The frame does take up space, which is why many people with smaller kitchens who may like the framed look opt for frameless anyway so that they don't lose that precious extra space. For example, my cabinet door sits inside the box instead of outside of it, so I lose 3/4" (the thickness of my door) of space inside the cabinet. My drawer fronts are even thicker -- 1 1/2" -- so every drawer has 1 1/2" less space inside than a comparable frameless drawer. Hope that makes sense. I knew I was going to lose some space, but I loved the look of the faceframe inset cabinets so much, and my kitchen is pretty big. Here is rmkitchen's kitchen. She has frameless cabinets but her kitchen reminds me of your inspiration kitchen because her cabinetmaker used trim to make her doors/drawers appear inset. She wanted to get maximum usage of space. Maybe you can make another post asking people for more pictures of frameless cabinets made to look inset? Good luck! E

I found these three pictures online. I'm putting them in order of most favorite to least favorite. Thoughts? Opinions? We've gotten three estimates on our chimney flashing repair and they are all identical in work to be done and price (how often does that happen), so we're fairly certain of exactly what we're getting into there. Once we nail down what we want the fireplace to look like, we'll be on our way to a warm and not fugly living room. :) We're only looking at the mantel and legs, not the style of the firebox on these. Our fireplace contractor's mantel guy would be creating something that replicates the look; we wouldn't be buying the mantel from these original sources. Number 1: Number 2: Number 3: (Problem with this one would be the firewood box -- which I don't care for, and don't have room for anyway. That would leave an asymmetrical appearance, since there would be nothing in the wall area next to the existing firebox.) Always happy for input. I'm very confused and miserable about this stupid fireplace.

Hi Sooz -- I happen to love the kind of tile you had; I grew up in a 30s house with strongly-colored tiles in that pattern carried around the room. So while there are many, many options out there I sure wouldn't rule out a variation on the theme. One thing re your window -- have you really checked to make sure there's no rot around the window or into the walls? Because now would certainly be time to replace things. We're wrapping up our bath reno so I do have some photos of what we did plus a few inspiration photos I can share -- none are exactly what you're looking for but some have the elements you mentioned. If you're committed to just keeping the tile in the shower/tub area vs carrying it around the room, I think keeping things simple is probably best. Simple can be serene and gorgeous!
