Also, I have always had a hard time arranging the furniture in our living room since it is so oddly shaped! :( We are thinking about getting a wrap around couch and maybe a recliner to make things easier and look better. yayagal, thanks for the link! You hit the nail on the head with earth colors! Exactly what I'm looking for..just hard to choose which ones. lol I've seen a lot of turquoise crosses and turquoise western decor, which I think would compliment the colors well! Would you mind sharing pictures of the family room and dining room? Thanks again!! I hate posting these pics because our house is so bare! lol But I always stop to remind myself that we are only 23 and just starting out! :)

I'm currently a big fan of Benjamin Moore Affinity "Mascarpone" as a creamy white that doesn't get too yellow or beige (so much so that I'm a broken record on the subject). The chip is AF-20, so if you liked it in your room you possibly could have it matched in SW. Slghtly yellower but also really lovely is the hideously named "Mayonnaise". Farrow an Ball's "Pointing" is a classic trim cream that you could have matched, too. Our builder usually matches BM "Cotton Balls" in SW for trim in their craftsman style homes, which I like, but I found it just a teeny bit grayer/bluer than I wanted for our house. I love Bronwynsmom's tips for seeing undertones--I will try that next time, as sometimes my eye can fool me. Something I've found helpful is to keep a chip of BM "Decorator White" handy and hold it against any other white I'm looking at. Not a perfect method, since it too has an undertone, but helpful. If you have already chosen your wall colors, hold your trim sample up to all of them--your gut will probably tell you whether the undertones compliment each other or not.

Thank you, lam and peppy doodle! I have to admit I was a little bit in shock when they first took down the tape because it looked so different, but now I'm loving the change! I'm glad I'm not regretting it. I keep sneaking back into the kitchen to look at it. Seems so much brighter and lighter than before, but still warm enough with the creamy white. I can't wait to see it with the doors back on and new hardware installed. Snookums - thanks for the tip. I'm trying to keep everyone out of the kitchen and the painters are very careful, but good to know. I'd hate to have a can of paint spill all over my slate floor!

Gray IS neutral, as are beige based and off white colors. Why invest in "trends"? Invest in a more timeless color that is not subject to fashions trends. That is sound advice when building a wardrobe or adding elements to your home. Who cares what "NO ONE" wants? The real question is to ask what it is that YOU want? "NO ONE" does not live there....you do. You cannot go wrong with a neutral and non dictating base color. You can always add accent colors. Those should be the trendy colors---the accent colors. They are usually the things that are more easily changed out. This kitchen needs more that just a change of color for the cabinets, though. It is almost a moot point. I agree that painting them is not always a good choice. I had painted some cabinets in my kitchen at one time. Once you opened the cabinet door, you saw that it was really an old cabinet. Unless you are going to go behind the doors and renew that space as well, you might as well not waste your money and time. They almost never look good. I have seen some that do. But, most times it is not a good look. Besides, the finishes on a new cabinet door are finishes that I could never attain from using ordinary paint. And, to get such a resistant and smooth factory finish as what is on my KitchenMaid cabinets would require materials and tools and techniques that are not readily available to me, the DIY person. One advantage for you is that your doors are a slab door and are easier to work with. The two colors that you chose are beautiful. It looks like what ever is on your floor has a gray tone to it.
