With regards to the post about the Good Old Days...let's look at how things have really changed.

I have about 85 roses and am seeing lots of mildew this spring but, since I garden organically, I don't spray and just suffer through it until it gets warmer. Fortunately only a portion of the roses have it and with more and more blooms showing themselves the mildew isn't so apparent.

Oh, this is the stuff that is the flooring of the porch, and it was not kept well painted, and so the edges have rot, and if you kind of bounce up and down in places, it kind of sags. Do you suppose that, too, would be salvageable, if it were braced underneath? It isn't very thick. The floors in the house are GORGEOUS under their unfortunate layers of paint. We have scraped some of the paint that is loose off. I was thinking about renting one of those big sanders to get it off there, but knowing me, I would be better off hiring this done, because I would take forever. Almost all the trim is painted white. I hated it at first, but am learning to live with it, because getting all this woodwork stripped and sanded would be a tremendous job. There is some really ugly carpet in places, too. On the back stairs (which we never really use, anyway), I lifted up the old indoor outdoor carpet covering them, and one of them has a mouse hole you can see clear down into the basement lol! So, I set it back down. They're sturdy, though. The inside of some of the doors is quarter sawn. I sure wish they wouldn't have painted them. Just beautiful where it's not painted. Unbelievably gorgeous brass hardware everywhere, including a circa 1869 doorbell. The previous owner stated they had intended to replace the front double door and transom window. Thank you, God, for somehow this not having happened. What a tragedy that would have been.

JNM, honestly... I was thinking of your posts this weekend and I kept thinking dear lord dont let what happened with her happen with us... but then I am very realistic and I am sure this will only last as long as whatever else in her life is tilted. I suspect the boyfriend but who knows what it is... we shall see :-)And, I totally get what you are saying... I know if (and when) things go bad I will immediately go back to being the bad guy. I dont know why I am always the bad guy ... especially since I have told DH numerous times (and he in an argument told her a few times) I am BM's best friend and she doesnt even know it... I am the person saying lets calm down and look at this from a different angle blah blah blah... I keep trying to think of an analogy but I cant come up with one. I even told my mom I am so shocked by the way things are going I half expect the next time I see her I will say hey what's up and she will say... umm nothing back to being ignored or having insulting comments thrown my way.... But hey we take the good when we can get it I suppose.

With all those rainboots, I would expect to see a place to put umbrellas. I do use umbrellas, but I've never had boots like those. I know that in Oregon (especially Portland) you are supposed to wear a raincoat instead of carrying an umbrella, but I did buy a nice umbrella there that is black, gray, and white leopard print. I carried it when I was in Portland, and I didn't care if that made me look like a tourist because I didn't want anyone to think I actually lived in Portland. I have an emergency rain poncho that I keep in Kevin's truck, but I've only used it twice. I also keep a collapsible umbrella there, which I use more often as a parasol, to protect me from the sun.

1.going to bed with brush rollers- blow dryers

2.having gas pumped, and attendant checking oil-husband pumping and checking oil, and when I could, I did it.

3.attendant at station cleaning front and back windows-what attendant?

4.attendant checking air in tires-again, what attendant?

5.schools providing all school supplies-parents providing all school supplies

6.orchestra instruments provided by school-No can do anymore. Children are just too destructive. Parents will not be responsible for juniors destructiveness.

7.What can I do for my country? What can my country give to me?

8.being loving and kind toward others,just because-being spiteful and mean toward others, just because.

Fix something - toss it and buy new
25Â¢ bottle of pop - $1.50 bottle of pop
Kids being punished for breaking a toy - Kid gets a new cell/ipod
Excuse me - GET THE F$%@ OUTTA MY WAY!!!
I'm sorry, I didn't see you - Let me finish this call...
Can't afford it - Put it on the credit card.
