Sadly, mine will be white. She has been gone only 8 years, but I still miss her every day.

Mine is white too but then I am an old Lady myself so my Mother would have to be ancient to still be around.....

Red my Mom is doing very well after recovering from an emergency surgery not long ago, she is going to be 89 in August. My Mother in law is also doing well after her bouts with various cancer she is also 89. Strong women!
I sent both of them beautiful flowers, I usually send 2 dozen roses this year I sent a beautiful combo of purple iris and giant stargazer lilies with a box of chocolates. Apparently they both love them from the phone calls we got LOL. I hate we can not be there with them to celebrate.

I wish I could say red, but it would be white, unfortunately. Mother died 12 years ago, but her mind had gone way before her body did. So sad!

I had never heard of this tradition until I read it here. I don't know anybody that's ever done that. It must not be a Texas thing.

Growing up mother always had red rose bushes and on Sunday morning before Church, we'd go outside and cut a rose for each of us and pin one on our shoulders.

When we needed white and didn't have a white rose, we'd get that person a white carnation to wear.

Always did that for Mother's Day, but don't think that tradition is followed that much, now.

Our church used to have red and white roses on Mother's day. When you came in someone would pin the appropriate rose on you.
Mine would be white. Mom left us in 1980. She was such a wonderful Mother and I still muss her so much.

dont wear them.. but it would be white. Mom died at the age of 55 when Ds was 8 weeks old.

Red, thank goodness. She's still going strong.

I will wear a red rose corsage with white baby's breath, in honor of my husband, who died in 2007 and my mother, who died in 1969.

I remember doing this when I was growing up and going to church on Mother's Day.....my sisters and I would all wear red and my Mom would wear white.

My Mom's been gone since 1989 (she was only 58 when she died, I was only 23). So white for me, sadly. I miss her so much.

I have never worn a rose for this before, but if I did mine would be red.

My mother died two years ago, today. I miss her terribly.
I am an only child. She was, and so was her mother.

As a small child (I grew up in South Texas)I remember people wearing red or white flowers on Mothers' Day...I don't seem to see that so much anymore.

Weird child-logic...I remember wondering if pink flowers meant someone's mother was ill.

We never did anything like that where I lived, Glenda. Your question a few years ago was the first I had heard of the practice. But my mother died when I was 12, so it has been many decades.

Sadly, it will be white...for the third year.

Mine would be red. I have a feeling next year it will be white. Mom is failing fast and I sat and cried last night just thinking this might be her last mother's day. Life gets hard sometimes...

Our church passes out carnations in different colors and you can chose the color you like. I had a yellow one.

This may sound really selfish, but I am raising my daughter to not fall into the Hallmark holiday trap. I don't want her to be sad on Mother's day when I'm gone or for her to wear any kind of flower. We spend a lot of time together, we are spontaneous and have a great time. We don't need a holiday to commemorate our relationship.

Having said that, my Mom has been gone exactly 10 years now. Her birthday almost always fell on Mother's Day, and she passed away just days before Mother's Day, so the day makes me sad, and I just don't want my DD to feel this way. If she wants to make a deal out it with her DD then that's her thing. We did go out for dinner and live theatre (with DH of course) and had a great time, but I say it's to celebrate ourselves, for no reason, not for Mother's Day, it's something we do as a family.

I miss my Mom every day and we talk about her quite a bit. I know that she missed her Mom every Mother's Day and that always made me sad. I just want to turn that around somehow and not have my daughter dread Mother's Day and other holidays, like I did for so many years. We honour my Mom, her g'ma by talking about her and the things she said and did.

I am also adamant about family time being any time, not just holidays and not just because the caldendar says we have to.

And no, I do not want a sappy Mother's Day card that I am expected to live up to for the rest of the year. Save the $6 you would spend on a card and tell me in your words what I mean to you, the good the bad and the ugly. Well, hopefully it's all good, coz I really don't want to know the bad unless I am unintentionally traumatizing someone. :-)

I love the memories of my childhood going into church on Mothers Day with my red flowers, I love that Glenda reminds us of this tradition every year. I have had white for more years than I want, but know that she is again with her dignity and pride that this life robbed from her.

My grandmother had beautiful red and white peony bushes in her yard. She lived way out in the country and attended a country church. Every Mother's Day she pinned a beautiful white peony on her dress. She would also pin a baby red peony bud on my mother's dress. After my grandmother died I remember how my mother always placed a vase of white flowers on her kitchen table in her mother's memory for Mother's Day. I adored my mother. We spoke everyday and shared many many loving and laughing moments together. Sadly, this was my first Mother's Day without her. I bought a beautiful bouquet of white roses for my table...they made me feel better.
