Sorry to say that mine will also be white. She left this earth in Dec 2005.

Mine will be white also. I lost my dear mother in January 2009.

I lost my only child 7 years ago this week, so Mother's Day is a very sad day for me.

Red, but this just might be the last Mother's Day. She was very sick earlier this year, and quit eating and drinking. The hospice nurses gave her about a week...for some reason she pulled out of it. That was a blessing in numerous ways since I was booked to be out of the country right when that happened, and it also gave me an opportunity to fly up to Chicago and visit her. We had a GREAT visit a few weeks ago, but her Alzheimer's has gotten quite a bit worse since Christmas. She turned 89 last December.

What a nice tradition. I hadn't been aware of that before.

Mine will be white, my Mom passed in 1999...Like Mamatoad, I miss her every day and often have dreams, good dreams about her.....Just last night, we were getting ready to go on a cruise (in my dream, of course)......

I've never heard of wearing roses of any color on Mother's Day. But I'd have to wear white if I did. Lost my mother when I was 25. She died quite expectantly at age 47. Those who still have their mothers ... cherish your days together.

I have never heard of this tradition either. Perhaps it is a local custom. I am fortunate however in that I can wear a red rose. My mom is 84 and she will spend Mothers Day at my brothers and then come and stay with me Sunday night. We will do a little shopping on Monday morning, I will take her out for lunch and then take her home.

I have heard about it, maybe it is a Southern tradition. Once again this year it will be red, she will be 91 in August. She is not in real good health these days so every day is a treasure. I just wish I was closer to spend more time with her. My sisters get to go to the home daily to visit with her and bring her treats. I did send her 2 dozen multi colors roses and a box of chocolates. She loves flowers and chocolate. Did the same for my mother in law who is the same age but still living at home and doing well.

Mine will be white. I lost my mother 2 years ago on Mother's Day. Mother's Day is no longer a good day for me.

Mine will be white. On Mothers Day 2002 as I was packing to make the 100 mile trip to visit with my Mom I got the call to tell me that my 92 year old Mom was in emergency surgery for a strangulated hernia. She made it through the surgery and seemed to be on the mend. Two weeks later, my brother, sister and I were with her for the transfer to a nursing home, got her settled in and said our "I love you's and we will be back next weekend". When each of us reached our respective homes about 2 hours later, the message was on our phones that our dear Mom was gone.

My church used to hand out flowers, but they were carnations.

Mine will be white. MY DM diued on May 25,2008. I still miss her so much.

The tradition here in Tennessee has always been either red or white carnations, not roses.

We keep that tradition too. I remember my mother picking the roses for us from a pass-along bush. She died in1982 but still is very near me.
I think roses were used because they were blooming in our yards. No one went to a florist (or Kroger!) back then. We gathered whatever was blooming for Memorial day or Decoration day, to put on the family graves.

I have never heard of this tradition either. What a nice tradition. I also am in the white rose club. My mother died in my arms August 18, 1998, 3 days after my 28th birthday. I miss her always.

My smypathy to everyone who has lost their mother. I'm very happy for those that are lucky enough to still have theirs.

My Moms birthday is May 12, same as Mothers Day some years (including 2013). I still miss her like crazy.

White for my mom who died in 1989 - way too young, she was only 58.

It's not a local tradition since I'm from Newfoundland, Canada and we always wore white or red flowers (fake since fresh flowers weren't easy to come by in our small town in May). Here is a picture from the late 70's of my mom, my 3 sisters and me wearing our Mother's Day flowers.

Today our church gave out either red or white carnations for Mother's Day. Though I think some did not know the tradition.

Sadly..One of mine will be white today..We lost my mom that raised me..August 30th almost two weeks ago.. I have not been doing well..

Mine would be white. My mother died in 1997. Hard to imagine, she would be 109 years old if she was still living.

We went to church with my in-laws yesterday & I was surprised to not see a single lady wearing a rose. This is only a few miles from where I grew up, so it's not because of people in the area not knowing about the tradition, especially middle age & older ladies. Maybe people aren't following this tradition much anymore? I always thought it was a nice tradition.

I didn't wear one yesterday; I've been so busy that it just occurred to me on Sunday morning that I should have a rose. Mine would've been white; my mother passed away in 1999.

I would be wearing white, my mom died at 57 yr old in 2000 when I was 32. My dad has been dating a wonderful lady since 2001 that I treat just like a mom, we have a wonderful relationship and I send her stuff on Mother's Day.

I remember posts here about this tradition, I did not know of it before I saw it here years ago. I think more of these traditions should be brought back, we don't have enough from our past carrying over into today :-( now doesn't that sound like I'm old LOL just missing the traditions... ~ liz

We always did it for our mothers years ago, but not roses. Usually it was blossoms from apple trees or any flower that we could find. I didn't see a single one at church on Sunday. In fact I had completely fogotten about it. However the children did give a flower to every mother there. I got a lovely purple carnation. I'm in Canada too, so it isn't just a local tradition. Mine would have been white as well. My mother died in 1974 and I still miss her so very much. She was a wonderful person and the longer she is gone, the more wonderful I realize that she was.

Red, but I don't wear one, I only buy them. And it took a bit of cajoling to get the corsage for my mom to wear this year. They only had purple orchids or dead/dying yellow or white roses. Mom wears a white one, and I miss GranMrs terribly. Her mother, GranMrs, lived in the same city as we and we saw each other at least once a week. We have always worn white or pink orchids here. I never see red?
