how would you handle this? (long)

My 18 year old DS is graduating soon. He has had a steady girlfriend for a year and a half. He apprised me 6 months ago that he and his girlfriend have become (safely) sexually active. I was not thrilled to know this, but I guess things could be worse, since they're both honour students, hold part time jobs, and don't drink or do drugs.

Ok, here's the question. DS and his GF want to go on a 4 day trip out of town after the school year ends. They'd like to take a train to Quebec, and stay in a downtown hotel so they can explore the city, and attend an art festival. Both have been accepted into an Art College next year, and they'd like to bring their portfolios with them to do some sketching and painting of the scenic steets of old Montreal for 2 of the days. As well, they would like to rent a booth at the art festival for the other 2 days, to display their artwork. Even if neither sells a single piece, DS says some noted artists will be in attendance and the experience will be good for them.

They have the money needed for train and hotel fare. DS is asking for $150.00 as his graduation presnt, to rent the booth at the art festival. DS claims there is truly nothing he needs or would want more than to go to this art festival. The horse is already out of the barn, so to speak, so I don't know how concerned I should be about the fact that my graduation gift would be part of an out of town weekend. He's the youngest, so there are no younger siblings he's 'setting a bad example' for.

We cannot offer to take them on the trip as DH will be out of country the weekend of the art festival and I'll be alone here caring for his parents. His sister feels I should let DS go, because he's so passionate about art and it will be a great experience for him. Both DS and his GF have grown up in Toronto, so they're accustomed to making their away about in a huge city, and have good common sense. They both have cell phones and I could give DS the phone number of my DD's boyfriend's family, who lives in Montreal, in case of emergency. So the issue is more of a moral dilemma.

I'm aware DS can always find somewhere to be alone with GF, but of course my motherly side is hesitant to grant him his graduation gift since it entails an out of town trip. DH is flexible and will uphold a united stance in front of DS, with whatever I decide. How would you handle this?
