Has anyone repurposed sinks?

I have been looking for an affordable apron sink for our kitchen but happened to come across this sink on Craigslist.

I have been wanting to build an outdoor station to hold beverages in the sink and where guests can make their own drinks and to have extra room to serve food instead of crowding the patio table.

So, $10 later DH is hauling home this sink. If the weather clears up this week maybe I can get out and start on it.

Have any of you made anything from these sinks and do you have any pics available?

would you build a station where the sink would be hooked up
to your main water line?

Yes! We have just such a sink (although a single-drain-board type) on the back of our garage to serve as a potting sink/plant hardening off area. It used to have water available from the nearby creek(which has quit running) but now I just use the water hose only eight feet away. It's wonderful! Several friends who saw our setup have duplicated it.

Now if I could only keep DH from parking power tools, gas cans, excess parts, etc., there, it could be truly enjoyed. How is it that most spaces I consider mine, become his?

Mine are mostly small things -- like using a glass compote to hold cotton balls in the bathroom -- or a cut glass tumbler to hold q-tips. A hinged CD holder (similar to the tissue box above but a double version) used as a spot to store extra TP. I have a dresser that is a TV stand for our exercise room and the drawers have my gift wrap rolls and ribbons. A home office armoire that was going to be my craft and gift wrap station became a china cabinet when my dad moved and I suddenly acquired another set of china and crystal and I wasn't ready to make decisions on getting rid of anything. I have an old radio cabinet that I cleaned up and planned to put a new shelf and door in the top, but the stained glass panel hasn't been made. I'm thinking about painting it and redirecting it's new life for another room now. Another one I haven't done buy we've talked about a couple of times is to put a pull out bed in a window seat to add a guest bed in our gameroom. I think the inflating mattresses are going to keep that one from happening -- take less room and are probably cheaper and more comfortable now that we no longer have a sofa with the pullout mechanism to repurpose. If a new thread is started, we should try to link this one at the top so these ideas and photos aren't lost -- st least as long as we can.

Repurposed TV Armoires, anyone?

My answer may seem very morbid, but this is my life now. My fiance and I were both widowed in our 40's, and he moved to my home from out of state ... bringing a nice wall mount TV with him. We repurposed my armoire, one my late husband and I picked out together, as a place to display his late wife's urn, and my late husband's urn. We also have two pictures, of us with our late spouses. It's in a corner of the living room, and most visitors wouldn't know what the urns are, they look decorative. But for us, it's a way to keep our loved ones close. The picture above it, to the left, was painted by one of his late wife's relatives, I really treasure it. Bad cell phone pic:

Has anyone replaced a Kohler Whitehaven with completely different sink

Our plumber said that the single basin Whitehaven will not work because of the location of the drain hole I'm calling BS on this. Hire a different plumber. I recently replaced an old Kohler 60/40 double basin sink with a single basin right side corner drain stainless steel sink. Love the single basin and corner drain. IMO, at some point in the future, you will look back on the exploding sink as a happy accident. Double basins are a relic from the before dishwashers past.

Mitchdesj- we will not be hooking up a main water line to it. In our city we would have to pay for a permit and inspection not to mention re-route our plumbing. We basically want a neat way to keep drinks on ice and so forth.

nan nc- I would love to see a pic of yours! Tell DH anything left in your area is liable to be painted pink and adorned with lace :)

probably not what you had in mind (smile). . ."The Carolers" at the Bavinger House (designed by Bruce Goff c. 1950) in Norman, OK. "They" are behind the house (second pic) across a small pond.

Hi Nan, I have a sink like yours. Please consider posting a picture of how it is mounted. Is your sink cast iron? It takes two people to move ours, so can't figure out how to put it into use. TYA, FraniQ
