Homemade laundry soap vs. Charlies Soap?
Comments (41)To those of you who have been using these "home made" detergents, are you experiencing any odor, mold or mildew issues? The reason I ask is because castile soap builds up into a gooopy, gel-like gunk if not properly rinsed. This could potentially cause problems in washers. Every home-made product I've tried - from detergent to fabric softener - has proven unsatisfactory. Either the products don't clean well, they risk building up in my machine or on my clothes or they just don't work. Price is not the only consideration, which is what appears to be driving this homemade laundry movement....See MoreDo you use soap or body wash to shower?
Comments (31)Been using Softsoap body wash, then the various store brands, whatever was cheapest. Got a sample bottle of Old Spice body wash a few years ago and have been buying it on sale and lately got the body wash/shampoo combo stuff on clearance for about 40¢/bottle. I like tht it's a clean but not overpowering smell and does seem to clean better than the generic stuff. Using dish soap mixed with water in a foamer bottle for hand soap now too. Haven't used bar soap for decades. Got sick of the scum....See MoreBody wash?
Comments (10)I've used Nexus (sp?) and other high-buck fru-fru brands and I've used Suave and White Rain. I'll stick with the latter. The brand I've been buying lately is White Rain Extra Body. Best shampoo I've used in a long time. Use less, cleans better and seems to stay clean longer. Doesn't feel like the slime on there that others have. I get a "bonus" bottle with 20% more for 99¢ and it lasts over a year with the little bit needed. However now I use Old Spice Body & Hair wash since I got it on sale BOGO, clearance for $1.24 and had a $1 coupon so for pennies a bottle I stocked up. And it works fairly well on the hair. Although the shampoo does a little better but it saves time. There's a lot of promos going on now for body wash. Watch the stores for clearance. Target is great for discontinuing stuff and putting it on clearance. They start at 30% off, then go to 50% then to 70%. When they have a bunch, it goes to 70% often. And when it's a buy one get one, all the better....See MoreIn Sink soap DIspenser - Hand or Dish soap?
Comments (25)I understand the concerns about using dish soap if it tends to dry your hands. That hasn't been a probelm for me, but I do have a child with OCD who tends to wash more than necessary, so for a while I switched from the antibacterial dish soap to a dish soap that was not antibacterial. It was gentler on the hands, and kept my child's hands from cracking (and sometimes bleeding) as they had with the antibacterial soap. Since then, I've diverted my child from constant hand washing to using hand sanitizer in between a normal amount of hand washing, which has solved the problem. Now I can use whatever kind of dish soap I want. But if it doesn't bother your hands, dish soap is a perfectly good hand soap. (My grandmother even used dish soap for shampoo, which I do occasionally for a super cleansing of all hair products from my hair, with no discernible harm.)...See More- 17 years ago
