically my budget for a flat/room is small and it would be extremely unfair to take her with me because of lack of space/being on her own all day. She gets well looked after by my parents and I know they will continue to do so when I go, but they have hinted at the fact that they'd like me to take her eventually as we have another, older rescue cat who really doesn't get on with my younger cat. It's just such a dilemma...I'm really going to miss her, to the extent that moving away feels too hard. But I know I can't stay just for her and I have to move my life forward (i'm not happy living at home and I don't like the place I live in). It's just so hard, because I love her so :-((( So do let me know what you did in the end and how it's going. Thanks, Camilla...See Moremoving away from adult children
Comments (15)Wow, that's a tough decision, then. Equally good reasons for leaving vs staying. The most important factor in our lives, especially as we age, is the social factor. And that only you and your DH can decide upon. You could only be depressed if you are not fully committed to this move. It sounds like he is, you aren't. There are indeed real dangers in committing solely to your children/grandchildren. I have a close immediate family, but my nephew just announced he will have to transfer across country in May 2012. With him goes his wife, two kids, and it looks like my sister (his mom) is thinking of uprooting her life to follow them. Our family unit has been stable for the past twenty years. Suddenly we're losing half of them! We're already planning to invest in the new TV-teleconference service that Skype has just introduced. I sympathize that your DH wants to move closer to family. Is this a better social situation for both of you? Even as the family members age, you'll certainly have more of an 'entree' into the community than if you moved somewhere completely new, for example. Do think seriously about the issues of travel as you age. It really becomes more tiring and more burdensome - not just big travel, such as seeing out-of-town relatives, but also the smaller stuff: hospitals, doctors, drug stores, groceries. No matter where you live, this is an issue we all have to face, and a lot of seniors ignore it until too late. You do not want to put yourself in a situation where if one of you is disabled, the other is left stranded and unable to get to necessary places....See MoreRain, Cold, Go Away - Succulents Wants to Come Out and Play
Comments (14)Gail - Sorry to hear about your drought. When was the last time rainfall touched the ground? It's been rain - snow - sleet every few days for us.. mostly rain, anticipating Spring now.. Nomen - What about snail mail? Did you purchase something online? Dan - Thanks Dan! Yes, they are all my plants, they mostly conquer the living room now under lights for now. I call them life support until the temp gets better. Yes, I try to name and date all my plants and when they were last repotted. It keeps things more organized and neat that way....See Moremyermike_1micha
