American Leak Detection cost?

I have a 32K inground vinyl pool that is closed. The water is drained below the returns and it is still leaking. I have to add over a foot or two of water per week so the water level won't get too low!

It did not seem to be leaking this fast before the pool was closed. Although I can't be sure because it was leaking some even then.

I have been playing phone tag with American Leak Detection, but I really want to know what do they charge for something like this?

I am really worried there will be a major cost involved. What would be the worst case scenerio? I picture them having to dig up the ground to fix a leak.

It has not frozen this year as I am in GA, so I don't see how the pipes could have been damaged but I'm no expert.

What would be their cost just to check for a leak? Ballpark estimate. Thank you so much for your help.

Out here in Ca they charge about $350 for a leak detection.

thanks. my pool company, a couple years ago, had told me it cost over $400 but i don't know what company they used. did the $350 include repairs to the liner?? also about how long does it take? I was reading only 15 minutes but I don't know if that's accurate.

First of all, you need to find that leak. If it leaks out just a little, you won't have the proper level of pressure causing the system to have a lower degree diffriential which in turn causes the unit to run alot longer leaving you with higher electrical bills! It's also ruining the system because the compressor isn't cooling properly causing it to overheat! If the Return air duct (existing Temp.) is 75 degrees then it should always be blowing out on the air supply 20 degrees colder which would be 55 degrees. That is showing that the system is taking the heat out! Your going to have to request an experienced technician to find and seal the leak where ever it could be.. If you don't fix it Now, you are going to waste money & time.

Leaking windows are usually a symptom of improper flashing, as you deduced. Fix those sills right away to prevent further moisture damage to your beautiful, original windows. You can actually DIY the sills if you can use a saw and have free weekends. Sill stock is sold pre-primed at all the big box home improvement stores. Sills are time-consuming to replace, but your original windows were built with provisions for repairing and replacing any part of them. Fix the drips, but remember that your original wood windows aren't meant to be completely air- or water-tight. The wood needs a chance to breathe and exchange water vapor. You are to be commended for wanting to keep, and to keep up your original windows. Underground water may present some issues as the water is capable of moving the base material used, be it sand or small gravel though gravel would be somewhat surprising due to it's weight. The real questions that beg to be answered from what I am hearing are: What was the base material? Where did the base material go that was there? When was the high water table realized? Was anything done to redirect the water away? Was the material under the added sand or gravel a suitable base material? Clays should not have been left. They swell and shrink, creating voids. How did the pool level drop? Turning on the sump should only be done after the other sources are shut and the discharge sent to waste and at least 75 feet or more away and down hill or to a storm sewer that carries it away. If the water under wasn't removed but the water in the pool was, it could be partially your fault. I hate to say this but you might let a lawyer not affiliated with the installer know what is going on an initial consultation basis and if the installer doesn't bring proper satisfaction... We also had to call in American leak detection. They used dye drops to find the leak in our light. (This is the most common leak place for a leak.) The dye drops go towards the leak. Sometimes they use a big stethescope type thing and listen for water draining noise. Good luck finding your leak!

I had estimates about a month ago from three companies. One from the Dallas Morning News Ads charged $185 for the detection. He ended up using a foam sealant for an additional $165 for our skimmer basket. So far so good. The other two estimates were about $200 for the detection and $3,000 to 5,000. for breaking under/into the skimmer and replacing. BTW the last bids I received from the internet were reasonable through Service Magic but they were for other problems.

Cathy here in Tennessee (Knoxville) it runs around $250...But alot of pool companys have the same equipment and can also do the detection.
