do you only use HE soap in your FL?
Q

I have to agree with Molly, use what works best. I've found that even the HE detergents can be very sudsy. I've had the most trouble with the P&G liquid HE detergents. Currently I like the Shaklee powder best, it gives directions for both types of machines. 1/8 c. for FL and 1/4 c. for TL. I have used 1/4 c. on my oil stained massage linens, with no issues. I use an 1/8 c. or less on my regular wash. I'm also currently using regular, old Cheer powder for my dark wash. I've only done a couple of loads with it, but so far I like it, no sudsing issues. I even did a large jeans, undewear and socks, and some towels load with Cheer filled up to "line 1", as an experiment. There were no suds in the spin and very few in the first rinse, completely rinsed out by the last rinse. I usually get sudslock in the first spin if I've used too much soap. My water is relatively hard, I have a two year old Bosch 6400, that is very fussy about detergents and amounts. I could only use a couple of tablespoons, max of P&G HE or I would get sudslock in the spin. Therefore, my massage linens still had oil stains left on them. As has been said before, I think it depends upon your machine, type of load, and water chemistry what your results will be with different detergents. Whether it's a TL or FL, we all have to experiment to find what works best for our conditions.

hand soap vs body wash

Thanks everyone... I didn't think it would be a big deal, but I wanted to make sure. I'm going to use the hand soap as our body wash. As for antibacterial, I have to use that on my face - No choice. I don't know about the whole you should/should not use antibacterial becuase of the "buggers" that are out there, and i'm going to sound a bit gruff here - I don't really care about it. I lived without all the antibacterial stuff and I do see some value in being exposed and value in being protected. This is the one soap that I have it in, so I don't feel that I'm overdoing it. My son has to use the liquid soap because his hand can't seem to find the bar rack in the shower after he's done, so I wind up with mushy soap on the floor the next morning. But we have to have soap - I mean he's 9 and he wears dirt like clothes, so he needs to have a way to wash it off...This was just inexpensive, so I got it. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something between hand/body soap. What is Zote? I'm going to have to look that up (I prefer bar soap, but can make due with what I have right now.) I don't want to use detergent on my skin or my families skin. I agree, if I were using it for house cleaning or clothes, I'd do something a bit different than soap, but I'm not aware of a "skin detergent" beside soap...if I'm missing something let me know. I want to be safe, environmentally friendly and yet stay within a budget. I try to keep a small footprint, but I'm still a work in process. Anyway, I wanted to say thank you to everyone. I'll let you know if I see "big" changes. I appreciate all of your advice.

How do you get soap scum off a shower door?
Q
Comments (5)
Try this recipe it works! I found this DIY cleaner on here and here and it is fantastic because it works! Here's the recipe: 8 oz. (1 cup) of warm vinegar 8 oz. ( 1 cup) of Dawn That's it! I put the vinegar in the microwave for about two minutes to get it warm. Then mix the vinegar and the Dawn in a spray bottle. One cup of Dawn seems like a lot to me, but I guess you need that much to cut through the scum. It makes sense. If it can cut through grease and baked on food, it should be able to cut through yucky shower scum! I sprayed the Dawn and vinegar mixture on the glass and scrubbed with a sponge. I really didn't have to scrub hard or for very long. That stubborn stuff came right off! I had a bucket of clean water to wipe off the soap suds. When I was done, there still seamed to be a little bit of residue on the glass so I just used the glass cleaner I usually use to give the doors a final wipe. Now my shower doors look as good as new!

Double sink vanity - do you use one soap dispenser or two?
Q
Comments (20)
I have a very long vanity right now. Two sinks, plenty of space in between them. One soap dispenser. As long as this vanity is-it's still..not like you have to cross a soccer field. I'm also totally fine with using my husband's side. BTW I also often brush my teeth there, and hand wash my lingerie there too. Unless I have enough lingerie for two sinks. I use mine also of course-washing face, etc. Mine is also closer to the medicine cabinet, my drawers, cosmetics, etc. One hand towel on the wall, my side. The other edge of the vanity doesn't have a wall next to it. We also have a shower where we have a soap, and a bathtub where we also have a soap, and I feel like we have enough soap in a rare case both of us need the same dispenser at that very moment. We can also take turns! You squeeze, then I squeeze! No messy trails-I usually wipe the counter right after I use it. (More than that, I also wipe counters in the public restrooms sometimes..I have a thing with wiping the counters I guess lol. My friends think I'm slightly abnormal.) I also take shower/bath twice a day ..just to clean my name in advance, in case you think I don't have great hygiene habits or something..:) I do have a nice tray with all my beautiful eau de perfume bottles..right in the middle of the counter. I think it enhances my bathroom experience. My husband doesn't have similar centerpiece. (poor thing) I truly hope though mine enhances his bathroom experience too lol.

I use a bar of soap.

I have received many bottles of body wash as gifts, but I never got the hang of using it. It generally splashes around making splotches I have to clean up!

I use regular soap. Somehow, I just feel cleaner than using the little net thingy & the body wash. It's just me I'm sure.

I'm allergic to so many things, I stick to the one brand I know I can use without breaking out--Dial soap. Nothing fancy, but it does the trick.

Liquid soap. But *not* the anti-bacterial kind. And I use those bath gloves. After all these years, I just don't feel clean unless I wear my scrubby gloves. lol

Body wash with added moisturizer. Love it! I usually use a wash cloth, but occasionally I use the net thingy. I like the fact that it doesn't leave soap scum to clean up. Bettye

Bar soap mostly.

I always have body wash in the shower but use it primarily when shaving my legs. I used Dial and Irish Spring for years but recently found a wonderful lavender soap with dried plant pieces in it for exfoliating at Trader Joes. I will probably stock up on more next time I'm there.

I love a crisp citrus body wash mostly (with the puffy thingy), but I have an olive oil and glycerin bar that I really like too. I think the detergent in a bar of soap is too harsh on my skin.

Walmart brand (Equate) body wash. DH used Olay body wash for years because he has really dry skin, and I picked up the Walmart brand one day and said lets try it because it's a lot cheaper. We both loved it and that's what we've been using ever since.

I've been using body wash for years. Tried many different kinds because my skin is so dry. I recently got some handmade soap and my skin is soooo much less dry. It contains olive oil and coconut oil - no talc so no soap scum. I've decided to make my own when this is gone. I'll just use the melt & pour kind and add my own scents and herbs and things.

Been using Softsoap body wash, then the various store brands, whatever was cheapest. Got a sample bottle of Old Spice body wash a few years ago and have been buying it on sale and lately got the body wash/shampoo combo stuff on clearance for about 40¢/bottle. I like tht it's a clean but not overpowering smell and does seem to clean better than the generic stuff.

Using dish soap mixed with water in a foamer bottle for hand soap now too. Haven't used bar soap for decades. Got sick of the scum.
