Do you think they would include a re-decorating allowance?

This listing was posted on the Home Decorating Forum. I think that a full price offer (or any offer) should include a re-decorating allowance!

Seriously, Honestly? I go to the Gallery and spend hours and hours going over all the latest pictures that Oceanna posted. Today, a little over 3 hours at the Gallery (Gee, thanks Oceanna! *wink*). Got nothing, zippo, nada done. Way too many ideas doing Funny Car crashes in my grey matter for me to make a firm decision on my projects so might as well go look-see everyone elses projects. Actually, truth be told there is no name for my 'style'. Believe me, I've searched. No way to describe it online so that I can get a decent search going. Because there is no name for my style, I come to a point where I get stuck ----- (the fact that my ideas have to be done on a miniscule budget makes it all that more difficult.) Kitchen not finished --- going on 15 months. Backyard/Garden Decor not done --- going on 7 months. Family Room not done --- going on 20 months. Sunroom not done --- going on 28 months. Master Bedroom not done -- going on 9 months. (Won't count the Master bath because in all fairness, we just started it. But I'm sure I'll come to a grinding halt there, too.) Why? Because I'm stuck, can't make a decision and stick to it because I can't find ideas for what I see in my mind's eye. I know there's got to be inspiration out there for what I'm trying to create but so far, haven't found it. I get ideas, tips and opinions from all the talented folks here and put them into play and all starts looking good but to head to the finish line? Nope. Isn't happening. So, I go to all the neato new photos on the Gallery side, thanks to Oceanna, kill a ton of time and not get a thing accomplished. Then I feel guilty for not accomplishing anything and I start the whole process over again. Amity, who is heading over to the gallery, again. lol

What do you think of 'books as decoration'?

what are the books that empower you ? for me, books are entertainment, novels and biographies are just that, imo. Unless it's a biography of someone who has accomplished something special that might inspire me. watching a tv show about someone inspiring, as empowering to me as reading about it. most useful book I've ever read : the Four Agreements, I still refer to it. Simple and basic. Out of all the self help, motivational books I've read, it's the only one that says it all within the confines of a very small book. I've read hundreds of novels, yet I wouldn't want to line my shelves with them or want to be judged on who I am because of them. They mean nothing to me but the fleeting escape I got from immersing myself in them. I do buy books as souvenirs/mementos, I am not a knick knack person at all. Frank Loyd Wright when I stayed at the Biltmore hotel, JP Gaultier book when I saw and loved his exhibit at the museum recently, San Fran Homes book when I did a tour of famous homes in that city, book on Tuscan Homes right after my first stay in Tuscany. Books are easy to stash in a suitcase, do not need to be bubble wrapped. oakley, your book nook is a genius idea, very original.

You might consider putting the rangetop not centered on the island so that you have 4' of prep area on one side and 2' on the other side instead of 3' and 3'. The distance to the pantry wouldn't bother me. Our pantry is off a hall just outside our kitchen/family room. We have a 12" cabinet with pull out shelves that holds the liquid ingredients we use most (oils, vinegars, soy sauce, etc), two drawers in the baking area that hold the most common baking ingredients - some flours, sugars, baking powder, etc.- a drawer for spices and herbs and a drawer for bread, jam and peanut butter. So making a trip or two per meal to the pantry for other ingredients doesn't bother me. It is a big kitchen so a small second sink would be useful even if it isn't the "prep" sink. Someplace where hand washing can be done and water can be gotten. Where in your kitchen will coffee be made or other beverages prepared? Where will baking and mixing be done? The counter outside the pantry might be a place for snack prep, baking prep and or beverage making so that might be a good spot for the small sink. We have an island rangetop and like it. I put some comments in the other island rangetop thread about it.

That cream cabinet is the only option. Or I can go with stark white. I can switch to a different cabinet line that has different variations of white. I haven't bought anything yet so I'm not locked in. I liked this style cabinet and this line a lot. I love mixing creams and whites. But ideally I would have the white cabinets with cream granite. Not the other way around! The cabinet is definitely not yellow. I brought it home and put it under sunlight, artificial light and next to my stark white trim. I was really making sure it wasn't yellow. I don't mind taking my time with this because it is a big decision. I just wish it were just a little bit easier. Thanks for all your help!

If I had 2.9 Mil for a house...........I would want a rotating bed with pink chiffon and zebra stripes, a bathtub shaped like a clam, an office with orange and white stripes, an all red billiard room with a giant stuffed camel, a disco room with my own disco dancers, a party room with fancy friends, and a big backyard with Grecian statues, s-shaped hedges and three swimming pools.

cas66ragtop, in my area of CA the dream home you described would be closer to $5 Mill and I'm not sure you could squeeze in the 3 pools !!!!! ;-)

I think whoever owns the house invented something really big - like the Opti-grab. Or maybe they were the owner of a very successful restaurant chain - like Cup o' Pizza. Or maybe they wrote a huge monster hit song - like "I'm picking out a thermos for you". I bet they spent their money too foolishly and are now forced to sell. I bet they donated too much, hoping to prevent the spread of cat juggling. C'mon now.....how foolish can you be? Everybody knows cat juggling is too big to stop.

If you have ever seen one of those gorgeously decorated homes in Arab countries (there are tons over there), you would not make such a remark.

Well...it has *more* of *everything*, but does it have a false ceiling where Tony can stash his guns and cash before the FBI can get in the house?

terriks - Snooki and all her nasty little friends also entered my mind........but this house is WAY TOO CLEAN. Tacky, yes. Filthy and disgusting, no.

chisue - I also thought of Tony Montana, but his turf is Miami. But NJ is famous for mobsters, and the dark red carpet would be great for not showing a little blood that might happen to get on the floor. The extra kitchenette would be a great place to hack up the drug informants.

graywings - I also Googled and found out about the doctor, but his name being Benn, I assumed he might be Indian. I did see where he gave Howard Dean a $250 donation. Scary what you can find on the internet. See - I wasn't far off when I said he probably foolishly gave too many donations to the wrong people!

Sorry all this has been at the homeowner's expense. I was just having fun, wasn't intending to be mean about it. He obviously has different taste, and obviously spent a lot of money doing it. More money than I will ever have. I'm sure my house would not win any design awards either.

Two homes for sale in our general area are owned by builders. Both are almost as "personalized" to put it kindly.

One would think that builders, who should have a better handle on market appeal, would have depersonalized to some degree.

That said, I think that too many people are convinced that if they spent a lot of money on their "decor", that by the virtue of the expense, it will have universal appeal.

They don't seem to realize that with so many homes languishing on the market, especially at this price point, buyers skip right over the listing to those that require far less work and it's inherent disruption to bring the home to the point where they would be happy with the space.

It's listed at more than double the assessed value ($1,155,000)and the property taxes are almost 63K..

Should be interesting to see the final sale price.
