Memphis King - your experiences
Comments (1)One of the very few roses that mildewed for me in FL. Grew it for 2 yrs and even with spraying it wouldn't stay clean. I tossed it. Ricky Hendrick was another mildew mess. As much as I love Whit Wells roses, a lot of them have mildew problems. It's a trial and see what happens in your area with his roses. You might want to try Robin Alanzo. Nice healthy bush that blooms all the time. Memphis King was very stingy with it's blooms and the bush grew very slow and had a weird shape. This is just what happened to me. Some folks love MK....See MoreCurtains for screen porch
Comments (12)I have shades on my screened porch. I wish I could remember what they are called, but they are roller blinds made of a nylon type material. I have a similar problem in that I am "on display" to anyone who walks down the sidewalk. These blinds really did the trick. The important factor is the color you choose. Mine are a sort of wheat color, which allows plenty of light but you cannot see through them during the day from any distance. The salesperson came to the house and held up samples as I stood in the yard to determine the "see-through" factor. The porch remains bright and sunny even with the shades down. They also keep the sun out of my eyes when reading out there in the afternoon (it faces west). I've had them for maybe 10 years and they have held up well. Darn, wish I could remember the manufacturer, but it is one of the big ones....See MoreCurved shower rods? What is your experience with these?
Comments (22)We put a one piece curved rod in the kid's BR and all the feedback is positive. We bought it at BBB. In addition we hung a shower curtain that I saw in a hotel that we stayed at. Bought it at BBB too.The top 10" or so of the curtain is a mesh material that lets in light and lets whoever is in the shower to see out. It really helps relieve that closed in feeling in the shower. At the junction of the mesh material and the shower curtain and liner are a row of snaps, so that the nylon liner can be taken off and washed. All feedback has been positive on the curtain as well....See MoreSunroom addition - what's your experience?
Comments (35)We added a 4 Seasons sunroom last summer. We took out the window in our dining room to the West and put in a french door to the sunroom. The window over my sink also looks out into the sunroom so we just took off the screen and open or close the window depending on whether or not the room is being heated/cooled. Works great as a pass thru or just to talk to family in the sunroom while I work in the kitchen. The sunroom is my happy place. It is 20 x 20 and not an inch too big. I moved my dining table out there and put in all the leaves so I can seat 8 easily. We added a couch with recliners on each end plus another recliner and a LCD 46" TV on the wall (plasma reflects more light than LCD). Another corner is my office with my Grandfather's secretary desk, my computer desk and a lateral file than looks like a beautiful wooden chest. And yes I have several big plants that just thrive out there. We installed a heat pump. It sometimes seems a little noisy but work OK. Full windows are on north and south with a sliding door on the north onto a deck. On the west we have a solid panel across the lower portion and the rest is glass up to trapazoids in the peak. We put a wooden beam down thru the center of the ceiling and covered it with oak beadboard. Beautiful! We added 2 ceiling fans that were a must. Each set of windows has one side that slides open so we can get wonderful breezes thru when we want to. We live in the country and enjoy every minute in our room. I have watched turkey right outside the window while I ate breakfast, as well as rabbits, geese, bluebirds, etc. Yes, I am in my sunroom right now!...See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
