I did it! I did it! Finished in time.

I finally got this done in time to take with me to Mom's for Mother's Day. I was beginning to think I'd never make it. There's one problem on the back but she's not a quilter and won't know.

The back story to this for those who are new - My Mom has always refused to have a quilt until she saw one similar to this (but not nearly as nice) in a quilt show. I asked her if she'd use a quilt if I made that one and she agreed. So, I took a picture and made this. In the process, I had shoulder surgery and couldn't sew for months. But, I found I could applique if I held it low in my lap and pulled the thread sideways. So, these flowers were a part of my recovery process and then once able to sew, I assembled it and now quilted it. Took awhile as life gets in the way but now it's done. Mom is only 94 and very frisky so I hope she gets a few years of enjoyment out of it.

And, I'm glad it's done as I have baby quilts on the back burner.

It's magnificent and knowing what you went through to get it done makes it even more impressive. There is so much love in this quilt that it makes me tear up just looking at it.

Well, I LOVE my recently added knockdown ceilings. Ya wanna know why? because I had POPCORN ceilings before! DH and I did all the popcorn removal ourselves. It was torture, but well worth it. We had a company come out and do the knockdown..DH really wanted smooth ceilings but yes, our ceiling was all wavy and would have to be "floated"and would cost a lot more...so we went with knockdown. We had it sprayed and troweled so it is very big "blobs" (for lack of a better word...you know what I mean, I am sure). This is a 1970's ranch we just purchased a few months ago and are totally renovating. In my last house I had popcorn...and in the house I grew up in? POPCORN. Geez, I hate that stuff! I just did the 1st coat (primer) on the knockdown and yes, it is hard...I have to apply pressure on the roller to make it in all the little grooves and whatnot. My shoulders were bunched up in knots at the end of the day. I guess I don't have it so bad cuz my house is small (2000 sq ft) and the celings are low (8 ft) but I am not looking forward to doing the paint. I keep putting it off. I actually like the look of KD on walls, but my DH hates it so we didn't add it to the house. My DH was a builder and said just what you did...knockdown (and popcorn) is used to disguise shoddy workmanship. We needed it on the ceiling, but not on the walls. Laurie, definitely not decorators. And no one around to consult with, only here on GW. My DH was a professional baker but we now both work from home on the internet. Your last post really made me laugh. The doorbell sounds similar to a bicycle bell only much louder because the cover it strikes is thicker. Maybe because we are home 24/7 and see the view all the time, no need to face all seating to the windows. The reason I decided to show you all my romans in the first place was because you just never know who is reading and may decide to tackle it themselves. If I can manage to make them look decent then anyone can. The earlier post and link to the instructions inspired me to at least give it a try.

Did I damage/kill my roses from heavy pruning at wrong time?

Depending on how hot it is right now for you they may sulk for a bit but will eventually decide to grow. Pruning often stimulates roses into putting out new growth. So unless they are grafted and you cut the grafts off, which it doesn't sound at all like you did, they should be just fine! Keep them watered and maybe a shot of fertilizer and you'll have new blooms in no time!

Linda, that is SOOO beautiful! Funny that your mom didn't want any quilts. But, my mom has some funny quirks, too (like she won't eat pizza for lunch, only for dinner).

I know your mom will love it.
